FROM THE SPORTS AND ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR 12.1. Barker College Visit – Sunday, 7 October. On Sunday, 7 October, Barker College will be traveling to Toowoomba Preparatory School as part of their sports tour and will be competing against Prep in Cricket, Basketball and Tennis. Due to the competition being in the holidays, we have made considerations according to the distance some boys would need to travel to come in for the fixture. We have also listed substitutes that will come into the team if there are children that are unavailable. Tennis: Harry King, Nicholas Rowan, Tom Coggan, Kelsey Neucom and Edward McDonnell. 12.2. The time has come…Wallabies V All Blacks, 20 October 2012. The pinnacle of our Rugby season is approaching, with the Prep trip to the Wallabies on the 20th October, 2012. We have secured 200 tickets for this game, which are now available for Prep families to purchase. The tickets are less expensive this year at only $70 each, including return coach transport. The ticket price remains the same even if you are making your own way to the Stadium. Tickets cannot be reserved without payment, to be fair for all. We have great seats, we will have great company and there is no doubt that it will be a brilliant night as always. Please complete the payment form at the back of the Prep News to secure your tickets. Suncorp Stadium will no doubt be full to capacity with a sell-out crowd, so we must request that all child ticket holders are accompanied by a paying adult. 12.3. Churchie V Toowoomba Prep Tennis Tournament Thursday, 6 September 2012 Our Tennis Tournament has reached quarter final stages, and our Tennis Coaches are selecting four teams of players from Year Six and Seven to compete in the Churchie V Prep Tennis Tournament in September. Term 4 Friday Evening Basketball - Coaching Assistance In Term 4, Prep will be entering teams in the Friday Evening Basketball Competition. Parents and Teachers who are able to assist are asked to complete the form attached to this week’s edition of the Prep News and return this to the Activities Office at your earliest convenience. Unfortunately we can only enter the number of teams that we have coaches for, so we encourage parents to nominate to assist in these Term 4 activities. 12.5. Netball Super Camp for players and prospective Coaches, 5-7 October 2012

There will be a Netball Super Camp conducted again this year, from the 5th – 7th October. There will be specialist qualified coaches working on ball skills, footwork, defence, attacking and position play. There are also opportunities for parents to complete coaching, umpiring and mentoring courses. The Firebirds are set to attend the camp, along with some very experienced and established coaches. There are details on the Toowoomba Netball site, alternatively, please email me at [email protected] and I can forward you a copy of the Camp information and registration.

12.6. Queensland Primary Schools Touch Tournament 2012, Saturday and Sunday 3 and 4 November

The following children have been invited to be part of our squads for the QPST Carnival at Cleveland Showgrounds, 159 Long Street, Redlands, Brisbane. We will be entering three boys and three girls teams and a bus will go down and return on both days.

The estimated cost to nominate for the weekend is $95. At this point we have limited the event to Year Seven students but will look at including Year Six if places open up in some teams. It might be a great opportunity to spend a weekend in Brisbane.

12.7. Football South West Queensland Football Clinic

Football Queensland will be holding a Holiday Clinic over the coming school holidays conducted by “Mr Magic”, Richard Mitchell. The clinic will run from 9am – 11.30am, 25 – 27 September 2012 at the Captain Cook Ovals, McGregor St Toowoomba. 12.8. Junior Football (Soccer) Coaching Course – 20 & 21 October 2012

There will be a Junior Licence held in Toowoomba on Sat/Sun 20th/21st October at West Wanderers Fields, Hume St Toowoomba from 8.30am-4.30pm each day. The Instructor will be David Nugent, 0417 562 075. This is the link for the Course - Participants need to register ONLINE to attend the course. This will be the FINAL Junior Licence for this year.

12.9. Toowoomba and District Primary School Chess Tournament, Tuesday, 4 September 2012.

The Toowoomba Chess Club’s Teams Chess Tournament for 2012 will be held on Tuesday, 4 September at Rangeville State School. Event times for this year are an 8:45am registration and an approximate conclusion time of 4:00pm. The cost of the event is $20.00 per student, with transport by bus, leaving Prep at 8.30am. If you would like to nominate your child please fill in the permission form attached to this Prep News and return to the Activities Office by Friday, 31 August. There will also be a Media Consent required to be completed as the local news organisations like to report on the Tournament. Students are required to bring with them a packed lunch and water bottle for the day. Should you have queries, please contact Mr Rick Lingard in the Activities Office.

12.10. Toowoomba Mountaineers Basketball Camp, September 20 – 23.

The Toowoomba Mountaineers are holding a Basketball Camp these holidays from September 20 – 23 at the Toowoomba Basketball Stadium in Water Street. The camp is tailored to get children ready for the Term 4 Primary School Basketball Competition, and will be attended by the Mountaineers. The camp will run each day from 9am – 3pm, for ages 5 to 12 year olds. For more details or to register, please contact Darren Mentor on 0428 393 344 or email [email protected].

12.11. Dodgers Softball Club

There is a muster on 5 September at 4pm at Kearneys Spring Ruthven Street Toowoomba, for the Dodgers Softball Club. Training will be Wednesday afternoons with the season commencing on Saturday 13th October. Players needed for all age groups from Under 6 to A Grade (Yes even the mums and dads can join).

If you would like to join some of your mates from Prep and play softball for Dodgers, come along and Have a Go!

No experience required – Learn as you go and have lots of fun along the way.

12.12. Softball and Basketball are back!

Any students who are interested in playing Basketball are encouraged to come and put their name down at the library. Permission forms will then be sent to the classrooms.

• Softball: Mr David Wigan will be coaching Softball, with training commencing on Monday, 3 September from 3:45 – 4:45pm on Jordan Oval. Any students from Years 5 to 7 wishing to trial for Andrews Cup Softball are invited to attend the Monday coaching sessions. More training session will be added as our Winter sports come to a close.

• Basketball: We are fortunate to have a fantastic line up of coaches who have already put their hands up to coach our Prep teams this year, however we are still in need of some more. Basketball this year will consist of teams for Years 7, 6 and 5. Any children who are able to and want to play from Years 3 – 5, are invited to participate in the Year 5 teams. If you are a parent and are keen to teach your skills, it would be great to hear from you in the Activities Office! We want to put forward a strong show this season, and would love your help. Year 5 Basketball training will be in the Millennium Centre, while Years 6 and 7 will be at the Wirra Wirra Courts.

12.13. Andrews Cup Netball – Monday, 28 August

After an early start on Monday, our netball Teams travelled to Coorparoo to compete in the Andrews Cup Netball Tournament. Prep sent 6 teams to compete in what was a fantastic day of competitive netball. Well done to all players and coaches, and thank-you to the parents who were able to make the trip to support the teams. Our A Grade team won undefeated up until the finals, where they were pipped at the post by 1 point, achieving 2nd overall for the day. Other results were our B Grade team coming fourth in the competition, and C Grade team coming eighth. Congratulations to all of our players on a job well done.

12.14. Saturday Sport Participation Trophy

Thank you again to all of our fantastic coaches, your work is appreciated by all, and will be recognised publicly at assembly in the not too distant future. All coaches are now able to pick up their team’s Saturday Sports Participation Trophies from the Activities Office and distribute to their teams.

12.15. Met East Cricket

Met East’s are still looking for budding Bradman’s to join their teams. All students are invited to join, and registration packs can be completed atwww.metsjuniors.com. The Mets team will endeavour to assist us with keeping our age groups of players together, depending on the numbers that they receive. 12.16. Conclusion Dates for Saturday Sport

We wish to advise the updated conclusion dates for the respective Saturday Sport competitions will be:

12.16.1. Football (Soccer)

• Under 6 to Under 11 teams conclude on Saturday, 8 September with away games in Highfields

12.16.2. Netball

• All Netta teams conclude their fixtures on Saturday, 1 September, with a BBQ following the games.

• We currently have 3 teams that have made it to the finals, Teams Parker, Drysdale and Hopgood. We wish them all the best in their final games. All other teams have finished their campaigns.

12.18. Netball Canteen Duty

Please Help - We don’t have any volunteers to assist with the one Canteen Duty remaining for the season on Saturday, 8 September from 11.00am – 12:15pm. The September 8 games are the Grand Finals, and we are only in charge of the canteen and timer for the first game. If anyone can please assist with duty for the day, it would be a huge help. Please call, email or complete the availability slip at the back of the Prep News.

12.19. Netball Fixtures - Saturday, 1 September

Toowoomba Netball Association fixtures have almost concluded, with the current week’s draw displayed below. Well done to all teams, especially those that have made it through to the finals. This will be the final week of Netta games, and the semi finals for our 12A and B teams. Good Luck!!!

12.20. Representative Teams Sports Photos – Thursday, 13 September

Team photographs will be taken on Thursday, 13 September, for athletes who participated in the following representative teams this term; Andrews Cup Athletics Team, Range Zone Athletics, Darling Downs Athletics, JSA Athletics and JB Adams Athletic and Andrew’s Cup Netball teams. There will also be photos taken of the Andrews Cup Senior A1 Touch Team and Girls Friday Senior A2 Touch team. The photos will be taken at the handball courts outside the Chapel at 10:40am. Please bring your sports/netball uniforms on this day for photos please.
