Diagnosed with dyslexia and placed in special education classes, Heaven says, “I hid behind this label; I felt safer not being noticed.” She describes being compliant, year after year, never asking for help – afraid to draw attention to herself, until a family crisis led her to drop out of school after her tenth grade year.
