What is Resource?

• A resource is the person(s), equipment, or materials used to complete a task in a project.

• The Resource Sheet is commonly used for entering the resources.

• The Resource Information dialog box is a comprehensive collection of all of the data stored for a single resource.

• You can make changes to:– Email– Notes– Resource Availability Dates– Holidays– Costs– And many more!

Over Allocation

• Over Allocation is when a project calls for more time than a team member has.

• Over Allocation can be solved by number of ways for example:– Changing the relationships i.e. (SS, FS, SF, FF)– Changing lag to “zero” or change it to lead – Changing working time– Changing Units – Adding extra overtime hours to that particular

resource

Shortening Critical Paths

• Critical Path– the critical path is the sequence of tasks that is

nothing but back-to-back work, with no slack, which you can subtract to reduce the duration

• How to shorten the Critical Path

– Adding more resources– Changing relationship type

• Either you want to interrupt some work with an other (By You)

• Or by leveling the resource to maintain the work balance (By the system) Split Button

Baseline

• The baseline is nothing else than a frozen picture of your project at a certain point time.

• In Microsoft Project 2007 you are able to have up to 11 different baselines in a project.

• You should only re-baseline when you have major changes in your project such as; delays, overrun of budget or loss of key resources.
