HIGH STANDINGS BY LORI CATHEY Behind a solid defensive effort and a strong offensive line the Gibson County Junior High football team defeated South Fulton 40 to 8. South Fulton scored the first touchdown of the game and converted the two-point conversion to take an 8-0 lead. Gibson County Jr. Pioneers answered right back with a long run by running back Ozzy Rico for a touchdown. GCJH Quarterback Matthew Watson ran the ball in for the two-point conversion to tie the game 8 all. In the second quarter the Jr. Pioneers took a 16 to 8 lead off a 74-yard run by Cayden Wylie for a touchdown and Rico converted the two-point conversion. Jr. Pioneer’s defense linemen Ethen Carrell and Noah Stafford combined on a sack for a safety to put the Jr. Pioneers up 18-8 at halftime. The Jr. Pioneers opened the third quarter with a run by Colin Warren for a touchdown and Watson converted the two-point conversion to make it 26 to 8. In the final quarter the Jr. Pioneers added two more touchdowns. One by Rico on a run and Dontae Holder returned a 42-yard punt. Camron McMackin caught a 3-yard pass and Watson, with a keeper, converted the two-point conversions to give the Jr. Pioneers a 40-8 victory. The Jr. Pioneers had a total of 352 yards, 349 were rushing and 3 were passing. Jr. Pioneers had eight first downs. The Jr. Pioneer Player of the Week is Colin Warren. Warren is an eighth grade slot back and linebacker. He rushed for 121 yards, averaging 30.2 yards per carry with 4 carries with a touchdown. He also had six tackles. The Jr. Pioneers offense was lead by Caden Wiley with 3 carries for 145-yards and a touchdown, Ozzy Rico had 8 carries for 67- yards with two touchdowns and a two-point conversion and quarterback Matthew Watson completed 1 of 3 passes for 3 yards and had 6 carries for 16-yards with 2 two-point conversion. Camron McMackin had a 3-yard reception for a two- point conversion. Dontae Holder returned a 42-yards punt for a touchdown. The Jr. Pioneers next game will be September 11 th at 6:30 p.m. away against West Carroll. Jr. Pioneers win 40 to 8 over South Fulton BY LORI CATHEY The Pioneers fell behind early in the game in their match-up against the Humboldt Vikings and trailed by the score of 33-0 at the half. Gibson County roared out of the locker room in the second half and out played Humboldt but fell short, losing 39 to 21. In the opening quarter Humboldt scored three touchdowns to make it 19- 0 going into the second quarter. Humboldt broke away during the second quarter scoring two more touchdowns. The Vikings took a 33-0 lead into the locker room at halftime. Gibson County’s first touchdown drive saw good runs by running backs Devonte Wilkes, Justin Richardson and quarterback Jake Siler. Siler scored on a 27-yard quarterback run and GC kicker Henry Todd’s extra point kick was good to make it 33 to 7 with 2:32 left in the third quarter. Gibson County, on their first possession of the fourth quarter, started on the 49-yard line. Gibson County running backs Richardson and Wilkes both had big carries for first downs to move the ball down field. Siler found receiver Jercolby Milan for a 14-yard reception to the 20- yard line. Siler scored on a 1-yard quarterback keeper and Todd’s extra point kick was good. The score was 33-14. Humboldt added another touchdown to make it 39- 14. Gibson County scored their final touchdown starting on their 38-yard line and saw some nice runs by the GC quarterback. Siler completed a 14- yard pass to Milan and completed a 18-yard pass to Jonny Lownsdale to the one yard line. Pioneer running back Justin Richardson scored on a 1-yard run for a touchdown. Todd kicked the extra point for the final score. Gibson County lost 39-21 to Humboldt. Gibson County offense had 277 yards rushing and 68 yards passing for a total of 345 yards and also had 17 first downs. The Pioneer Player of the Week is Jake Siler. Siler is a senior quarterback and free safety. He rushed for 144 yards, averaging 7.2 yards per carry with 20 carries. He was 5 of 9 passes for 68- yards with two touchdowns. Gibson County kicker Henry Todd was 3 for 3 for extra points kicks. Defensively Gerrius Pitts had five tackles with a sack; Brayden Williams and Shakur Harris each had five tackles; Jordan Patterson had four tackles and Siler Thornton and Jercolby Milan both had three tackles. The Pioneers next game will be at 7:30 September the 12 th at Gleason High School. BY LORI CATHEY Behind a solid defensive

effort and a strong offensive line the Gibson County Junior High football team defeated South Fulton 40 to 8.

South Fulton scored the first touchdown of the game and converted the two-point conversion to take an 8-0 lead.

Gibson County Jr. Pioneers answered right back with a long run by

running back Ozzy Rico for a touchdown. GCJH Quarterback Matthew Watson ran the ball in for the two-point conversion to tie the game 8 all.

In the second quarter the Jr. Pioneers took a 16 to 8 lead off a 74-yard run by Cayden Wylie for a touchdown and Rico converted the two-point conversion. Jr. Pioneer’s defense linemen Ethen Carrell and Noah Stafford

combined on a sack for a safety to put the Jr. Pioneers up 18-8 at halftime.

The Jr. Pioneers opened the third quarter with a run by Colin Warren for a touchdown and Watson converted the two-point conversion to make it 26 to 8.

In the final quarter the Jr. Pioneers added two more touchdowns. One by Rico on a run and Dontae Holder returned a 42-yard punt. Camron McMackin caught

a 3-yard pass and Watson, with a keeper, converted the two-point conversions to give the Jr. Pioneers a 40-8 victory.
