ABOUT OUR UPCOMING INAUGURAL SUMMIT

“TAPESTRY OF EVOLUTION: STRENGTH, POWER

AND INFLUENCE”

“TAPESTRY OF EVOLUTION: STRENGTH, POWER AND

INFLUENCE”

The Purpose of the First Inaugural WLI Summit is to promote and

encourage economic, educational, health, socio/political

empowerment for the betterment of Latinas, women, family and

community by utilizing and developing leaders while encouraging

professional and personal development.

The Summit is a culmination of the Wise Latina International’s “Latina Identity

Project,” initiated October of 2013. Part I brought together women in El Paso and

Juarez to explore “Who Are We? What does it Mean to be Latina?” Part II

examined “The State of Latinas in El Paso” in matters of education, health,

economic equality, among others.

The Inaugural Summit will take data gathered at those two meetings to address the

future and our role in contributing to the economic, educational, health and

socio/political growth of our communities.

The summit will promote positive representation and appreciation of cultural

traditions, historical accuracy, and language in its goal to ensure equal access

and opportunity.

Format: The summit will be a multi-

faceted platform that will encourage the

use of interactive and liberating structures

to engage speakers and participants alike

in roundtable discussions. WLI’s intention

is to provide a forum for free flowing ideas

that will result in recommendations and a

Call to Action that will ultimately provide

results.

Speakers: Currently, WLI has reached

out to Former Secretary of Labor Hilda

Solis, First Latina to serve on the

President’s Cabinet. Entrepreneur,

Construction Industry pioneer and first

as Co-Owner of the Colorado Rockies,

Linda Alvarado, and Dr. Christine Sierra,

Professor and Director of University of New

Mexico’s Southwest Hispanic Research

Institute, whose sixty-two affiliated faculty

engage in historical and contemporary

research on Hispanic populations and

communities in local, regional, national

and transnational contexts. (Partial list)
