INCUBATOR SHOWCASE
JUNE 8, 2017 • CEWIT
WELCOME
Entrepreneurship is neither a science nor an art. It is a practice — Peter F. Drucker
Welcome to the second annual Incubator Showcase hosted by the Stony Brook University’s Office of Economic Development. The 50+ incubator companies that will be showcasing focus on Advanced Energy, Biotechnology, Cleantech, Mobile & IT, and companies located in the Agriculture Consumer Science Center at Calverton. Supported and nurtured, incubator companies will seed future job growth on Long Island and New York State.
Invited speaker, Brian Keil, Managing Director, New York Ventures, Empire State Development will give closing remarks. New York Ventures administers the State’s innovation investment funds, providing equity investment capital to early-stage technology-based businesses through direct investments and fund-of-funds.
SBU’s Office of Economic Development links the academic and research resources of the campus with the economic needs of Long Island and New York State. Through the extensive incubation program offered at the many Economic Development facilities, innovative-driven companies are given the opportunity of intangible benefits of mentorship, advice, expertise, practical training on idea-pitching and fundraising, and templates for successful business practices.
The Office of Economic Development is comprised of two New York State Centers of Excellence: the Advanced Energy Center (AERTC) and Wireless and Information Technology Center (CEWIT); three New York State Centers for Advanced Technology (CATs): Center for BioTechnology (BioCAT),
Center for Diagnostic Tools and Sensor Systems (Sensor CAT) and the Center for Integrated Electric Energy Systems (CIEES CAT). Additional Economic Development incubator space is found at the Long Island High Tech Incubator (LIHTI), the Business Incubator at Calverton, the Clean Energy Business Incubation Program (CEBIP) and Incubator Without Walls. Other Economic Development programs that support industry on Long Island include the New York State Small Business Development Center (SBDC), the SPIR program (Strategic Partnership for Industrial Resurgence) and our newest program for manufacturers, the Manufacturing and Technology Resource Consortium (Federal MEP program).
SBU Economic Development’s cumulative results include more than 3,500 projects completed with more than 500 companies, creating and retaining over 19,000 jobs, and helping company partners win more than $1 billion in competitive Federal and State awards.
Thank you for your continued interest and support. We hope you will enjoy learning about some of our future companies, and better understand that with these start-up and early stage companies lay the foundation of our future.
Regards,Yacov ShamashVice President for Economic DevelopmentStony Brook University
