                                   Appendix  A

                             Conflict  of  Interest  Statement

Conflict  of  Interest  A  conflict  of  interest  is  a  situation  in  which  a  person  is  in  a  position  to  derive

personal  or  financial  benefit  from  actions  or  decisions  made  in  their  official  capacity.  Background

The  Canadian  Nursing  Informatics  Association  (CNIA)  is  a  non-‐profit  association  that  partners  with

Jurisdictions,  nursing  and  health  informaticians  and  health  informatics  organizations  across  Canada  to  ensure  nursing  informatics  informs  clinical  practice,  education,  research,  administration  and  policy.

CNIA  in  partnership  with  the  SNIA  to  co-‐host  the  National  2020  conference  on  May  21-‐22,  2020  at  the  University  of  Saskatchewan,  Saskatoon,  Saskatchewan.  CNIA  and  its  partner  jurisdictional  members  strive  to  maintain  the  highest  standards  of  integrity  as  has  come  to  be  expected  from  the  nursing  profession.  It  is  our  foremost  concern  that  the  individuals/groups/organizations  that  we  work  with  are  confident  of  our  commitment  to  maintaining  this  integrity  and  credibility.  Irrespective  of  any  regional  activities  or  procurements,  CNIA  maintains  a  working  relationship  with  regional  informatics  organizations  for  the  sole  purposes  of  advancing  nursing  informatics  competencies,  capacity  development,  training  opportunities,  and  evolution  of  nursing  informatics.

Duty  to  Disclose  Every  individual  serving  on  any  CNIA  committee  has  the  obligation  to  disclose  any

known  or  potential  conflict  of  interest  in  regard  to  regional  activities  or  procurements.  Where  necessary,  recusal  from  committee  decisions  or  activities  (such  as  sponsorship)  is  required  to  maintain  CNIA  neutrality.

Committee  members  seeking  sponsorship  for  the  purposes  of  this  conference  on  behalf  of  CNIA  have  a  duty  to  disclose  any  known  or  potential  conflict  of  interest  related  to  connecting  with  vendors  or  other  potential  sponsors.  It  must  be  made  explicit  to  all  vendors  and  potential  sponsors  that  any  financial  support  given  to  CNIA  for  the  operation  of  this  conference  shall  have  no  bearing  on  the  outcome  of  any  regional  procurement  process  and  that  CNIA  remains  a  neutral  and  uninvolved  party  to  regional  activities  or  decisions.
