The modern Olympic Games are the leading international sporting event featuring summer and winter sports competitions. The Olympic Games are considered the most important world’s sportcompetition with more than 200 nations participating.

The Summer Olympic The Summer Olympic GamesGames First held in 1896, are an international

multi-sport event, occurring every four years, organized by the International Olympic Committee. Medals are awarded in each event, with gold medals for first place, silver for second and bronze for third, a tradition that started in 1904.Five countries – Greece, Australia, France, Great Britain and Switzerland – have been represented at all Summer Olympic Games. The only country to have won at least one gold medal at every Summer Olympic Games is Great Britain.

The Winter Olympic The Winter Olympic GamesGames The Winter Olympics feature sports practiced on

snow and ice. The first Winter Olympics, the 1924 Winter Olympics, was held in Chamonix, France. The original 5 sports (broken into 9 disciplines) were bobsleigh, curling, ice hockey, Nordic skiing, cross-country skiing, Nordic combined, ski jumping and skating (consisting of the disciplines figure skating and speed skating).Twelve countries – Austria, Canada, Finland, France, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States – have sent athletes to every Winter Olympic Games. Six of those – Austria, Canada, Finland, Norway, Sweden and the United States – have earned medals at every Winter Olympic Games, and only one – the United States – has earned gold at each Games.

First Olympic medal for Poland was won in 1924 four cyclists track composed Franciszek Szymczyk, John Łazarski, Joseph Lange and Thomas Stankiewicz - it was the silver medal.
