2. Brazil - Pele the most famous Brazilian footballer links to the mahogany used in ARA’s main fan blades which was from a shipment from Brazil that was confiscated by UK Customs and auctioned off.

3. 1956 - The first test in the ARA TWT coincided with the first ever Eurovision Song Contest and the release of Elvis Presleys first single, Heartbreak Hotel.

4. ARA’s main entrance is at the rear of the site due to a change of plan for the access road by Bedford Borough Council, after ARA construction was well under way. The Cau Cau River bridge in Chile had major components installed backwards, discovered a few days before it’s official opening. The Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery in Glasgow is rumoured to be built backwards but it is an urban myth as it was deliberately designed to face the park and not the main road.

5. The first computer at ARA had it’s origins in the computers designed and used at Bletchley Park by Alan Turing and the rest of the codebreakers during WW2. Following the tradition now common with computers ARA needed to upgrade it within 12 months of installing it.
