Many of you reading this probablydon’t believe in God. You may thinkthere is ‘something out there’ - but in allprobability you wouldn’t be prepared tocommit yourself to a belief in thepersonal God of the Bible - the onedescribed as the God who made theworld and everything in it.
He created all the nations throughoutthe whole earth, decided beforehandwhen they should rise and fall, and de-termined their boundaries. His purposewas for the nations to seek after himand perhaps feel their way toward himand find him - though he is not far fromany one of us. The God who is aperson - with personality - and whotakes a real living interest in every oneof us.
For many people that’s too specific, perhaps too frightening or possibly too
simple. But the more I look at the worldaround me, the more I see personalityin almost everything. Every day ouradopted cat seems to demonstratehe’s not just a blob of fur but a creaturewith real personality. He ‘speaks’ withhis miaow, with his eyes and with his in-sistence that he be scratched under thechin.
Even the birds he stalks in the gardenreveal individual characteristics.Watching the cat being scolded by aprotective mother blackbird - and herunning for the cover of the window sillfrom her rebuke - reminds me that eventhe smallest of creatures appear to beendowed with individuality and person-ality.
Of course I don’t want to give everyworm or grub a name but the more Ilook at the world the more I can see the
mark of a person at work in creating it.
That is exactly how Paul described Godand his world to a highly educatedAthenian audience in the passage fromthe book of Acts loosely quoted above- a real personal God who made us, areal personal God who continues torelate to us on a personal level everyday.
Maybe you don’t have a cat to watch ora garden with scolding birds - but thereis a God who is not far from you; hispurpose and desire is that you wouldreach out to him, seek for him and findhim. He even sent his Son, Jesus, intothis world to help you in that search - areal living personality who will introduceyou to the real and living God.

PresentationTish Richford, team manager from theCriminal Justice Services gave a veryinformative talk about the CommunityPayback scheme which we have inMoray. She went on to explain the NewPayback Orders the new name sinceFebruary 2011 replaces previousprobation orders and communityservice orders. Instead of communityservice it is now referred to asCommunity Payback Orders andUnpaid Work orders. There are twolevels of order. Level one is 20 to 100hours (three months) which are lessserious offences Level two is 101 to300 hours (six Months) for people whohave committed serious assaults, fraud, etc. Offenders must start workwithin 7 days of the order beingimposed. Most are signed up to doingat least two days of work. Offenders aresupervised seven days a week. Theteam is based in Elgin with a workshopin Grampian Road where offendersmake for example plant containers, garden picnic tables and benches. Theexamples of work in Moray were shownto members by means of photographs. The projects they have undertaken areenvironmental projects and communityprojects. The benefit to the communityis that work is being done by offendersthat may never be done otherwise. Itensures that the offender gives directrepatriation to the community that theylive in. This work is used as an alterna-tive to custody and is not a soft option.Research has shown that offenders areless likely to offend again in the future.Plaques are erected to say thatprojects have been done by offenders. The Senior task Supervisor can becontacted on 01343 557200. If offenderdoes not participate order is returned to
the court. Offenders don’t go into thecommunity that they offended in. Anumber of projects were spoken aboutthat could be done by offenders in theKeith area. I was very
p l e a s e d
recently to take
part in the
Moray Great Bike Ride,
which saw cyclists of all
abilities from across the
region get on their bikes
for charity. I surprised
myself by feeling up for the
whole course and even in a
not too bad time!
A big thank you to the
organisers but also
especially to the
participants. This year’s
event raised funds for the
North East Sensory
Service, which provides
support for people across
Moray and the North East
with visual or hearing
impairment.
A very worthwhile cause
and and very worthwhile
day out cycling through
Moray’s fantastic scenery
One of the
challenges of
politics is
trying to force
yourself to take some time
out and do something
different. Being a bit of a
foody, I have made some
time for the garden and a
bit of an effort at ‘grow
your own’ in terms
of vegetables.
I cannot profess to being
any kind of expert
gardener but it provides
some relaxation and,
hopefully, some tasty
summer salads when I see
how the small back garden
crop has fared!

Owned by husband and wife team, Angus and Maggie Brown, The Steading has developed the training aspects of Craighurst’s and trains budding young chefs from around the area in everything from the basics of making good stocks, soups, handmade breads and baking for the coffee shop right up to fine dining at their Bistro evenings. Training also includes front of house and coffee making skills for budding baristas.
Angus (the Baker) and Maggie (the Chef) believe in sourcing ethical ingredients and use Fairtrade, free-range and local
products wherever possible, many sourced from other small producers across the North East of Scotland. The coffee shop serves their own delicious home baking and a selection of freshly made light meals.
Angus and Maggie previously ran the Coffee Shop & Bistro at Greenfields, Lhanbryde, near Elgin and many of their old customers have sought them out at the new premises in Keith. They sell Steading produce at the coffee shop and at local Farmer’s Markets and have been delighted to reintroduce the Bistro Evenings on Fridays and Saturdays.

Dreamingof...
Popular for some years now, particularly for those whose time is very limited, a City Break is an excellent way of getting away for a few days and nights, and seeing some interesting and different culture. Perhaps the most common City from this part of the world has been Amsterdam because it is accessible in one flight from Aberdeen, but there are many European cities which now see large numbers of short- term visitors. The advantage of a City break is that you can come and go on any days of the week that you select, normally using scheduled aircraft to spend 3 or 4 nights in a city, with a complete selection of differing hotels. Imagine flying to Barcelona, direct from Edinburgh, for 3 nights, staying in a smart city hotel full of character which only offers Bed and Breakfast because there are so many restaurants that you would want to try for lunch and dinner in the evening. Because time is limited you don't wait hours for transfer coaches, but are transported to your hotel by taxi or car. Cities like Barcelona are excellent for walking about, seeing the marinas, waterfront, Las Ramblas shopping street and the Food market. Though no direct flights exist from Scotland, Vienna is another popular destination, with all its imperial splendour, Art Nouveau, waltzes and coffee houses. A grand ring of 19th century palaces surrounds the mediaeval city, with its narrow streets, hospitable inns, cafes and shops. Two sets of customers have recently joined a break to Vienna with a trip to Budapest, using the train to travel from one to the other. Both cities boast much of the 19th century grandeur of the Hapsburg Empire. It's Bela Bartok and Liszt Museums in Budapest as it is the Strauss family in Vienna. There are many suitable Italian cities to visit for a short time, and Florence is one of the finest settings of them all. On the banks of the River Arno, Florence is the birthplace of the Renaissance and the city of Michelangelo, Da Vinci, Giotto, Dante and their patrons the Medici family. When you are there a visit to the Uffizi Gallery and Museum is a must! There are direct flights now from Edinburgh to Krakow, the cultural capital of Poland. Krakow is rich in museums, art galleries, concert halls and churches; as a university city it comes alive at night in cellar bars, restaurants and jazz clubs. Like Prague this city largely escaped destruction during the World War II. In Prague only one building was hit during that war, and it is now known as the American Church in honour of its bombers!

WDCS (the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society) is calling on members of the public to become part time whale and dolphin spotters in order to help the conservation charity build up a better understand-ing of these animals in local waters.
WDCS’s Shorewatch programme (supported by Scottish Natural Heritage) has been rolled out across Scotland in recent months and is already proving to be very popular. Shorewatch relies on community volunteers to monitor the presence of whales, dolphins and porpoises around Scotland’s coastline in order to raise awareness and capture vital data crucial to the long term future of these amazing animals.
The objective of Shorewatch is for community members to become stewards of whales, dolphins and the marine habitat which is their home, and becoming a Shorewatcher is pretty simple.
WDCS is running a number of training days during which volunteers will receive training on how and when to watch whales and dolphins, how to use the equipment provided, how to identify specific species, what to do if you come across a stranded animal, and where the best spots are to see amazing creatures. This all helps to ensure that the data collected is done so in the same way each time.
Once trained, volunteers can go out when they feel like it, armed with scientific binoculars, and carry out regular 10-minute watches at specific sites to help learn more about how these animals use our coastline, information which will help
in the protection of these animals for future generations. So, if you like to get out and about and are keen to see more of your local wildlife then Shorewatch is for you.
The data collected helps to better understand the movements of coastal species and to inform decision makers. It is vital to know which areas might be key habitats for whales and dolphins and monitor how they use these areas over time. Such data will also be valuable towards informing planning decisions on future developments.
WDCS Head of Scottish Policy, Sarah Dolman, commented on the need for the Shorewatch Programme saying, “It is vital to understand which areas are key for these creatures. We basically need to have eyes on the sea around the entire Scottish
coastline; and this is why community participation is so important to the long term management of marine species andtheir homes.”
So, If you fancy become an ambassador of the sea, contact WDCS Conservation Officer, Alison Lomax, on 01343 820 339 or email [email protected]

“ ”“Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an
hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”
One day we will all have to meet The Lord Jesus Christ. We will meet Him either as our Saviour or as our Judge! Those who are not with Him here on earth He will be against them in eternity and they will be judged accordingly. Will He say unto us “I know you not”? or “Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord”?
What have we done (and what are we doing) with Jesus who is called Christ? Have we trusted Him with our soul’s salvation having realized and understood that He died for us, for our sins? or will we not have this man Jesus Christ to rule over us? Will we continue to live stubbornly and deliberately for self for sin and for satan? When we meet Him, will we be ready?
What think we of Christ, whose Son is He? God would have none of us to perish in our sins - that’s why He sent His Beloved Son, showing His love for us that through Him(The Lord Jesus) and His Sacrice on the Cross of Calvary that we might live;
‘...Jesus paid it all, all to Him we owe,
sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow! ‘
Do we know Him?Don’t ask ourselves do we know about Him, but do we KNOW HIM! Are we a lover of pleasures or a lover of God? Are we dead in trespasses and in sins or washed in the Blood of God’s Lamb the Lord Jesus Christ?
Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgement is come , and worship Him that made heaven and earth: be ye ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of Man cometh. He loves us, He died for us, that He might bring us to God; let us enter into and believe the truth that God so loved us that He gave His only begotten Son, that if we believe in Him we should not perish in our sins but have everlasting life, for our sins have separated us from God.
We need to be born again! Do we know Him? Do we trust Him and Him alone for eternity. He knows them that are His and let everyone that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity!
