K-12 Sports

As part of Mandurah Baptist College’s broad education offering, the College encourages students to participate in our extensive sports program.

Every year, our students compete in Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country at the College’s Sports Carnival, with the top performing students selected to represent MBC at Inter School events. Taking part in sport allows students to develop their strengths, build confidence and encourages them to achieve their personal best.

MBC Lakers

MBC Lakers Basketball Club is strongly affiliated with the College. The Club has gone from strength to strength with well over 200 members who access the College facilities and regularly train at the Sport Centre. The Club is founded on the concepts of teamwork and sportsmanship, encourages team spirit and the social and sporting development of their players through playing basketball. Many of the club members successfully go on to be part of the Western Australian Basketball League (WABL).

MBC Waves

Over the last 15 years, volleyball players from Mandurah Baptist College have been outstanding representatives of the College. Students are encouraged to begin their volleyball journey in Primary School and are given the opportunity to learn technique and game play structure in after school sessions. As they progress, selection of Volleyball as a subject is available in Years 8 to 10.

Invitations to training, Inter School carnivals and competing at Nationals in December (at either Melbourne 2008-2018 or Gold Coast 2019-onwards) are the ultimate experiences for our athletes. Former students have gone on to win medals, captain and represent state teams, play for Australia at international competitions, and receive scholarships to NCAA College programs in the US.

The overall goal of the program is to foster a love of the game, instil perseverance at training and self-drive for improvement as individuals and as a cohesive team unit.

Soccer

Soccer is a popular sport at MBC across both Primary and Senior School. Plans are in place for the development of a new and improved soccer pitch to be installed at the College. Students have the opportunity to participate in teams that fall under the Peel Junior Soccer Association and to represent the College in numerous Inter School competitions. The sport also features prominently in our annual LunchFest, where students compete against staff in a fun match.

Running Club

The Running Club is held each Wednesday morning from 8.10am to 8.25am for Primary School students. The aim of the club is for students to run for fun and to achieve distance targets with certificates awarded for every 10km covered. During athletics season, runners are coached in sprint techniques and starts, whereas during cross country season, runners work on improving their endurance and breathing techniques.

Outdoor Education

Outdoor Education in the Senior Upper School is an extension of the Physical Education offering in Lower School. The Mandurah region offers so much in terms of recreation whether it’s surfing at the sandy beaches of Secret Harbour or Singleton, snorkelling at Blue Bay or Hunchies, mountain biking around Marlee Reserve or paddling on the estuary, our students thrive in the outdoors.

Year 11 and 12 students get to experience expedition planning opportunities such as hiking, abseiling, caving, paddling and surfing in the South West of WA, snorkelling at Rottnest, sailing at various locations around the WA coastline and mountain biking in Dwellingup.
