    STAR TV WONTHE BROADCASTINGRIGHTS OF INDIAN CRICKET TEAMINA 3851 CRORE RUPEES BID

    Star TV on 2 April 2012 won

    the rights to broadcast Indian

    cricket for next six years in a bidto the tune of 3851 crore rupees.

    Rupert Murdoch owned Star TV

    won th e bid defeating Sony which

    had offered 150 crore rup ees less

    than the w inning bid.

    The r ights include TV,

    Internet and Mobile broadcasting.

    The agreement wi l l remain

    effective for a period of six years

    starting from from July 2012 to

    March 2018.

    The agreement gives Star TV

    righ ts to cover a l l home

    in ternat ional matches and

    dom estic tournam ents involving

    Indian Cricket team. The right will

    not be applicable for the Indian

    Prem ier League (IPL). Star TV will

    pay around 40 crore rupees for

    each international match, w hich is

    8 crore more than w hat w as being

    paid by previous broadcaster

    Nimbus. The b id fo r the

    broadcast ing r igh ts was

    necessi tated as the BCCI had

    ab ru p t ly t e rmin a t ed i t s

    b roadcast ing agreement wi th

    Nimbus in D ecember 2011, three

    years before it was du e to expires,

    over the issues related to p ayment.

    career. Prior to this the top seed ed

    Djokovic had defeated Nadal inseven title face-offs.

    Simon and Tomas Berdych

    respectively in the semi finals of

    the tournam ent.

    Croatias Ivan Ljubicic

    announced retirement from tennis

    on 15 Apr il 2012 after he su ffered

    career high ATP ranking was

    number 3. He won his first ATP

    singles title a t Lyon in 2001.

    Imabeppu of Japan.

    With regard to Olympic

    qualification, the significant loss

    was that of the mixed d oubles pair

    of Jwala Gutta and V Diju. They

    lost to Koreas Sa Rang Kim and

    Hye In Choi. Jwala and Diju are

    currently ranked No.16 in the

    world and will have to maintain

    or improve their ranking in order

    to make the cut for the London

    Games.

    Open GP she w on her first title of

    2012. The world number f ive

    Indian defeated third ranking

    Saina began with a healthy

    11-3 lead in the first game. Saina

    Saina caught up with Shixian at

    He is the first Indian boxer

    third time in succession. In the

    Asian Olymp ic qualifier at Astana

    in Kazakhstan, Vijender reached

    the semifinals after defeat ing

    Chuluntumur Tumurkhuyag of

    Mongolia in the quarterfinals.

    Vijender Singh is also the first
