Spreading the love of Ohio State across Buckeye Nation

Alumni Societies
Ohio State alumni club and society members make a difference every day in their communities, organizations, colleges, industries, and at the university. Whether raising money to support current students, giving back through local service projects, or spreading the love of Buckeye Nation beyond the campus borders, their impact is felt.

Why should someone get involved with an alumni society? The networking opportunities are endless whether you are straight out of school, mid-career, relocating or retiring. This is such a valuable opportunity to grow personally and professionally. I am personally connected to many alumni via LinkedIn and when you hear we are everywhere, Buckeyes are everywhere!
What advice would you give to a new graduate moving to your area?I would encourage a graduate to learn about all the Ohio State alumni association clubs and societies prior to graduation. Be sure to visit the Lhota Office of Alumni Career Management, to learn all about the opportunities they make available as well.
What is your favorite activity sponsored by your society? My favorite activity to date is the Black Alumni Speed Networking Event! Students gain valuable professional contacts, possible internships, resume reviews and alumni are afforded the opportunity to network with each other. It is a fulfilling and rewarding experience and continues to show the willingness of our alumni in giving back.
Why should someone get involved with their local club? To stay connected to The Ohio State University. I don’t think staying connected is something we actively think about, especially when we first graduate, but after several years in Austin when I finally found the club, it was like coming home. There’s nothing like connecting with other alums who share your passion for all things Buckeye.
What advice do you have for a new graduate moving to your area? Reach out to the club or just come out to an event. We try to host a diverse array of events such as community service, networking, and game day parties. You’re sure to meet someone in the field you work in or someone with similar interests as you.
What is your favorite activity sponsored by your club? One of our reoccurring community service events is dear to my heart. We coordinate with Austin Boxer Rescue (ABR) to walk homeless, rescue dogs. We all wear our scarlet shirts and bring matching bandanas for the dogs. It’s an event everyone can participate in and many parents bring their children. The staff at the vet clinic where the dogs are housed and volunteers who run ABR all sing Ohio State’s praise because of the impression we’ve made.

The Bill Gue Scholarship from the Ohio State Alumni Club of Atlanta turned a lifetime Buckeye’s dream into a reality. I am forever grateful for the financial contributions and extracurricular support provided by the Atlanta Buckeyes. The monetary sponsorship allowed me to focus on my academics while fully indulging in the culture of Ohio State. Outside the classroom, the Alumni Club of Atlanta arranged networking events and social activities helping me develop the tools necessary to become a productive member of the Alumni Association post graduation. Thank you to all the Buckeyes before me whose contributions have made Ohio State the incredible institution it is today!”

By awarding me the Mathematical and Physical Sciences Alumni Society scholarship, you have lightened my financial burden which allows me to focus more on the most important aspect of school, learning. As a kid from a family of eight, I am responsible for funding my education, and I am thankful for the support of this financial responsibility. Your generosity has inspired me to help others and give back to the Ohio State community. I hope one day I will be able to help others achieve their goals just as you have helped me.
Jonathan Kubesch, JuniorHamilton, OHMathematical and Physical Sciences Scholar
Thank
You!
Thank you so much for allowing me to spend another year here at the best university on this planet…without this scholarship I would not be able to continue my education here. I could not imagine not being part of the African American Voices Gospel Choir, being a Buckeye Leadership Fellow, being a Teaching Assistant and being a reporter for The Lantern. Thank you for allowing me to continue my education.

Buckeye Nurses! The Nursing Alumni Society connects, supports and celebrates alumni. The Society provides programming that fosters their mission to create meaningful student and alumni interactions.
This year the Society concentrated on boosting student and young alumni involvement. One of the programs they developed to do just that, was the College of Nursing Alumni Society Mentorship Program. The purpose is to provide an opportunity for interaction between students or young alumni with an alumni mentor. They also participate annually in the Dinner for 12 Buckeyes program (hosted by the Student-Alumni Council) and professionalism week each February – a week-long program they co-host with the College of Nursing’s Office of Student Affairs, to prepare graduating nursing students for their upcoming job searches.
One of their most meaningful programs, the annual wine tasting and silent auction, promotes scholarship and student retention at the college. For ten years, this program has been a staple of the college’s scholarship fundraising efforts, contributing thousands of dollars each year to their scholarship fund. In August 2016, over $18,000 was raised for scholarships at the College of Nursing after 160 alumni, donors and local nurses attended the annual wine tasting fundraiser. Thanks to the generosity of alumni and friends, the Nursing Alumni Society Board exceeded its goal to raise over 1 million dollars for student scholarships by 2014.
All graduates of the College of Nursing are basic members of the Nursing Alumni Society, with increased benefits for those who support Ohio State financially.

Originally a group of Ohio State fans getting together to watch Saturday football, the club has grown in both size and involvement with over 3,500 Buckeyes in the Tampa Bay community and Buckeye Nation.
They are ambassadors for the University, networking throughout the community to raise university awareness, recruit future Buckeyes, and provide financial support to students and the University while creating lifelong friendships.
Over this past year they held a number of exciting events including hosting an Admitted Student Dinner this spring, participating in service projects throughout the year, hosting current Ohio State students in Tampa supporting Buck-I-Serv, supporting our Buckeyes during the Big Ten/Big East Challenge and supporting the Alumni Scholarship Program. Of course, during football season on Saturday afternoons, you can hear “O – H – I – O” coming from both sides of Tampa Bay as local alumni and fans gathered at game watch locations. Their members even coordinated a beautifully synchronized Script Ohio in the parking lot of one of these locations.
