Combining investment principles and philanthropy, and as an extension of corporate sponsorship, The Grand Commission is providing corporations

and Individuals an opportunity to make a long-term difference in the lives of homeless and trafficked youth through our new pledge program. In doing so, The Foundation has collaborated with experts at Covenant House Toronto to identify verticals in most need of funds that will have long lasting impact. This year will be a new supported housing program for victims of sex-trafficking. This is a complimentary project to their transitional housing program, The Rogers Home that opened in 2016.

This new housing program will serve up to 6 girls at a time, who are in the stages of crisis, contemplating or ready to change their current circumstances. They will be able to access services from basic necessities through to trauma and addiction counselling and court support along with other services offered at Covenant House like healthcare, educational and vocational programs. Covenant House is a learning organization that is committed to developing best and promising practices in their field and widely sharing that knowledge with others.

Corporations and individuals will have the opportunity to own or support a project associated with the capital or service delivery of this new residence for victims of sex trafficking, leaving a legacy for our country. Each project can be supported by a pledge that is paid over a 24 month period. The Grand Commission will support peripheral fundraising initiatives to help achieve pledge goals, through both its operational expertise and social media channels. Furthermore, each pledge project will be highlighted on video at the gala.

Victims who have escaped their trafficking situations are often at high risk for re-victimization, especially if they cannot meet their basic, immediate needs. Therefore, it is crucial that all emergency needs are met before attempting to focus on long-term treatment and care.

Girls who have been victims of sex trafficking often have post-traumatic stress disorder and addiction issues.

Covenant House provides access to trauma-informed and culturally respectful care and services including health care, mental health and addiction treatment. Their Healthcare Clinic will provide for the residents’ general health and will lead healthcare support for each girl, including blood work, STI and HIV testing. Through community partnerships they coordinate specialized treatment services.

C O U R T S U P P O R T

Over the past few years Covenant House has become an expert with respect to the legal process and how to support young women through the system. Without victim testimony it is very difficult to prosecute a trafficker. For many trafficked victims, the idea of facing their abuser in court is extremely frightening. Their Human Trafficking Advocates encourage and support girls through this process, and, as a result, about 80 per cent of the girls chose to prosecute their exploiter.
