INTRODUCTIONWelcome to the ‘Heritage Insurance Classics at the Castle’ 12th annual show at Sherborne Castle. All profits from the show are now donated to charity and last year a total of £15,000 was raised. This year the Rotary Clubs of Yeo Vale and Sherborne Castles have nominated Cancer Research UK as the prime beneficiary with 20% being distributed to local charities. More than 1,500 fabulous cars are expected to be on display. Lotus is the featured marque this year with sponsorship by Westover Sports Cars of Poole who will be showing the current range of cars including the fabulous new ‘EVORA 400’. The display will be highlighted by the famous Lotus 49, kindly loaned by the National Motor Museum Beaulieu - an F1 racing car designed by Colin Chapman and Maurice Philippe for the 1967 season. It was built around the Cosworth DFV engine that would power most of the F1 grid through the 1970s. Jim Clark won on the car’s debut in 1967, and it would also provide him with the last win of his career in 1968. The feature includes examples of road cars manufactured by Lotus from 1957 to 2015 together with many of their competition cars from the Mark 6 of 1954 to the type 101 F1 ‘Camel’ liveried car of 1989.Regarded as the premier classics and supercar show in the Southwest, amongst the exceptional vehicles expected are: the famous Isotta Fraschini Fiat 1905 race car, the unique Bertone Aston Martin shooting brake and classic Aston Martin competition cars, two fabulous Jaguar supercars - XJ220 and XJR-15, the very futuristic Electric Volkswagen XL1 and a superb selection of supercars. This year in a brand new dedicated location we have a great selection of American cars, Custom and Hot Rods reflecting the growing interest in this section. There are race and rally cars, as well as a collection of dragsters, which will be fired-up, producing awesome noise! Traditional at this event is the arrival of car tours in front of the Castle. This year, again will see the arrival of up to 30 Lamborghinis and Aston Martins staged by prestige car dealer H R Owen of Pangbourne and Cheltenham. Once again this year members of the on-line car club PistonHeads have organised a sports and supercar run to finish at the Castle – some 30+ very exciting and exceptional cars are expected to take part. A first for ‘Classics at the Castle’ is the Bloodhound Supersonic Car simulator, try reaching 1000mph on four wheels and then visit the Angelic Bulldog Motorcycle project to see the 400mph two wheel land speed record contender. A host of motor club stands with member’s cars including more than 80 Aston Martins, Porsches and Ferraris, trade stands, auto-jumble, children’s area, craft fair and models display, all add to the spectacle and interest of this great show. Sherborne based auctioneers Charterhouse will be staging their ‘Classic Vehicle Auction’ with some exciting lots to whet your appetite including the 1922 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost which featured in the Robert Redford film version of ‘The Great Gatsby’ and three American Edsel convertibles, a Ford Division car only produced from 1958 to 1960 and named after Edsel B Ford son of the Companies founder.Your valued attendance is helping to raise funds for the chosen charities, and ‘Yeo Vale’ & ‘Sherborne Castles’ Rotary Clubs thank you for your support. Please put next years’ show date in you diary 17th July 2016 for another stunning event….Nigel Young - Chairman ‘Classics at the Castle’Please Note: ‘Classics at the Castle’ shall not be liable for any negligent act of omission or breach of contract by any third parties providing goods or services at the show.
