“THE DOMINANT FACTOR IN THE NEXT TWO DECADES IS NOT GOING TO BE ECONOMICS OR TECHNOLOGY. IT WILL BE DEMOGRAPHICS.”
-PETER DRUCKER
Latinos comprise 40% of new workers entering the labor force — A number expected to grow by 77% between 2000
and 2020 while the non-Latino labor force grows by 9%.
Are you ready?
* HBR Sept. 1997 - Peter Drucker was a writer, management consultant, and self-described “social ecologist” widely considered to be the father of “modern management”
OUR MISSION
To create a pipeline of HispanicLatino leaders who
understand the implications of the responsibilities that the nation’s changing demographics have thrust upon them.
FUEL YOUR TALENT PIPELINE
1. Corporate Recruitment: Conexión sponsorship sends the message that your company is committed to HispanicLatino professional development and leadership.
2. Tap into the premier Latino network in the city.
3. Expand marketing opportunities.
4. Develop existing talent: Unleash the potential of HispanicLatino mid-career employees already in your company by enrolling them in the program--in addition to sponsorship. We also welcome your senior executives as mentors.
THE TEN MONTH PROGRAM
• Focuses on mid-career HispanicLatino professionals
as the feeder base for senior-level talent
• One-on-one sessions with an executive mentor, e.g.
C-suite, EVPs and entrepreneurs
• Ten monthly professional development group
sessions
• Expanded professional network
• Survey says:
§ 72% stay connected after official mentoring year
§ 100% would recommend the program to others
Walter Pressey, retired CFO Boston Holding Company Marilyn Desimone, Eastern Bank Branch Manager
THE CONEXION MODEL RATIONALE
Conexion model is based on the concept of Social Capital.
“…The central premise of social capital is that social networks have value.
Social capital refers to:
The collective value of all 'social networks' [who people know] and the
inclinations that arise from these networks to do things for each other
[norms of reciprocity]”
A mentor – someone “ in your corner” to serve as a sounding board and make
connections.
THE CONEXION MODEL
A MENTOR’S IMPACT
Mabel Ramirez, Ph.D, MIT Lincoln Laboratory, (Cohort X alumna)—
Mabel’s mentor is retired CEO of Draper Laboratory, Jim Shields. He has invited her to a number of industry events and has introduced her to groups and individuals that she likely would not have met at this point in her career.
Mabel was selected for the National Academy of Engineering - Frontiers of Engineering Symposium! Only 89 of the nations brightest young engineers are selected for this symposium! She attributes this honor to her mentor, “I
would not be sharing this good news if my mentor Jim Shields had not nominated me.”
Mabel has been promoted and her mentor is still there for her as a sounding board even though their Conexión year has ended!
