Let’s partyThe type of reception planned and the number of guests invited usually govern the choice of venue. The venue can create the perfect backdrop for the overall theme of the ceremony and reception. There is a wide choice to blend in with your taste - intimate or elaborate, rustic or elegant and stylish. Which ever your choice, it will contribute to a memorable occasion.

THE VENUE

Home wedding: This is an ideal venue for an intimate, laid back, small or informal gathering. This type of reception requires careful planning and personal input. Ensure there is sufficient space for both guests and cars. Provide protection such as a hired marquee in case of rain. A tidy, level garden is required if the sitting is outside. Enlist extra domestic help and allocate specific tasks to family and friends.

Hired hall: This goes down well in the case of a formal reception involving a large number of guests. A hall requires a lot more effort to decorate and personalise. Check lighting available - type, plug points, etc. You will need to book caters, a DJ or life band and make sure whether the facilities at the venue are sufficient for these needs. These venues usually have adequate parking, however enquire about hiring car guards for the duration of the reception.

Hotel, Country Club or Restaurant: Any of these are suitable for a formal, intimate or elaborate reception. You will definitely cut out a lot of stress with a huge amount of the organization taken care of and time and energy spent on details minimised. This leaves you to cover the finer specific points such as availability of a microphone, or the decision around the master of ceremonies. A public place is not always suitable for personalised decorations, colour of the room may not blend in with the wedding colours and privacy may be a problem.

These days it is possible to host the ceremony at the same venue as the reception as a number of venues have chapels or gazebos and provide a complete wedding service. This simplifies traveling and time for the bridal party and guests. Early booking is essential to prevent disappointment.

CHOOSING A CATERER: Keep the following points in mind when hiring a professional caterer: Obtain recommendation from a reputable source. Get a complete quotation and make sure there are no hidden costs and enquire about special package offers. Discuss the various menus. Visit the caterers' premises to ensure that all special requirements can be met. Remember to check whether the venue for the reception has a kitchen available to your caterers. Your booking will be secure if a deposit is made.

TOASTS AND SPEECHES: The choice of how many toasts you have and who says them is ultimately up to you. At the very least however, include a toast to the bride and groom. The master of ceremonies should be a confident speaker. He will announce each speaker and help to lead the toasts, announce the cutting of the cake, the throwing of the garter and bouquet and generally keep everything moving smoothly.

The bride's father welcomes the guests, says how pleased he is to have the groom as a son-in-law, and congratulates the couple. He can also toast the bridal couple. The bridegroom responds and thanks his new father-in-law. He thanks the guests for coming, his new in-laws (or any other hosts) and all those involved in the wedding arrangements. He also says a few (complimentary) words about the bride before toasting her.

The best man reads out telegrams and wishes from absent friends. He will often tell some choice stories about the groom, and usually toasts the bridesmaids.

CUTTING THE CAKE: The bride and groom cut the cake together with the bride holding the knife and the groom’s hand over hers - this usually takes place after the speeches and toasts. The first slice of cake is divided between the bridal pair and they eat this together. The rest of the cake is then served to the bridal party and guests.

DANCING: Ensure the dance floor is not to highly polished as guests may slip. The bridal couple starts the dancing with their special song. They are then joint by their parents and then the rest of the bridal party. After this, the rest of the guests are free to take part in the dancing.

This is where it all starts! Your wedding and engagement rings are items of jewellery you'll be wearing all day, everyday, for a good many years, so it must fit in with your personality, lifestyle and your dress code. The circle of a ring symbolises the sun, earth and universe, as well as wholeness. As a ring has no beginning and no end, it is a symbol of endless love and unity.

ORIGINS AND TRADITIONS: The ancients Egyptians believe that the vein that runs through the third finger on the left hand is connect directly to the heart. This vein was called the vena amoris or vein of love, by the Romans. POINTS TO PONDER: Popularity polls place the diamond on the top of the list when choosing an engagement ring, although birthstones run a close second. The diamonds' mystique sets it apart from all other precious stones. Some brides however do prefer their birthstone in a setting enhanced with diamonds. The traditional metal for engagement and wedding rings are yellow gold. White gold, platinum and even silver make for interesting alternatives. Go to a reputable jeweller - preferably on the recommendation of someone you trust. Take time when choosing - a beautiful diamond in a bad setting will not be the ring of

your dreams. If you decide to engrave the rings, make sure you do it well in advance before the big

day. Ensure the jeweller gives you a valuation certificate for insurance purposes. Last, but definitely not the least, don't forget to insure your precious engagement and

wedding bands.

Various gemstones that can be incorporated in an engagement ringSome brides choose their birthstone or favourite gemstone in a setting enhanced with diamonds. Garnet, the birthstone of January, is regarded to symbolize eternal friendship. The

garnet is a semi-transparent, dark red gemstone. According to biblical folklore, amethyst - a February birthstone, is a symbol of

faithfulness and sincerity. This gem is a clear purple or bluish violet quartz widely used in various types of jewellery.

Aquamarine, the March birthstone is a transparent blue, bluegreen, or green gemstone. It is said to symbolize intelligence and courage.

Diamonds, the birthstone of April, are believed to protect the wearer from evil spirits and represent innocence and matrimonial happiness. While most diamonds appear colourless, others offer a hint of color ranging from a soft blue to light yellow.

Emerald, the birthstone of May is a symbol of domestic harmony and success in love. This gem is a transparent green stone.

The pearl is said to reflect health and longevity, and is the birthstone of June. The July birthstone, a red corundum, is the symbol of love and contentment. Legend suggests that a ruby engagement ring will darken in colour if the course of

true love is not running smoothly. The sardonyx, the birthstone of August, is a white-and-brown variety of the onyx. The sapphire is said to bring its wearer good health and good fortune. The birthstone

for September represents truth and faithfulness. This gemstone is from the same family as the ruby, but is rich blue in colour.

The opal, an October birthstone, symbolizes hope. This gem is often marked with an iridescent mixture of colours against a soft, milky white ground or a vivid, fiery ground.

Fidelity is expressed in topaz - a November birthstone, which is a yellow to yellow-rown transparent gemstone.

Turquoise, a blue, bluish-green, or green gem is the December birthstone. It is said to represent prosperity.

Criteria to use in shopping for a diamond ringFinancial experts recommend that couples spend not more than three weeks' salary, or roughly 6 percent of annual income. On the other hand, the jewelry experts recommend that couples with limited finances at the time of their engagement can certainly reset the stone or add extra stones at a later date.

The diamond industry has identified the four C's - colour, clarity, cut, and carat weight to assist consumers in making educated purchases. The majority of diamonds do appear colourless, though there are many that contain a hint of colour. The Gemological Institute of America has a letter grading system for classifying the colour of diamonds, starting with D for the slightest blue tone and spanning the alphabet to Z for the yellow stones.

The clarity of a diamond refers to the number of internal flaws contained in the stone. Diamonds, the crystallized form of carbon, may contain some impurities that are often visible only by a jeweler's microscope. The cut of a diamond refers to the design of facets, including the round solitaire, marquise, oval, pear, and emerald. High quality diamonds reflect more light and appear to have a greater sparkle. The carat of a stone is a unit of weight for precious gems equal to 200 milligrams. There are 100 points to a carat. The average size of an engagement ring today is about .75 carat.

The planning of a wedding is supposed to be a happy, fun time, however the different people involved in the celebrations mean that there are bound to be disagreements. It's important to manage the expectations of those around you, but how do you make sure that you plan a day that will be the way you want it, while keeping everyone else happy?

If you're breaking from the traditional ways, you may be unprepared for the controversy it creates. Planning your special day without alienating or disappointing your friends and family can be more of a challenge than you think. Rule number one: Whose wedding is it anyway? Rule number two: It's everyone's wedding!

DO present a united front with your partner and agree that you will make planning decisions together. DON'T worry about the little things. In the long run, it won't matter whether the flowers in your bouquet perfectly matched your groom's buttonhole. The most important aspect of your wedding isn't in the details of the day, but in the love you share and the commitment you're making to each other.

TRADITIONSRING - symbolises deep everlasting love; DIAMONDS - enduring qualities; A WHITE WEDDING DRESS - symbol of purity; BELLS - rigging of wedding bells will drive out evil spirits; VEIL - signifies the protection of her husband; WEDDING CAKE - a fruitcake with all its rich ingredients symbolises wealth and prosperity and the knife cutting the cake signifies the new wife accepting her role as keeper of her husband’s household; BRIDAL MARCH - composed by Wagner was made fashionable by the English princess, Louise; BOUQUET - symbolic of the bride's good fortune and carried over to the maiden who caught it; WEDDING ATTIRE - Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue - a link to the past, the new wedding dress representing the bride’s new married life, helpful friends (what you borrow must be returned) and a compliment to the moon, which is the protector of all women; TOASTING - a French tradition; FLOWERS - fertility and joy; SHOWERING of confetti - to bless the couple's unity; THE NEW SURNAME - a Roman custom for the woman to take her husband's last name.

DUTIES AND OBLIGATIONSBRIDE AND GROOM - confer with clergyman and plan wedding service, draw up and send out invitations, engage photographer, make honeymoon plans.

BRIDE - organises décor at the church and reception venue, engages caterer and florist, chooses bridesmaids’ outfit, pays for groom's wedding ring and gift, bridesmaid's gift, personal stationery, hairdresser, cosmetics, manicure, going-way outfit.

GROOM - Pays for bride's engagement and wedding rings, gifts and bouquets, corsages / buttonholes for bridal party, marriage licence, legal expenses, liquor at reception, flowers for the bride and attendants, honeymoon reservations, purchase any travel tickets. Last, however the most important and maybe stressful of all - the Wedding Speech.

MOTHER OF THE BRIDE - organises reception, leave for church before bride, is last person to be seated at church.

FATHER OF THE BRIDE - provides reception, escorts bride to church, leads her up the aisle on right arm, stands on her left to give her away, replies to toast to parents.

PARENTS OF THE BRIDE - assist with arranging and paying for bride's gown and accessories, flowers for church and reception, invitations, catering, reception venue, wedding cake, transport for bride, photography, music.

PARENTS OF THE GROOM - Pay for the bachelors' party.

BEST MAN - organises bachelor's party, ensure groom's arrival at church on time, pays ceremony expenses for groom, pay for own attire, takes care of couple's luggage in going-away car, stand on groom's right hand side and presents ring, witness signing of register in vestry, may organise photographs, cutting of cake and introduce speakers, proposes toasts to bridesmaid, reads telegrams from unable to attend, returns groom's suit.

BRIDESMAID - arranges kitchen tea, pay for own gown, help with table seating, place cards, décor, gift suggestions, helps bride to dress in wedding gown and going-away outfit, stands behind bride to her left and holds her bouquet during ceremony, adjusts headpiece, re-arrange train, tidies gown for photography sessions, supervise flower girls, serves wedding cake, ensures wedding gifts delivered to reception venue are taken to couple's home and gown is safely stored.

Choosing a suitable metal for your dream jewellery(Info supplied by Heathorn’s Diamonds & Gold)If you are in the market for that perfect piece of hand made jewellery, but is unsure of which metal to use, the following useful tips might come in handy.

Gold (yellow/white): All mined gold is yellow in colour. Gold can be alloyed into different colours by mixing it with different metals. For example, gold mixed with copper will be reddish in colour, while white gold is alloyed with palladium.

The gold used in jewellery manufacturing in South Africa is usually 9 or 18 Carat gold. 18 Carat yellow gold means the gold content of the metal is 75% fine gold with 5% copper and 20% silver mixed into it. 9 Carat yellow gold is 37.5% fine gold and the rest is usually a mixture of copper, silver, nickel and tin. The 18 Carat yellow gold is slightly softer and has butter yellow gold colour. While the 9 Carat yellow gold is harder and not as bright yellow as the 18 Carat yellow gold.

Since all gold is yellow to start of with, the word “white” gold is a misnomer and should actually be referred to as “less” yellow gold. A poor quality white gold will be slightly yellow in colour and the best quality white gold, 18 Carat white gold with 16% palladium, has a slight greyish overtone. To make “white” gold appear to be truly “white” it has to be rhodium plated. Many believe that the colour of the rhodium plating is actually the colour of white gold.

Rhodium is a hard white metal that gives a white shiny lustre to the surface of the jewellery item. Rhodium plating is applied through electroplating to the surface of the metal and is usually only between 3 and 6 microns thick and usually only lasts between 6 months to 2 years depending on the wear and tear of the item.

Platinum: Platinum is the most durable of all the precious metals used in jewellery manufacturing. It is naturally white in colour, hypo allergenic and does not tarnish. It is very hard wearing and does not scratch easily. No rhodium plating is required. It is more expensive than your white and yellow gold metals and is more labour intensive in the manufacturing process, because of the metal's hardness.

Palladium: Palladium is part of the platinum group of metals, it has the same colour as platinum, is also hypo allergenic and does not tarnish, but is not as hard as platinum. Due to the colour, no rhodium plating is required. Palladium is used as an alternative to platinum, because it is less expensive.

ABIA 2011 Golden award winner: Best Service Provider-Free State

Winner 2011: Designer Bridal Dress of the year

Picture yourself walking down the aisle in the dress of your dreams and then wake up to the reality of making the right choice. This can be the most exciting shopping spree ever in your life, or the biggest nightmare. So many options! However do not despair your own dream of a dress awaits. It's not everyday you can dress like royalty and be the belle of the ball. As it will be not a small sum spend on this purchase, you should go shopping armed with advice.

POINTS TO REMEMBER WHEN CHOOSING YOUR WEDDING GOWN:If you are hiring a dress, book it well before the day. Allow plenty of time to shop around. One Saturday morning is not enough. Start at least five months prior to the wedding. Ensure that your outfit enhances your best features and hide any flaws. Make sure that whatever style your choose will give you the freedom to sit, stand and dance comfortably. Dress for the season. Dress to suite your height and weight. A professional will help you find a gown that's flattering to your body shape and size. Be aware that your dress will crease and crush slightly during the day, so take suitable precautions. For example in the car on the way to the ceremony, flip up the top layer and sit on your petticoat.

Whether you know what you want or are still deciding, you'll need the help of a reputable and professional salesperson or designer. The expert's purpose is to assist you in finding the dress you love, a dress in which you look absolute your best. Keep in mind, objectivity is not criticism.

Whether you shop for a dress or make use of a designer, wear make-up and bring shoes of a heel height similar to what you plan to wear at your wedding day. If possible style your hair as you plan to wear for that day.

Bring or wear appropriate undergarments such as a strapless bra, if you plan on an off-shoulder style or strapless dress. Investing in the right underwear is half the battle won. When fitting the garment here's what to watch for: the way the material falls; how the waistline feels; how the chest area fits; any

unattractive bulging; the stitching, embroidery and beading must be in good shape, with everything securely attached; look in a three-way mirror to view all angles and ask for a handheld mirror if necessary; speak up if you see anything you don't like, its you prerogative to have as many fittings as it takes to get the perfect fit.

VEIL OR HAT? The length of a veil can vary as can the material. Try soft voile, starched netting, or even lace. It can be fitted in your hair with flowers or even a tiara. Make sure your headdress is firmly anchored. Check that the front can be raised easily during the service. Some dresses look better with a hat. If you choose a hat and are not used to wearing one, practice wearing it for a few days first.

SHOES: The delicate shoes are now making a comeback and appear very elegant with the traditional wedding gown. Set aside a reasonable amount of time to look for shoes, as you'll probably have to hunt for the ideal pair. Buy comfortable shoes, as you will be wearing them for a long couple of hours on your wedding day and even have to dance the night away. If you are not use to high heels, opt for a flatter style or buy a flatter pair to wear during the reception. Check that the shoes are non-slip, or scratch the soles with sandpaper. If you can't find the right colour, you can have them dyed, or covered in the same material as your dress. Ensure that the bridesmaid bring along an extra pair of pantyhose.

THE BRIDAL PARTY: Bridesmaids and flower girls should decide in accordance with the bride on their outfits. Take into account that their dresses don’t overshadow that of the bride. They can be co-ordinated by using the same fabric throughout yet varying in style and colour. Mothers of the bride and groom should choose their attire in consultation with the bride to ensure that colours do not clash. Accessories such as hat and gloves should complement their outfits. Keep in mind no matter what the choice all the role players must choose with the theme and colours of the total wedding in mind.

language notebook and pen travel plugs / adaptors toiletries spare bag to store dirty clothing or for shopping scarf

Enjoy the memories!

Organization of a wedding - is hard work. It is certainly magic when two people exchange rings and say words of love to each other in front of relatives and friends. But the real magic starts from the honeymoon, when a newly married couple can finally devote all their time to each other and forget about pre-wedding stress.

Honeymoon - is a memory for life. Start searching for a perfect destination long in advance. Work out your budget and choose a reputable travel consultancy to do all the work, while you are busy with the preparations for your wedding...

And here we go! The time flew, and you are standing at the altar as newly married husband and wife. A long, but full of excitement party night is still ahead, but in your mind you are already on a way to the destination of your dreams.

This is what you've been waiting for a long time; so don't spoil it by forgetting your passport on a bed side table or your favourite shoes in the wardrobe. Take a deep breath, relax and make sure you are hundred percent ready for the holiday of your dreams. Here are just a few points you should remember when you are going on a honeymoon trip: Make sure you have valid passports and visas, if necessary, packed in your

handbags. Familiarize yourself with local laws and customs of the country you are traveling to.

Your travel consultancy will be glad to provide you with all the information needed. Pack only necessary clothes you might use during your trip, don't overload your

luggage. Remember, you will carry it yourself. If you are visiting exotic countries, make sure you have got all the necessary

vaccinations. You will be advised by your travel consultancy on this matter.

That's it! Lock your house and take off!Enjoy it, and remember this magic for the rest of your life.

The words of a certain old song, "Get me to the church on time", still apply very particularly to the bride and very definitely to the groom - the event obviously cannot proceed without the main characters of the story!

Traditionally, the main car carries the bride and her father to the church. A second car takes the bride's mother and perhaps the bridesmaids, while a third is for the groom and best man. After the church ceremony the bride and groom are driven off for photographs or directly to the reception in the main car, with her parents in the second car and bridesmaids and groomsmen in the third.

You also have a host of other ways of transport - the sky is the limit. If your budget allows it, consider a helicopter or a horse and carriage, a variety of vintage cars, bicycles made for two, a tractor if the wedding is on a farm, a 4x4 on a Game Farm or a romantic boat trip to an island wedding.

GETTING INTO GEAR Due to the demand for elegant hired cars, it is wise to book the vehicle well in

advance. Always specify details such as pick-up points to be used and number of passengers

to be accommodated. Drivers should know the exact location of church and reception venue, time

expected, names of those required transport. The route should be investigated beforehand, in similar traffic conditions to those

likely to happen on the day itself. Remember to have available a supply of ribbon to decorate the bridal cars.

The magic of this momentous day needs to be recorded in a photo album, video production or CD collection. It can be a cherished reminder, something that will be shown with pride to children and grandchildren. Quality is essential, experience and creativity making for pictures that are original.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT PHOTOGRAPHERYou've dreamed of it for years, you've planned it for months and then your wedding day arrives and flies by in a blur! That's why it is so important for you to have great professional wedding pictures.

Locating and hiring a good photographer to capture your special day will require some work on your part but with these tips you can have beautiful pictures that capture your wedding day in all its glory.

The first thing to do is to call and arrange an appointment to meet with the photographer and view samples of his / her work. Some studios employ several photographers and it's important to meet the actual photographer allocated to you and see his / her work before signing any contracts or agreements.

The next step is to visit at least three studios and compare quality. Photographer's styles can range from traditional colour- more posed images, to the newest trend, Black and White Photojournalistic looking images. Be sure to ask about number of hours included in the price, if there is an extra charge for the album itself and overtime charges. Get all the information in writing including the time the photographer is to arrive and the time they are to leave. Don't assume they will stay to the end. As you hop in your limo, the photographer could have left hours earlier!

You want to find someone that you feel comfortable with. Personality plays a major part of how well the photographs will turn out. Remember you will be spending a large amount of time with this person and the last thing you want is someone who is unpleasant. Also ask about reorder prices. That is what extra portraits will cost should you decide to add more portraits to your album, or want or need extra prints for your family and friends.

You should plan on spending about 20% of your wedding budget on the photography. After all, it is all that will be left after your wedding day is over. You and your husbands' wedding album will become an heirloom and something that you will want to pass down to your children and their children's children. Be very careful... horror stories have happened when couples let a relative or a friend photograph their wedding, or have chosen the cheapest photographer.

It takes a trained professional to juggle all the elements of a wedding day. You will never regret hiring a professional, just follow the above steps and you should wind up with a beautiful wedding album, featuring all the love, beauty and romance of your special day.

PHOTO TIPS FOR WEDDING GUESTSWhile most couples hire a professional photographer to photograph the ceremony and reception, there's still plenty of room for you to also capture your perspective of this joyous occasion on film. There are lots of moments that happen among the guests that will never be captured by the professional wedding photographer. Stay out of the pro's way. He or she has a big job to do. And, never shoot over the pro's shoulder. That won't be appreciated and could interfere with the job.

A COUPLE OF HINTS ON WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY ETIQUETTEIf you want to take photos at a church, synagogue, mosque or chapel, take your cues from the professional photographer hired by the bridal couple. If you see that he or she is not taking photos at the ceremony, chances are it is because the clergy told the photographer not to do so.

Respect the tradition and don't take pictures. The same thing holds true for flash photography. Some places of worship will allow it at the ceremony, others will not. If you see that the pro is shooting, then take an aisle seat. It's the best place to get nice close shots of the couple that fill the frame as they leave the church.

One other suggestion on wedding photography is to be respectful of the professional photographer. Don't get in that individual's way. You don't want to ruin the photos that the bride and groom are paying the pro to take, and the pro can do a better job of capturing many parts of the event than you can. As we've indicated, there are plenty of different kinds of shots for you too.

Give your photographer a list of the family and group photographs you want. Ensure that you reserve a seat and cater for the photographer and his / her assistant or partner for the evening.

A wedding is created with the focus on ambience and must appeal to all five senses. Music plays an integral roll. This is where the couple can express their individuality - string quartet music can be a soothing substitute for the traditional organ music during ceremonies of the church service.

A melody or lyrics with special personal meaning could remain the couple’s song in years to come. Setting the tone and spirit of the celebration, music during the ceremony should be uplifting and heart-warming, while at the reception pleasant soft background music and dance tunes take care of the entertainment.

MUSIC CHECKLIST Consult the clergyman about any restrictions in type of music and instruments

permitted at the service. A formal religious ritual lends itself to sacred, classical selections. The length of the aisle determines the duration of the processional music - it should overrun to give time for the bride to calm herself before the service begins.

Music at the reception should be appropriate for the type of wedding and the age grouping of the majority of guests. Soft background music using a string quartet / jazz trio / pianist during the dining part of the reception, while using a band / DJ / orchestra for the dance afterwards is recommended.

Look into the choice of a string quartet / band / DJ as soon as the wedding date has been set - visit them and listen to examples of their music selection before hiring their services.

The company chosen should be sensitive towards the couple’s needs - compile a list of special songs as requested to be played, and ensure that the band / DJ / orchestra is aware of the specific song to be played for the first dance.

Take care to position the band / DJ / string quartet correctly at the venue, not too close to the guests’ tables where the volume level may be undesirable.

The people engaged should be made aware of the required setup-time at the venue, the time of guests’ arrival, the number of guests and age groups covered, the expected duration of play, and any special requirements of the bridal party.

POINTS TO REMEMBER Plan ahead, way ahead. Why? The best mobile DJ’s book their dates six

months to a year in advance. If you don't book a great mobile DJ early, and lock in one of the best, what does that leave you with to choose from later on?

Shop for quality. Understand what “quality” in a mobile DJ service truly represents. Here, the idea is to generally see and evaluate mobile DJs in exactly the same light as you see and evaluate things like hotels, automobiles, home re-modelers, and doctors. Do not assume that all mobile DJ companies are alike. Do assume that high quality will cost more than low quality.

Realise the importance of the DJ to your wedding reception's success. Surveys report that happy brides consistently say that the DJ was most responsible for their wedding reception's success. Everybody will remember whether they had a good time or not.

Get to know your DJ personally before the wedding. Always request a personal meeting with the mobile DJ company owner AND with the specific DJ who'll be performing at your wedding reception. Get to know your DJ to ensure a good working relationship.

Insist on use of a pre-planned, written agenda. Most mobile DJs simply want to show up and play music. That may be fine for high school sock hops but not for wedding receptions. A truly professional mobile DJ company understands this, and will require advance planning with the bride, resulting in an approved written agenda for the event.

Get and check references. Talking to those who have worked with a company before is the best way to verify that the company does what it promises and does it well. Decide how many references to check, but the minimum should be five, and all should be from weddings within the past year.

Verify the “basics” of mobile DJ quality. First, does the company provide backup equipment on site? Second, is the company insured for property loss and liability? Third, does the company have an adequate and appropriate music library? Fourth, will the DJ(s) be attired appropriately? Fifth, will the DJ(s) be interactive, semi-interactive, or non-interactive according to your wishes? Sixth, will the DJ(s) manage the music effectively, reading the crowd, taking requests, and avoiding songs with potentially offensive lyrics? Seventh, does the company offer additional options/services such as secondary sound systems, wedding music and coordination, and nightclub-style lighting?

Ensure that your vision of your wedding day becomes reality. If those happy brides are even close to right that the entertainment was 70% responsible for their wedding reception's success, then it appears that the DJ's responsibility goes quite a bit further than “just playing music.” The best ones take mobile DJ entertainment from a job to an art. Don't try to use only your leftover time, and try to spend only your leftover money, or you'll probably end up with a leftover DJ.

Dance the night awayTake a few dancelessons on your

very own specialsong, and makeyour first dance

one to remember!

Looks to die forA balance basis of health and beauty care, resulting in a sense of well-being, builds up self-confidence and poise. Every bride can look really stunning from top to toe on her wedding day … by affirming the positive, improving her self-image, and simply by being herself!

Well balanced nutrition, effective exercising, and body products that tone, smooth and protect the skin are all part of the plan. Consistent care can ensure a finer texture, with reduction of large pores and less blotchiness, making for a good foundation for any make-up application. The hairstyle chosen for the wedding day should complement the dress and veil, as well as the time of the big event. The following are some basic suggestions to help the future bride acquire that image of perfection.

‘Crowning glory’ of the HAIR An asymmetrical hairstyle can be flattering for a longish face, creating height. Sweeping the hair to one side can create the illusion of widening the bone structure and top portion

of the face.

Take care of NAILS To remove nail polish that has smudged onto skin, dab with a cotton bud saturated with nail polish

remover. Lubricate ragged cuticles with lip ice or soak fingernails in an few drops of mineral, baby or vitamin

E oil.

DO’s A relaxing aroma therapy massage does wonders for pre-wedding nerves - aromatic essential oils

are specially selected and, applied with a unique touch therapy, allow you to benefit fully. A perfect personal perfume, along with matching bath oils and body creams, will establish

individuality. Keep facial skin cleansed, toned and moisturised, using products specially formulated for your

particular skin type. Lip colour should complement clothing and nail colour. Take steps early to repair, style and shape hair, using a gentle shampoo and conditioner that suits

hair type and ensures volume and shine. Do have a professional facial, which deep cleanses and brings the complexion to optimum

condition. Confide in a professional hairdresser and have a trial run to ensure that the style can handle

positioning of the veil and will remain intact.

DON’Ts Don’t experiment with new treatments just before the wedding. Don’t go on a crash diet, you will only loose water - not fat. Avoid too-dark facial foundation. Lack of sleep, strict dieting and stress affect condition of the hair. If the veil is elaborate, don’t use floral embellishments. For home manicures or pedicures, don’t fail to set aside sufficient time to do a really careful job. Don’t have your hair coloured just before the big day.

When 2 becomes 1Deciding on the marital regime that will be applicable to your marriage is one of the most important decisions you and your partner will have to make before your wedding. As a result it is important to ensure that you are fully informed in order to make the best decision for you as a couple.

Why do you need an Antenuptial Contract?

In South Africa the legal position is that all marriages are "in community of property" unless the couple registers an antenuptial contract.

This means the couple will share equally in all assets gained by them during their married life together, but it also means that they will share all debts made by their partner equally.

In order to avoid the negative effects of a marriage in community of property, couples can register an antenuptial contract, with the result that, should one partner come to financial difficulty, the assets of the other will remain their own and safe from creditors, and that partner will be able to provide for the family financially until the other partner is back on his or her feet.

Thus contrary to public belief the most important reason to register an antenuptial contract is not necessarily the possibility of a divorce later on, but to grant the couple the security of knowing they can rely on each other in times of financial need.

What are your options? Should you choose to register an antenuptial agreement, and thus marry "Out of community of property" there are two options you can choose from:

Option 1: Out of Community of Property - With the Accrual System This is the route we generally advise couples to follow if no special circumstances exits to dictate otherwise. The accrual system is a good way for couples to ensure a sense of fairness and equality to a marriage by making sure that each party will share equally in the growth in wealth gathered by the couple during their union, while still gaining the protection of a marriage out of community of property.

In modern South Africa it is common that one partner will stay at home and carry on the household in order to enable the other partner to work and gain assets, or for one partner to assist in the business of the other without receiving a salary to enable the business owner to make more profit for the household. The accrual system is there to ensure that the couple shares equally in the wealth they gathered as a team.

In this case your antenuptial agreement will ensure that your assets and liabilities will remain entirely separate from those of your partner during the course of your married lives together, and only upon termination of your union by means of death of a partner, or by divorce, will the accrual system come into play.

Option 2: Out of Community of Property - Without Accrual System In this case your antenuptial agreement will ensure that all the assets and liabilities of each partner will remain entirely separate during the course of their married lives together, as well as upon termination of the Union. Each party will leave the union with all their own assets and liabilities.

This course of action is generally only advised to older couples who are not getting married for the first time and have maybe suffered a painful divorce or for couples where the one partner owns a vast amount of assets.Remember you as a couple must make the decision of the correct marital regime together, in order to have a happy and financially secure married life!

CHOICESFriends and relatives may be advised of requirements by use of handy gift registers I bureaus offered by several department stores and gift shops. A list compiled by bride I bridesmaid not only ensures the couple receives requested items, but also avoid duplications. In this way a couple who has already set up home together can receive items of particular and personal interest.

Memento's may in turn be supplied for guests - net posies filled with sugared almonds are popular, as well as book matches printed with the names and date.

BRIDAL SHOWERSA kitchen tea is an old-fashioned custom which can assist the couple in setting up their new home. Arranged and hosted by the chief bridesmaid and held a week or two before the wedding, it is attended by female friends and relatives of the bride, with a great time had by all!

Gifts may range from a humble egg timer to an expensive set of cookware. In the case of a linen shower, the bride should inform the hostess of her colour scheme. A cellar shower (to which male guests may be invited) stocks the bar for the couple, suitable gifts being anything from a corkscrew to a bottle of vintage wine. A pantry shower stocks the bride's pantry with canned or bottled gourmet food, imported wines and cheeses, gourmet coffees, spices, nuts and biscuits are typical selections.

The male equivalent of the bridal shower is the ever-popular stag party, and many future brides in turn are opting to have a 'last fling' at one of the many exciting venues which provide entertainment for ladies only.

Your wedding just wouldn't be the same without flowers. Flowers play a central role in the wedding, from the shower of petals that greets the bride and groom as they leave the ceremony, to the beautiful arrangements that decorate the venue. In fact, whether you choose a large and lavish or simple and stylish decor, flowers maybe all you need to brighten up the event. There are four basic needs for your wedding. Your very special bouquet, bouquets for the bridesmaids and flower girls, corsages for the rest of the bridal party and parents, large arrangement for the ceremony and table arrangements for the reception.

THE MEANING OF FLOWERSFlowers, always a symbol of fertility, "say it all" and combinations can speak an entire sentence instead of merely one thought:

LOVE - roses, carnations, forget-me-not, ivy, myrtle, rosemary; HOPE - almond blossoms, snowdrops; CONSTANCY - bluebells; DEVOTION - honeysuckle;LOYALTY - rosemary; TRUTH - chrysanthemum; INNOCENCE - white daisies;PURITY - white lilies; JOY - daffodils, gardenias; HAPPINESS - lily of the valley;PURITY & FERTILITY - orange blossoms; RICHES - wheat stalks; BEAUTY,LOVELINESS, GRACE - hibiscus, camellia, jasmine; FRIENDSHIP - geraniums;GOOD FORTUNE - apple blossoms; FAITHFULNESS - blue violets;GENEROSITY -gladiolus; WISDOM - iris; NOBILITY - magnolia; BEAUTY - orchid.

A single rose in any colour stands for simplicity, while a full bloom means "I Love You",and rosebuds are a symbol of beauty and youth. Two roses taped together to form a single stem means an engagement or coming of a marriage. The stem leaves are a symbol of hope. Even the colour of each rose has a special meaning:RED - "I love you"; WHITE - purity; RED & WHITE - unity; YELLOW - joy, gladnessRED & YELLOW-happy feelings; PINK-grace; ORANGE - desire

BOUQUETS, CORSAGES and BUTTONHOLESWhen choosing a bouquet, bear in mind the style of your dress, as well as your height and build. Bridesmaids generally hold smaller bouquets, while flower girls are often happier carrying flower baskets. The mothers of the bride and groom wear corsages, while men in the bridal party need buttonholes.

HAIR: Flowers may also be worn in the hair, instead of a hat or headdress and veil. Choose delicate flowers and don't go overboard. Flowers in your hair will wilt fast, as they have no water to revive them.

CEREMONY: In addition to a large arrangement in the front, consider small posies on the ends of pews or rows of seats. Camouflage any unsightly pillars by draping them with ivy. Consider using the same flowers from the ceremony to decorate the reception. After all, why spend a fortune on two sets of very similar flowers? If you plan the arrangements so they are easy to transport you can simply ask someone to be responsible for getting them from one venue to the other, thereby saving some money.
