’58 Richard stopped flying in 2002 after38 years and never "dinged" an air-craft. He spends time at the familyvacation house in the north Georgiamountains and still travels a great deal.

Jackie Peters Van Handel ’60 andher husband, Jack, purchased a secondhome in Phoenix, AZ. They still owntheir 115-year-old home with 45 acresin Pleasant Prairie, WI, with Jackiespending her summers there runningan antique shop.

1961Pat Carpenter Armstrong ’61 and her husband, Bert, have four grand-daughters. They all ski, and the eldestgranddaughter is a racer on the McCallSki Team. The two five-year-olds constantly compete. Baby Paige (2) isthe darling of the family with thesweetest disposition of all. Bert andPat keep busy skiing every day all winter and golfing everyday in thespring and summer.

1966Sheldon Kaplan, Ph.D. ’66 reportsthat his son, Kevin Kaplan, MD, hasaccepted a position as OrthopaedicSurgeon and Sports MedicinePhysician with the JacksonvilleOrthopaedic Institute and will be an assisting physician with theJacksonville Jaguars football team. LeeKaplan, Sheldon's older son, is anactor in New York (leejkaplan.com)and is owner of makeitreel.net, a digital video business website assistingother actors in their careers.

1968Ted Davis ’68 was the producer, host,and a performer for a National MSSociety fundraiser at the WheelerOpera House in Aspen, CO. The well-received production was televised andwill be distributed on cable networksthroughout the country. He hopesthat the rebroadcasts will raise moremonies for Find the Cure.

1958Frederico “Fred” Pinero ’58 wisheseveryone a very prosperous new year.He still sails yachts and is very proudto be a graduate of Pine Crest.

1959Elizabeth Osborne Dickson ’59teaches high school in Panama City,FL. Last summer, Elizabeth and herhusband, Charles, took their two oldestgrandchildren to Paris, France and theNormandy area followed by a BalticCruise. Elizabeth said that travelingwith her grandchildren was “awesome.”Her husband, Charles, has been retiredfor about 10 years from the Navy Base,and Elizabeth plans to retire soon.Elizabeth and her husband have a new granddaughter, Katie, born inConnecticut last August.

1960Richard Malcolm ’60 lives inHarbour Island, Bahamas. His fivechildren and six grandchildren livethroughout the Bahamas and the easternUnited States. Richard continues towork albeit, at a lesser pace. He isinvolved in real estate, visitor rentalaccommodations (cottages), and variouscommunity activities for which he was awarded (Member of The BritishEmpire) by the Queen in 1999. Healso serves as Justice of the Peace.

1964Paul Rudd ’64 lives in Dallas, TX. He graduated from Case Institute of Technology in 1968. Paul is the General Manager of HensleyIndustries. He has four daughters andfive grandchildren. He plans to retireand live in New Hampshire andFlorida.

She plans to be a theaterstage manager. Hunter (20) is a soph-omore at UC Santa Barbara, majoringin Film. He has won a number ofawards for his writing.

Judith and her husband, Saul, are"recovering" journalists from the LATimes. Saul retired about two yearsago and has been teaching journalismat nearby Moorpark College. Judithleft the newspaper business 15 yearsago for family practice medicine.Judith’s medical career is on hold whileshe dabbles in local politics, now

1969Bob Jones ’69 remains passionateabout his work as an addiction admin-istrator and project developmentconsultant. He works in Orlando, FLwith a large treatment provider toexpand medication-assisted treatmentprotocols around the country and continues his work with troubled kids.Bob looks forward to seeing everyonein April at the reunion.

serving her third term as president of the Chatsworth NeighborhoodCouncil, an arm of the Los AngelesCity Council. She is, in effect, the"mayor" of Chatsworth, which is inthe farthest northwest portion of theSan Fernando Valley.

In the summer of 1997, when Judithwas doing a rotation in the emergencyroom of Adirondack Medical Center,in Lake Placid, NY, she got into a con-versation with an older gentleman whotold her he was visiting from Florida.It was Mr. William Grimditch, whosename she obviously knew but had toconfirm that it was the Pine CrestGrimditch family.

Rev. Jeremy Stopford ’71 recentlywas called to become the new pastor atthe First Baptist Church of nearbyEarlville, NY. He and his wife will bemoving there in the late spring.Jeremy said, “Thanks for your emails.”Email Jeremy at:[email protected].

Blair Waters Willis ’71 is a registerednurse and married to an Air Forcephysician. She has two sons, Hank, adentist, and Sam, an aspiring screenwriter. Blair and her family lived inGermany for six years, and Blairwrites, “Thank goodness I took fouryears of German at Pine Crest.” Blairand her husband of 34 years live in atiny town in Northern Idaho wherethey work together in the hospitalemergency room. Their two grand-children live nearby. Blair and herhusband also kayak, hike, scuba, andtravel. Blair’s most notable changesince high school is that she became aChristian.

1973Jeff Knight ’73 continues to serve asFlorida Chapter Co-Chair, for theRepublican National Lawyers Association,and during 2008, he was one of theleaders of the McCain-Palin legal teamin Florida. Jeff ’s daughter, Gabrielle,will be attending FSU in the fall of2009. His son is in the eighth grade inMiami, FL. Both kids won medals inkarate tournaments in 2008. The kids,Jeff, and his wife, Vivien, all have blackbelts in karate.

Gail Nutter Reid ’73 lives inBaltimore, MD, with her husband,Michael, and two sons, Stuart (15) andWilliam (11). Gail has been a clinicalsocial worker for 29 years. She coordi-nates advocacy services for victims ofsexual assault and domestic violence inBaltimore City and Baltimore County.She is an adjunct faculty member atthe University of Maryland, School ofSocial Work, where she teaches in theMaster Social Work program.

George M. Jones ’74 graduated fromthe University of Hawaii in 1980. Hedelivered yachts throughout the PacificOcean, helped build and manage aregional FM radio station in theColorado Rocky Mountains and nowpractices law in Long Beach, CA. In1994, George married MarleneAmaral of Los Angeles, CA. Theyhave a 12-year-old daughter who is thejoy of their lives.

Greg Willenborg ’77 was selected byhis congresswoman, Loretta Sanchez, tobe a member of the Electoral College inCalifornia. On Dec. 15, 2008, he casthis ballot in Sacramento, CA, for BarakObama for President of the UnitedStates. During this experience, Gregsaid, “I thought a lot about AmseyBarber and what he instilled in his stu-dents about this country’s amazing his-tory. At Pine Crest, we studied aboutthe democratic process and the electoralcollege,” he said. “In the assembly dome,there is only one portrait, and it is ofAbe Lincoln. It was incredible to reflectupon this and realize that Abe Lincoln,a President from Illinois, brought our country together so many years ago. And now, 145 years later, I was sitting there, as a presidential elector, voting for Barak Obama, an African-American from Illinois, to be the 44thPresident of the United States.”

1976Deneb LaBrosse ’76 and MikeCallery ’77 made it through Katrinaand Gustav without any damage andstill continue to live in Kenner, LA,just west of New Orleans. Deneb isV.P. of Customer Service with CoFaceCollections. Mike has completed 20 years with Louisiana OrganProcurement Agency (LOPA), anagency that works to recover organs fortransplant patients. Deneb and Mikeare enjoying the tranquility of thehome they have been renovating thepast two years. As an elector, Greg was required to goto his state capitol in Sacramento, CAon Dec. 15. Greg was permitted tobring five guests. Two of his closestfriends, actress Rita Moreno and herhusband, Lenny, were two of Greg’s

Daniel Yates ’77 earned an MS inElectrical Engineering from MIT in1985. He took two years off in themiddle of college to pursue an interestin flying, which led to a career in aviation. Dan was hired by Delta in1986 and has been with them eversince. He is a captain and instructorpilot on the Boeing 767ER flying fromJFK in New York to many destinationsin Europe. Dan goes to Moscow on aregular basis and has been trying tolearn Russian. Dan lives in Duxbury,MA, with his wife Debby and two children, Stephen (16) and Becky (13).

1978Michael A. Cohen ’78 has been aCPA since 1984 and has earned theCFE Designation from the Associationof Certified Fraud Examiners.Michael's practice consists of forensicand tax accounting, assisting individu-als, businesses, and attorneys in theareas of litigation support, expert wit-ness testimony, fraud examinations,and economic damage calculations.He also serves on the Duke University

Larry Berg ’80 lives in New Jersey,just outside of Philadelphia. He hasbeen married 21 years and has twodaughters (13 and 15). Larry has beenpracticing law with the same firm for19 years.

Mary Lehtinen Brauer ’80 and herhusband, Bob, have been married for18 years. They live in Sudbury, MAand have 11-year-old fraternal twinboys. Having twins took them completely by surprise, and their liveshave been a wild and fun ride since thetwins’ birth. Mary documented theirantics when they were toddlers andended up writing a humorous columnfor the local paper called "Life withTwins.” Since then, she has publishedarticles in parenting books and magazines. Mary is also a career man-agement consultant and instructionaldesigner. She was in the corporateworld prior to the boys' birth and nowworks on a contract basis from home.

This past summer the family journeyedto South Africa. It was an amazingadventure; they were humbled by therugged beauty of the country, thewildlife and how we take our lifestylefor granted. The trip impacted Maryand her family, and they are nowinvolved in fundraising for malaria netsto be distributed to families in need.

Richard Nathan ’80 lives in Rochester,NY with his wife, Lauren, and two girls, Caroline (18) and Jane (16). Janeis a sophomore in high school. Laurenteaches nutrition at two local colleges.Richard is one of four partners in a local investment advisory firm where heserves as director of investment researchand portfolio manager.

Richard has a small fruit tree orchardand an organic vegetable garden wherehe enjoys working during the summer.His daughter, Jane, is into ballroomdancing so he and his wife often travelto different cities for her competitions.

Neal Caidin ’80 provides oversight ofDuke's Learning Management System(Blackboard) and support for CIT tech-nical activities. Neal worked as an ITproject manager at Nortel Networksbefore coming to CIT. Before that, hedeveloped software for a medical sys-tems start-up company. He holds abachelor's degree in mathematics fromthe University of Florida and is on theeducation committee of the NorthCarolina Project Management Institute.

Mark Glazer ’80 is a practicing radiologist in Milwaukee, WI. He ismarried to Barbara and has three boys(11, 9, and 8). Mark still plays tennisand golf when the weather allows. Healso enjoys good ski conditions andwinter sports.

Gizel has been living in Sydney,Australia for 23 years. After many yearsof being a chef and manager of a localrestaurant, she now runs her own business - a little shabby chic, rustic,retro, antique furniture shop nearManly, Australia, a well-known seasidetourist town. Gizel goes to auctions to hunt down pieces she can restore for resale.

Lorifeels like she really never left Pine Crest.Her son, Kyle ’05, was a "lifer" and is asenior at Harvard. He will be attendingOxford University in England next yearas a Marshall Scholar. As a hobby, Kyleconstructs crossword puzzles for the New York Times and for the in-housemagazine of Spirit Airlines. Check outone of his puzzles next time you flySpirit. Lori’s daughter, Megan ’09, isalso a “lifer” and has been acceptedearly to Northwestern University. Lorikeeps busy playing a lot of tennis andgolf. Her parents live in the same housein Bay Colony where the class of ’80had so many parties.

Bob Wittman ’80 and his familyrecently moved to London, Englandfor a long-term assignment withRaytheon to replace the UnitedKingdom's border entry system. Bob’sdaughter, Zlata, is in 10th grade at theACS International School and his son,Andy, is a freshman at FSU's Londoncampus. Bob still has his house inWinter Garden, FL where he and hisfamily lived for the past 16 years.

Laurie Nigro ’81 sends greetings fromDurham, NC, her home since 2004.For three years she worked for SigmaXi, The Scientific Research Society. In 2008 she joined ContinuumConsulting Services, innovators in lead-ership, community and organizationaldevelopment. Laurie's consulting spe-cialties are sustainable culture change,multicultural inclusion/engagement,and public understanding of science.She's also active with Initiatives ofChange, a global network of peoplededicated to building trust acrossdivides of race, faith, and class. LastDecember, Laurie hosted a Durhamcommunity dialogue on healthcarereform for the Presidential TransitionHealth Policy Team. She welcomescontact and visits from PC alumnaeand friends. Jill and her familyhave accumulated many creatures theycall pets including birds, cats, rats,mice, and a boa constrictor.

Kate Sullivan Hare ’83 was sorry tomiss everyone at the 25th reunion lastApril but had a good excuse: She deliv-ered her son, Jack Ryan Hare, a fewdays later on April 8, 2008. Kate alsohas two daughters, Sophie (4) andElizabeth (2). She and her husband,Neil, live in Washington, D.C. Katestarted her own public policy firm,Health Policy Insight & Strategy, inSeptember 2008. She specializes inworking with employers who are com-mitted to major reform of the U.S.health care system and helping them

1982Roxanne Beckford Hoge ’82 has fourchildren. Her son, Cameron (11),plays basketball. Lila (8) enjoys art,and April and Georgia (3) are in pre-school. Roxanne and her husband,Bob, decided to open One HotMama’s in Studio City, CA, a nursing,maternity, and accessory store, rightbefore Christmas. California alums can visit Roxanne in Studio City –everyone else can visit online. In themidst of all this organized chaos,Roxanne still works as an actress whenshe gets a minute. Roxanne just did anepisode of Leverage and HannahMontana, and she will be on anupcoming Criminal Minds as a medical examiner.

Jacqueline “Jack” Perez ’82 lives inChapel Hill, NC where she owns a boutique marketing and public relations strategy firm, Summit StrategyPartners. She has a son, Aidan (6).When not co-parenting or running herbusiness, she can be found training intae kwon do. Jack is thrilled to see thatmany of her classmates have foundFacebook and is enjoying keeping upwith them. If anyone heads towardsChapel Hill, let her know. She’d love tomeet for lunch or a drink.

Sheryl was in Genevaon business, and Anthony is temporarilyliving in Milan. Jennifer said, “We allconnected with each other and thoughtit would be fun to get together inNorthern Italy. Derrick Cole ’84 graduated MagnaCum Laude with a degree in HighSchool Math Education from WesternCarolina University in May of 1996and married his wife, Amy, the samemonth. After teaching in Florida for awhile, the mountains of NorthCarolina were calling. Derrick lookedfor a job there, but did not find whathe wanted, so he and his wife bought asmall motel in Maggie Valley, NC inJune of 1997. They renamed itApplecover Inn and renovated it quiteextensively. Their daughter, Maureen,was born in 1998 and son, Connor,came a couple years later in 2001.

Derrick and his family currently spendtime between Maggie Valley and PuntaGorda, FL.

The motel business is only about sevenmonths, April to the end of October.Derrick and his wife were ready to selland move on to something else in2006, but wound up buying anotherproperty in Maggie Valley, Three PinesLodging. They renovated this into amotel/apartment complex. Now theyare running two motels in MaggieValley! It’s a fun and insight-ful look into the mind of a teenage girlas she goes on a journey inside her ownmind – based somewhat on Ethan’sexperience as a junior high school chorus teacher for four years and thevariety of “characters” that passedthrough his class. The music features avariety of styles including Motown,rock, pop ballads, jazzy swing, and soul-ful R&B. It was originally presented ata local arts festival in Brooklyn andmost recently at the Kumble Theater ofLong Island University as part ofCommunity Works NYC educationaltheater productions for young audiences.

Jimmy is the leadatmospheric computer modeler for theGeorgia Environmental ProtectionDivision. In his free time, he runs thelargest triathlon club in Atlanta(AtlantaTriClub.com) and is currentlytraining for his sixth full Ironman.

Stephen Copen ’86 and his wife hadtheir second son in June 2008; theirfirst son is almost three. He practicesnephrology and internal medicine inLos Angeles, CA. Stephen has thebest memories of his parents who senthim to Pine Crest and the communi-ty in which he grew up at Pine Crestand in Fort Lauderdale. This past summer the family traveledto Belgium (Flo’s home), France andItaly. They had a wonderful time inParis and then David and Flo enjoyeda romantic excursion to Rome whilethe children spent time with theircousins in Belgium.

Amy is a first-grade andkindergarten teacher from Richmond,VA. After completing an InternalMedicine Internship at Georgetown,Ryan and Amy moved to Denver in July for a three-year residency in Dermatology at the University of Colorado.
