Sports as an arena, is undergoing a paradigm shift in India today. It is quite overwhelming to note that
sports, which was once merely considered as a pass time activity or hobby in our society, is today
evolving as full time profession of masses. Sports is a gigantic industry and multimillion affair in
current times.
Gujarat has witnessed a tremendous growth in the sports domain over a period of time. Several
sportspersons have emerged as champions in varied national and international events. In this light,
the government of Gujarat has taken a praiseworthy initiative by establishing Swarnim Gujarat Sports
University (SGSU) in Gandhi nagar.
SGSU, with its wide range of professional and specialized courses in sports and its related disciplines, is
a new ray of hope for nationwide students wishing to carve a niche for themselves in the arena of
sports. This fastest growing sports University, with its team of dedicated professionals, aims to be one
of the premier sports institutions at national as well as at global level.
With facilities like Human performance lab and testing lab, to identify and assess the physical fitness
level of the youth, the University stands ahead of other Sports Universities in India.

Swarnim Gujarat Sports University is the brain-child of Shri Narendra Modi and everyone felt happy when the announcement regarding establishment of SGSU came in 2011.
I feel honoured to serve this University which has been established for the reinforcement of Sports culture in the State of Gujarat. It is a matter of pride for those who work or are otherwise are associated with the University in different capacities.
The students of the University have been given maximum exposure in various evolving areas of sports such as Physical Education, Sports Sciences, Sports Nutrition, Sports Journalism & Mass media technology, Sports Psychology, Sports Sociology, Sports Management and Tourism, Sports Coaching and Training , Sports Technology, Teacher Education Programme, High Performance Training Programme, Applied Sports Science Programme, Technical Official Training Programme and Coach Education programme etc. The University provides ample scope for employment in different sectors such as Schools, Colleges, Universities, Fitness Centres, Hospitals, Yoga Centres, Industries, Organizations, SAl Centres, Associations, Clubs, Social Organizations, IT Sectors etc.

The Gujarat Govt. has taken a praiseworthy initiative by establishing Swarnim Gujarat Sports Un
(SGSU) in Gandhinagar for the bright future of the sporting world. A strong and healthy atmosphere for
sports has been created in Gujarat through Khel Mahakumbh and new sports schools/academies. The
establishment ofSwarnim Gujarat Sports University has opened up doors for a wide range of opportunities
for students of physical education and sports sciences for making career in sports industry.
The greatest advantage of studying sports is that alongside studying students get many opportunities of
becoming a sports person. Today sports persons are getting great amount of financial help as well as
international reputation due to the encouraging policies of the government. Many renowned players have
established their own training academies and have succeeded in the professional field as well. At SGSU a
number of career oriented courses will be offered. Until now, the activities of sports and physical education
were limited only to school and college level due to which sports coaches and teachers were getting limited
job opportunities. But in recent times, there are many opportunities in both public & private sectors.
In private sectors, many recreation clubs, five star hotels, entertainment theme parks, corporate societies,
modern townships and private residential buildings with world class facilities have come into existence
wherein facilities for sporting activities is accorded prime importance. As a result, new opportunities have
arisen for building careers as sports coordinator, swimming pool attendant, gymnasium coach, recreation
manager etc. Besides, today many private international and national day schools have been established
where in there are requirements of sports coordinators and physical educators.
There are some other fields which are still unfamiliar to and untried by the students such as Adventure
Sports, Sports Management, Sports Event Management, Sports Tourism, Sports Law, Sports Journalism,
Sports Nutrition, Sports Physiotherapy, Sports Massage etc. Career in these fields can earn name, fame and
money. SGSU will commence new courses like 'P.G. Diploma in Sports Tourism' and 'P.G. Diploma in
Adventure Sports Administration' so as to prepare experts who can organize national and international level
adventure sports activities. At present there is a lack of experts in the aforementioned fields, as a result of
which, programmes of international standards cannot be organized. In fitness industry as well fields like
Sports Physiotherapy, Sports Nutrition and Medicine, Sports Massage and Sports Exercise therapy etc. lack
experts. SGSU will offer various one year P.G. Diploma courses to prepare experts in this field.
To excel sports culture which promotes inescapable spiritual and ethical dimension that exists within sports and sports persons.
The prime endeavour of the University is to offer opportunities towards manifestation, transformation and channel of communication on the power of good inherent in sports and sportsmen.
• To achieve quality in teaching, coaching and research to excel world-class educators in the field of physical education and sports sciences.
• To protect, sustain, and enhance top form of sports persons in modern competitive sports and games, and traditional Indian Games.
The aim of this University is not only to provide world-class educators in the field of Physical Education and Sports but also to produce world-class sportsmen, coaches and technical officials. Therefore, our focal point is to create excellent professionals who have in themselves rich dignity, are highly motivated and committed to their profession and sport as well.
