ASHTABULA – AshtabulaYMCA is now offering a fifthand sixth grade travel basket-ball league for the upcomingseason with the local travelteams and with other commu-nities’ travel teams. Registra-tion began Oct. 21. Games areon Saturdays with weekdaypractices. Games will beplayed at Ball Gymnasium.
From an organizationalperspective, the primary goalof the Ashtabula County Fam-ily YMCA travel basketballleague is to assist in the de-velopment of youth basketballplayers at the “local townlevel”, and then serving, indi-rectly, as a feeder system foreach town’s local Middle andHigh School basketball pro-grams.
From a coaching/parentalperspective, the goal of theAshtabula County Familytravel basketball league is toprovide a positive basketballexperience for youth in asmany communities as possiblewithin the Northeast Ohioarea, to enhance the develop-ment of youth through thesport of basketball, to enableyouth to see the results ofhard work and teamwork, andto help build personal charac-ter, with a focus on self es-teem, self respect and respectfor others.

PAINESVILLE – The LakeCounty YMCA will be hostinga 5K Run/Walk on Thanksgiv-ing day, Thursday, Nov. 24, be-ginning at 8:30 a.m. at theCentral Branch in Painesville.
The run/walk is dividedinto multiple age groups andthe winner of each group willreceive a pumpkin pie.
Age groups are defined as:14 & under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49,50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70& over.
“Our Turkey Day Run/Walk is a great opportunity foreveyone to have fun and workup an appetite,” said BethHorvath, Health and WellnessDirector at Lake CountyYMCA Central.
Check-in begins at 7:30a.m. on race day with the run/walk beginning at 8:30a.m.The race route will beginand end at the YMCA CentralBranch as it twists eastthrough a bike path and LakeErie College.
Fee is $15 for early regis-tration ($20 Race day) and in-cludes a free T-shirt (guaran-teed until Nov. 15). Pre-regis-tration is requested by Nov.15, registration is accepteduntil the morning of the race.
Volunteers are still neededto assist with participants.

ANDOVER TOWNSHIP - ThePymatuning Valley Lakers wontheir final game of the season 35-12 over the Mathews Mustangs.
The Lakers got on the boardearly on a 14-yard pass from JoshAdkins to Tim Cross.
Mathews would answer witha long drive of their own thatlasted from mid-way through thefirst quarter to the start of thesecond quarter. Mathews scoredon a one-yard run by Joe Siefert,but a failed kick still had themdown 7-6.

The Mentor Cardinalsgirls cross country team fin-ished second in the DivisionI District Cross Countrymeet held at LakelandCommunity College.
Freshmen KinseyRobinson led the Cardinalsfinishing second in the racewith a time of 20:35.2 Men-tor also got strong showingsfrom Jenny Mulhall, SaraScinto, Julia Lowe andNicole Rizzo who all fin-ished in the top twenty.
Emily Sweet won theoverall race for Euclid witha time of 20:34.56.

KIRTLAND - Mike Campbell usually finishes secondto his Riverside teammate Zack McBride, but on themuddy course at Lakeland Community College Campbellwas able to take second place overall.
The Beavers as a team finished third overall with ascore of 67. McBride was able to still help with that scoreas he finished sixth overall. Jacob Burr also helped theBeavers as he finished tenth overall.
The Mentor Cardinals had the best team score with a42. Mentor had Kyle Muenker, Tommy Kozlovich, JosephShaker and Jared Keipert all finish in the top ten.
North finished fifth. Anthony Car finished third over-all for the North Rangers. Brandon Green finished 12thoverall for the Rangers.
Rounding out the rest of the teams were Lakeside sev-enth place, Madison eighth place, South eleventh placeand Harvey twelfth place.
Tyler Kawalec, of Chardon, won the overall race witha time of 17:34.86.
Lakeside was once again was led by Brandon Lopezwho finished 21st. The Dragons also got strong perfor-mances from Brady Bunnell (41), Raul Rodriguez (46),Will Taggert (48) and Caleb Henry (56)
Jason Ryan led Madison finishing right behind Lopezfor 32nd place. Nick Farnsworth came in at 43rd overallfor Madison and Jon Roberts took 47th place.
Brian Fellows was the best runner for Harvey finish-ing 35th, while Deondre Martin finished 39th.
The Perry Pirates boys cross country team capturedfirst place at the Division II District Cross Country meetheld at Lakeland Community College.
The Pirates were lead by Christopher Jordan (fourthplace, 18:31.92) and Dustin Gilbert (fifth place, 18:33.65).Perry also received strong performances from DevinPritschau (15), Ian Cowling (17), Eric Grubaugh (22).
David Thorne finished eighth overall for Lake Catho-lic who finished tenth overall as a team.
Phillip Scheanon finished in the top ten for the War-riors at ninth place with a time of 18:57.75. Gabe McLeodwas right behind for Geneva finishing tenth with a timeof 19:00.59. Edgewood who finished fifth with a team scoreof 129 also got a top 15 performance by Derryn Tomsic.The Eagles finished eighth overall with a team score of203.
Conneaut was lead by a 21st place finish by Alex Wil-liams and finished ninth with a team score of 227.

Madison captured a fifthplace finish thanks in largepart to Annette Brickmanand Taylor Cline finishing29th and 30th respectivelyfor the Blue Streaks. Also,helping Madison advancewere Katarina Funk,Samantha Martin and ErinHord.
Rounding out the top tenwere Riverside (182),Lakeside (204), Geneva(217), South (229) andNorth (281).
Kristen Beres narrowlymissed out for the Dragons
finishing 21st overall witha time of 22:17.31.
Dajana Tomicic was thetop runner for South finish-ing 33rd. Karen Barrientosfinished 36th overall forLakeside. Adrea Ayres fin-ished 38th for North.
Alyssa Niesset qualifiedfor the Eagles as she fin-ished 17th overall. HaileyVan Hoy barely missed outon the top twenty finishing25th overall for Geneva.

The Perry Pirates wereable to qualify two girls inregionals as Marissa Sellfinished 5th overall in Divi-sion II AND Maggie Halefinished 13th.

Cleveland Heights Beau-mont took home first placefor the Division II districtsheld at Lakeland with ateam score of 60. Perry fin-ished fifth with a team scoreof 120. Conneaut came insixth place with a team scoreof 174. The Warriors finishedninth with a score of 241.

BOARDMAN – TheJefferson Falcons boys’cross country team will beadvancing to the state meetafter qualifying fourth atregionals. The Falcons fin-ished fourth out of 16teams with a team score of152. The Perry Pirates alsoqualified for state by finish-ing third overall with ateam score of 149. The Fal-cons knew going into therace from checkingmilesplit.com that based onprevious scores the teamwould finish anywhere be-tween fourth and sixthplace if they ran the racesthey were suppose to.While the times were downdue to the muddy course,the places were right wherethey needed to be. With somuch commotion going onand 21 runners runningindividual races it washard for Jefferson to figureout if they were going tomake it. However, in theend they had a comfortablecushion over fifth placeLakeview who finishedwith a team score of 174.

The Division II boys’race was the fifth race ofthe day and even in themorning walk through thecourse was filled with mud.By the time the runnersran their race the coursewas pretty much a disaster.Groups of two and threerunners occasionally wouldslip and lose their balance.However, Dave Chase ranstrong throughout the en-tire match navigating thecourse with both wide andtight turns to stay on hisfeet. Chase would finishthird overall in the race forthe Falcons and that inlarge part helped Jeffersontake fourth overall. Chasefinished with a time of18:11.99.
“He was running with somuch confidence as a resultof winning districts a weekago,” Jefferson’s HeadCoach John Patterson said.
Adam Chase also helpedthe Falcons and narrowlymissed out qualifying indi-vidually with a 22nd placefinish. The Falcons also gota great showing from fresh-man Mathew Kantor whoplaced the highest he hasall season by finishing 40th
overall. Andrew Picard alsohad his best place for theFalcons as he placed 71st.Rounding out the scoringfor the Falcons was DaranWoodin with a 73rd placefinish.
“It’s a thrill for me towork with such dedicatedyoung men,” CoachPatterson said.
The last time the Fal-cons qualified for the state
meet was in 2002 wherethey finished third.
The Perry Pirates fin-ished three points ahead ofthe Falcons and will bejoining them at the statemeet held at National TrailRaceway in Hebron. ThePirates were led by a 15thplace finish by Dustin Gil-bert with a time of

ORWELL - The GrandValley Mustangs juniorhigh football team made upof 15 eighth graders and 23seventh graders went 7-0this year during the eighthgrade football schedule.The seventh graders went2-1 in their games. Theeighth grade teamoutscored their opponents232-44.
Ralph Turk has beencoaching the Mustangs forthe past 25 years and hashad only two teams haveundefeated the seasons.The last team to have ac-complished this was thecurrent senior class nowleading the Grand ValleyMustangs Varsity football
team. Assisting Turk forthe past several years hasbeen Larry Dyke and DaveOscar. Jake Volmelker wasa student coach this yearfor the team.
The Eighth Graders onthe team were: MattLarned, Matthew Moodt,Robert McClure, Colt Yox,Austyn Spoon, Caleb Self,Daniel Kalman, CodyFreeman, Cody Howson,Brandon Mihalov,Zackary Randell, AustinEubank, Kaleb Mathis,John Martin and JoeStarcovic.
The Seventh Gradersconsisted of: NoahGlavickas, RobertMidgett, Tyler Butler, Lo-gan Drenski, AnthonyCrum, Jacob Kocab, ScottPlumley, Robert Haislah,

Matt Larned led theMustangs at the quarter-back position and was alsoa cornerback on the de-fense. Mathew Moodt wasa solid tight end and line-backer for the junior highteam.
The main running backsfor the Mustangs wereAustyn Spoon and CodyFreeman, the duo was alsothe starting outside line-backers.
Colton Yox was the lead-ing receiver on the teamand played safety on de-fense.
The Mustangs were ableto have such a successfulseason in large part due totheir outstanding linemanconsisting of: CodyHowson, Brandon Mihalov,Zack Randell, Kaleb Mattisand Austin Eubank.
A few seventh graderscontributed on the fieldduring the eighth gradegames, but regardless theentire seventh grade rosterwas a big part of the suc-cess due to their perfor-mance in practice. JakeKocab was one of the mainseventh graders who con-tributed at the runningback and line backer posi-tion.

Madison Blue Streak MarchingBand hosts annual ChickenDinner and chinese auction
MADISON - The Madison Blue Streak Marching Bandwill once again host their annual chicken dinner on Sat-urday, Nov. 12, 5 p.m. at Madison High School gym andcafeteria. Anyone may attend the concerts for free, din-ner is $10 per person, $25 for a family of three or fourand $5 for each additional family member with more thanfour.
This year’s entertainment will include the MHS JazzBand along with the sixth, seventh and eighth gradebands.
Band-a-Palooza times: 4:30 p.m. sixth grade band, 5p.m. seventh grade band, 5:30 p.m. eighth grade bandand 6:15 p.m. MHS Jazz Band. Dinner will be served from5 to 7 p.m.
This year will have a new menu that consist of fried orrotisary chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, vegetable,rigatoni, coleslaw, bread and butter, dessert, beverage andcoffee.
Concluding the evening at 7 p.m. will be the chineseauction, silent auction and 50/50 raffle.
This is the bands big fund-raiser for the year to helpthe students and parents defer expenses for their trip toDisney in April.

MADISON – The Madison Joint RecreationDistrict held a recent meeting on Thursday,Oct. 27 at the Madison Village Hall. One of theissues on hand was the new Youth FootballSubcommittee which will be made up of: JohnDragas, Chad Burgard and Walt Alley. TheMJRD recently sent a proposal to help over-see the Madison Youth Football League due toproblems in the league this year.
A letter from the MYFL was entered ontorecord during the meeting. The letter statedthat the MYFL would like to decline the MJRDplan to oversee the MYFL.
Part of the letter stated: “MYFL would liketo respectfully decline MJRD offer for com-plete control of MYFL. We will be implement-ing several of MJRD suggestions, and we agreethat better communication between Parentsand MYFL Community is a must and MYFL istaking steps to improve this.”
The Madison Youth Football League usuallyholds its meetings the first Monday of themonth at the Township Police Department.There are currently board positions open forinterested parents and community members.
The MYFL would also like interested par-ties to know that they are compiling a newemail list to keep everyone better informed onthe MYFL community. To join the email listplease email Mike Cosper [email protected].
MYFL will also be starting a new websitewith MYFL information and news available toeveryone.
“MYFL has taken complaints to heart thisyear and MYFL will work on resolving the is-sues and making next year even better,” ac-cording to the letter written by MYFL BoardMember Mike Cosper.
The next step as far as the Madison JointRecreation District is concerned is that theywill still be looking into matters and have thenew subcommittee. However, the MJRD main-tains that it does not want to completely run afootball league, but would advise a board ofparents interested in starting a new league ifthere are enough interested parties.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS - The Grand Valley Mus-tangs finished out their season strong with a 50-0 winover Lutheran East. The Mustangs started off hot scor-ing 28 points in the first quarter and then put it intocruise control for the rest of the game.
A.J. Henson connected with Mitchell Lake for the firstscore of the game on a 15-yard touchdown pass. Lakewould kick in the first of his six extra points.
The Mustangs would extend their as Henson hookedup with Joe Satterfield for a 20-yard touchdown.
The Mustangs then added another score on the groundthis time as Adam Moodt ran it in for a 16-yard run. TheMustangs were quickly up 21-0 in the first quarter.

“It (today) was a reallytough game,” said Schutz.“We beat them 7-0 earlier.They have improved somuch.”
After controlling thepace in the early part of thegame, Mentor took a 1-0lead on Seaman’s niftystrike from about 25 yardsout on the left side, whichfound the upper right sideof the goal.

Though Mentor still con-trolled the tempo for themajority of the second half,Heights did tie the score

ASHTABULA TOWN-SHIP - The local footballseason ended with theneighborhood rivalry withConneaut at Edgewood.The hosts won the first halfbut the Spartans won thesecond and held on for thetriumph, 30-28.
Coach Rocco Dobranearned his first win as ahead coach at Conneautbut he was quick to givecredit. “This night wasabout seniors, seniors, se-niors,” he said. “Tyler Roseran the ball three timeswhen we were trying to runout the clock and got threefirst downs when theyknew we were trying to se-cure the win. He held onthe ball with both so hewouldn’t fumble. JoeyBrennan kicked the gamewinning field goal andBrandon Burdine returnedthe interception all the wayto the end zone. I thoughthe would be down at the35.”
As befitting the rivalry,the game was well played,hard hitting and verycompetitve. Each team hadits runs to the lead.
In the first quarter, theteams exchanged posses-sions. On the next Warriorseries the Spartan D forcedthe host deep into theirown zone,forcing a Warriorpunt. Starting the series atthe E 37, Conneautmarched downfield, withQB Aaron Bowers going upthe middle for the finalyards. Joey Brennankicked the first of his threeextra points and the Spar-tans had the initial advan-tage,7-0.
The Spartan defenseagain held but the puntwas fumbled and recoverednear midfield by the War-riors. On the first play, QBLou Wisnyai went left onan option, broke throughand sped 42 yards to theend zone. Zach Williamsonadded the first of his threepoints after and it was anew game, 7-7.
On Edgewood’s next se-ries, Wisnyai hit receiverKevin Joslin on a shortslant for another TD, 14-7.
Turnovers have been apain for the Spartans thisyear. A second fumble wasrecovered by the Warriorsin their zone. Strikingquickly, a perfect pass overthe middle to Joslin went70 yards for the TD, 21-7.
As it seemed the mo-mentum had shifted to theWarriors, the Spartansfought back.

After the intermission,each defense forced a punt.After the Warrior kick,Conneaut began their se-ries on the host’s 35. On thefirst play, Huffman went inmotion out of the spread,took the handoff aroundright end and out raced thedefense to the end zone.Now it was a new game, 21-21.
The Spartan D, stout allnight, then forced anotherWarrior punt. Conneautstacked ten men near theline, runs up the middle hita brick wall.The ends did afine job of stringing out anyrunning play outside andprevented Edgewoodspeedster Riis Smith fromturning the corner andfinding running room.
As the third periodwound down, the visitorsfielded the punt nearmidfield and began thedrive downfield. WithHuffman and Bowers run-ning, QB Sam Distelrathfound Tyler Rose with aslant deep into Warrior ter-ritory. “I saw the guy comingand played it perfectly. Iwent down the sideline,and Tyler Cox laid down aperfect block, I jumped overhim. The D line had greatpressure and the D backshad good coveragedownfield. It was a greatway to end the the season,”Burdine described his bigplay.
True Warriors neverquit. On the kickoff, RiisSmith took the ball back tomidfield. On the first playQB Wisnyai found KevinJoslin speeding down thesideline and hit him with apass in stride. Joslincruised into the end zoneand in ten seconds, theSpartans’ nine point leadhad shrunk to two, 30-28.
Conneaut received thekickoff and kept the ball onthe ground to eat up thelast four minutes. Firstdown runs by Tyler Rosekept the clock running.When the Warriors hadused their last timeout,Sam Distelrath took a kneeand ran off the final sec-onds, game over.
“We didn’t run the ballwell, he (Dobran) had tenmen in the box and it madeit difficult to get any sort ofrunning game going. Ev-erything we did was withour passing game. Obvi-ously, it didn’t end like we
would have liked, but thisis a neighborhood rivalryand both teams played ex-tremely well,” Iaroccisummed up.
Statistically speaking,Aaron Bowers ran 12 timesfor 62 yards and 2 TDs.Dvyan Huffman had 12carries for 62 and a score.Tyler Rose carried seventimes for 34. SamDistelrath had five carriesfor two yards and RJNelson added two totes forthree.
For the Warriors: RiisSmith was held to 13 car-ries for 31 yards by theSpartan D. Lou Wisnyaihad 8 carries for 60 yardsand a TD. Jeff Imbrognoadded 7 rushes for 15 andTyler Legere was 2-4 yards.
In the air attack, Spar-tan Sam Distelrath hadfour completions in ten at-tempts for 54 yards. AaronBowers completed one passin two attempts for nineyards.
The Warriors air gamewas very productive. LouWisnyai completed fivepasses of 17 attempts for152 yards and 3 TDs. Healso threw 2 INTs.
Receivers were: TylerRose with three catches for48; Nick Blood , 1-3, AaronBowers, 1-12.
Kevin Joslin had an out-standing game for the War-riors with four catches for144 yards and 3 TDs. An-thony Magda had one catchfor 8.

Conneaut fumbled threetimes and lost two, bothleading to Edgewoodscores. The Warriorsfumbled once andConneaut recovered.

Each team will loseabout a dozen seniors butwith many freshmen andsophomores gaining varsityplaying time on each team,next year looks brighter.

The Eagles remainedclose early on after trailing7-0 at the end of one and14-0 at the end of two quar-ters. The Preppers onlytouchdown in the firstquarter came late on a 54-ard pass from Tyler Edento Luke Vadas.
The Preppers wouldscore again in the secondquarter as Kevin Smithscored on a 30-yard passfrom Eden, making it 14-0.
The Preppers wouldthen get on a roll in thethird quarter after recover-ing a Geneva fumble. ThePreppers would take ad-vantage on a three-yardtouchdown run by Smith.
Eden then got thingsdown with his legs as hescored on a pair of longruns. Eden scored on runsof 47-yards and 33-yards toput the Preppers up 35-0.

PERRY TOWNSHIP – The Madison Blue Streaks wereable to get past the Riverside Beavers by scoring on theirfirst six offensive possessions. The Blue Streaks man-aged to score 26 points in the first quarter as they de-feated the Beavers 59-21.
Billy Skerkavich scored the first touchdown of thegame on a three-yard run. The Blue Streaks would keepit on the ground as Josh March plunged in from one yardout for the second score of the game. Madison was quicklyup 12-0.
Jason O’Bryan then connected with Quentin Cieslinskifor a 40-yard touchdown, increasing the lead to 19-0. TheBlue Streaks were not done as Skerkavich later scoredhis second touchdown of the game on a one-yard as Madi-son went up 26-0.
The Blue Streaks would continue rolling in the sec-ond quarter as Mark Murray got into the action with afive-yard touchdown run.
Riverside was finally able to get on the board on a longrun by Anthony Bilal. Bilal scored on a 60-yard run andSteve Ivaskovic scored on the two-point conversion, butRiverside was down 33-8.
Madison would answer scoring one more time beforehalf time as Andy Karlson connected with Cieslinski fora 29-yard touchdown.
The Blue Streaks would continue the scoring paradein the second half as the defense got on the scoreboard.Skerkavich recovered a fumble and took it 16-yards forthe score.
Karlson then threw for his second touchdown of thegame this time a nine-yard pass to O’Bryan.
Riverside would try to fight back in the fourth quarteras they scored a pair of touchdowns.
Bilal scored his second touchdown of the game on asix-yard run.
Riverside then had a defensive touchdown of their ownas Matt Miller scored on a 33-yard fumble recovery.
The Blue Streaks would score the final touchdown ofthe game as Nick Knight scored on a 21-yard run, mak-ing the final score 59-21.
Karlson finished the game 14 for 15 passing for 215yards and two touchdowns. The Blue Streaks had fiveinterceptions in the game two by O’Bryan, while March;Mason Kensinger, and Cieslinksi each had one.
The Madison Blue Streaks finished 8-2 on the yearand will advance to Division II Regional Quarterfinal.

The Perry Pirates tried their best to battle back froma 42-7 halftime deficit against Chagrin Falls. The Piratesscored 27 points in the fourth quarter and fell 56-41.
Chagrin Falls improved to 10-0 on the season, whilePerry fell to 4-6.
Nate Levkulich scored the first touchdown for Perryon a two-yard run, but the Tigers lead 14-7.
The Tigers then scored four unanswered touchdowns,before Perry got back on the board in the third quarter.Mitch VanDewell scored for Perry on a 61-yard touch-down from Cale Burdyshaw. However, the Pirates stilltrailed 42-14.
Chagrin would answer with a touchdown of their ownin the third quarter to extend their lead to 49-14.
The Pirates would gain a little bit of momentum inthe fourth quarter as they outscored the Tigers 27-7.
Burdyshaw threw for three touchdowns in the fourthquarter. The first was an eleven-yard touchdown pass toNolan Farell.
Burdyshaw then connected with Drew Russell twiceon touchdown passes of ten-yards and 42-yards.
The final score of the game came on a 36-yard touch-down pass from Levkulich to VanDeweel, making the fi-nal score 56-41.
Levkulich finished the game with 145 yards on 24 car-ries for Perry. Burdyshaw finished the game with fourtouchdown passes and 201 passing yards.

MENTOR - The Mentor High School boy’s soccer team’sseason-ending 2-0 defeat to Shaker Heights in a DivisionI Euclid District semifinal clash on October 24 looked alltoo familiar to Head Coach Brady Dean. Despite control-ling possession for most of the game, the Cardinals (8-9)were not able to get on the scoreboard.
The Red Raiders scored their first goal with 14:55 leftin the first half. They then added their second goal withunder one minute left in the game when Mentor was in afull attack mode.
The Cardinals had several scoring chances as ColinEedy’s shot near the end of the first half hit the post.
Chris Jordan also had a breakaway late in the secondhalf where he was interfered with. The official determinedthat this happened outside the goalie box so he wasawarded a free kick and not a penalty kick.
His kick narrowly missed Nikhil Shah who was in agood position to score. Jacob Lombardo and Aaron Hardenalso had opportunities to get good shots on goal.
“This was how the whole season has gone,” Dean said.“We have controlled possession on a lot of teams. We didwhat we were supposed to. They are bigger and fasterthan us, but we still controlled possession. It is hard whenyour leading scorer has nine goals in 18 games. We weren’table to finish.”

After beatingLakeside 9-0 in their firstgame of the tournament,the top seeded Cardinalsfollowed up by beating Riv-erside, the champions ofthe Premier Athletic Con-ference 5-0 on October 26at Jerome T. Osborne Sta-dium.
With the win, Mentor(12-3-3) is slated to take onCleveland Heights in thefinals.

“That was a total teameffort,” said Seaman. “Wemade a bunch of passes toget in position. Kayla tookthe shot and I just hap-pened to be there to put itin.”
The Cardinals contin-ued their control of thegame in the second half asSeaman, with a left footed
shot, found the back of thenet with under three min-utes in to gave her team acommanding 3-0 lead.
“We have come togetheras a team,” said Seaman.“It is all of us - from thedefense to the forwards.”
Riverside coach MarkMallon is convinced.
“They were better thanus,” he said. “They werefaster, stronger and moretechnical.”
Still though, the Bea-vers’ first year coach couldnot help but be proud of histeam which does not haveany seniors.
“This was my first year,”he said. “Last year theywent 7-6-3. We are a youngteam. They exceeded all ofmy expectations. We prob-ably squeezed a couple ex-tra games out of this sea-son. It will help in the fu-ture. It is tough though toend this way.”

JEFFERSON – Therewas plenty of action in theopening game of theGeneva Eagles againstNotre Dame-CathedralLatin volleyball game inthe Division II Districtsemifinal. The two teamswould continue to battlethroughout the match withNDCL winning threegames to one. NDCL tookthe opening game 25-18and went on to win 25-18,17-25, 25-17, 25-23.
Geneva started strongas Katie Beacom picked upa dig on the opening pointand Chelsea Scafuro fin-ished it with a kill.

The second game was adifferent story for theEagles after going down 0-2 they battled back to 5-2behind an ace serve fromScafuro. The Eagles ex-tended their lead to 11-5behind four service pointsby Clutter. Geneva wouldget another string of ser-vice points by Beacom to goup 18-7.
NDCL tried to fight backbehind a pair of kills by Wil-liams, who also served forfour straight points, butGeneva held on to win 25-17.
The Lions had the hotserve in the third game asChrissy Grcar served foreight points to put them up15-6. NDCL would go on towin the third game 25-17.
The final game was justas intense as the rest of thematch as the Lions edged
out the Eagles 25-23. TheEagles would go ahead 10-5 behind five service pointsby Clutter. However, theLions would battle backbehind a pair of kills byWilliams and one by Vellato cut the lead to 11-9.Kuchta then picked up fourkills during the middle por-tion of the game to put the
Lions up 16-15. LindsayLaurello would then servefive points for the Eagles togive them a 21-16 lead.
Kuchta would againhelp the Lions come backwith four service points ofher own. Williams thenpicked up two more killsdown the stretch to give theLions a 25-23 win.
