As the sole worldwide manufacturer of both air conditioning equipment and refrigerants, Daikin is continuously researching refrigerants as well as new technologies that can reduce energy consumption. Use of refrigerants with a lower impact on global warming is urgently required as climate change has become one of the most critical global issues. Daikin has now adopted R-32. This next-generation refrigerant does not deplete the ozone layer and has a lower impact on global warming.
The ozone layer surrounds the Earth and helps to absorb the harmful ultraviolet rays in sunlight. Although R-22 (HCFC) refrigerant had been used in air conditioners and refrigerators, it damages the ozone layer and its use is to be mostly elimi-nated by 2020. To replace R-22, Taiwan, Japan and European countries with more progressive regulations selected R-410A (HFC).
The Earth retains solar heat in the daytime for warming and then releases this heat at night, allowing it to maintain an optimal temperature range. However, with greenhouse gases increas-ing, it is more difficult to discharge heat and the planet is gradually becoming warmer. This is called global warming. R-32 has only around 30% of the global warming potential of R-410A and R-22.
The existing piping has:• no exterior damage• appropriate external/internal diameters• appropriate piping wall thickness• separate insulation for liquid and gas pipes.
The existing piping cannot be used. New piping is required.
Note: 1. Global warming potential values are based on the Fourth Assessment Report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
Greenhouse gases cause damage which allows solar radiation to pass through the Earth’s outer atmosphere while also trapping infrared radiation. These gases rapidly increase and interfere with the Earth’s ability to release heat into space, causing the ambient temperature to rise.

LandSea

The potential refrigerating effect of R-32 is 1.5 times that of R-410A. Thus the piping diameter can be smaller.

Reuse of Existing Piping Next-Generation R-32 Refrigerant
Increased Energy Efficiency
Zero Ozone Layer Depletion
Replacement from R-22
Less Impact on Global Warming
You can reuse the existing piping when replacing a system that uses R-22/R-410A refrigerant with a new Daikin R-32 model. The piping can be changed over without cleaning up to its maximum length. This allows a Daikin air conditioner using R-32 refrigerant to be installed smoothly even with built-in piping.
Notes for Installation• Reuse depends on the oil stains that remain inside the existing
refrigerant piping. If the inside is extremely dirty, it is necessary to clean or replace the piping.
• Please perform pump-down cooling operation when removing the existing air conditioner. This takes 15 minutes for 2.5 to 7.1 kW models.
• If you have any enquiries, please contact your local distributor and/or retailer.
Smooth Replacement of Air Conditioners
16
The old air conditioner can perform pump-down cooling operation.
Recover the refrigerant using the appropriate equipment.
After performing pump-down cooling operation*1, close the liquid and gas stop valves.
Abrasion powder (iron powder, etc.) remains in the oil. Cleaning of the pipes is required.
Remove the old air conditioner.
Perform flare connection for R-32 using the flare nut supplied with the new air conditioner.
The new air conditioner can be installed with the existing refrigerant piping.

Refrigerant Flow during Cooling
Inverter air conditioners vary their capacity by adjust-ing the rotation speed of their compressors. In contrast, non-inverter models have a fixed capacity and can only control the room temperature by starting or stopping their compressors.
Inverter models operate at maximum capacity (100% load) to quickly reach the set temperature. They then reduce operation to low capacity (partial load), which is sufficient to maintain the set temperature. This allows inverter models to operate at low capacity (partial load) most of the time.
Inverter models finely adjust their capacity according to the heat load, minimising the difference between the set temperature and room temperature. This ensures higher comfort levels than with non-inverter models.
With the FTXV series, the set temperature can be changed in 0.5˚C steps. This precise control allows you to finely adjust the temperature to suit your personal comfort level.

Inverters are devices that are able to vary their capacity by adjusting operating frequency. This allows inverter air condi-tioners to cut electricity use compared to non-inverter models. An inverter system can help to noticeably reduce household power bills.
If you select Auto Fan Speed, your inverter air conditioner will operate at maximum efficiency without any further setting. It will not start and stop its compressor to maintain the room temperature. You can also go out of the room for a short time without any worries.

Similar Mechanism to Human BodyAn air conditioner functions in a surpris-ingly similar way to the human body. In the body, blood carries heat as it circulates and helps to release excess heat through sweating. Refrigerant also carries heat and helps to adjust tempera-ture through heat exchange.
Effective Release of HeatRefrigerant is changed from gas to liquid in the outdoor heat exchanger, after which it is evaporated in the indoor heat exchanger. During cooling operation, cool air is discharged from the indoor unit while heat is removed from the air taken in from inside the room. This heat is delivered to the outdoor unit and released.
Refrigerants: Heat Release in Air Conditioning Systems
Note: 1. Global warming potential values are based on the Fourth Assessment Report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
The potential refrigerating effect of R-32 is 1.5 times that of R-410A. Thus the piping diameter can be smaller.

The FTXV series achieves CSPFs of 4.65 to 6.35 thanks to Daikin’s DC Inverter control and next-generation R-32 refrigerant. For this series, all models have earned Vietnam’s highest Grade 5 energy efficiency rating.
CSPF (cooling seasonal performance factor) is the annual operating efficiency of an air conditioner under conditions close to actual conditions for specific applications (buildings, etc.) and operating periods.
It represents the integral cooling capacity per kilowatt hour of power consumption for an air conditioner that operates under fixed conditions throughout the year.
What Is CSPF?
DC Inverter ControlDC Inverter is Daikin’s term for an inverter air conditioner equipped with a DC motor. These motors use magnets to generate rotation, making them more efficient than AC motors. Daikin has fitted its advanced DC motors for compressors and fan motors with powerful neodymium magnets to achieve even greater efficiency. It calls these devices Reluctance DC motors.
Reluctance DC Motor for Compressors
The compressor is one of an air conditioner’s core components and its performance is directly linked to the motor. Daikin was the first to successfully use a Reluctance DC motor with a scroll compressor in commercial-use air conditioners2. It has now adapted this high-efficiency motor for the swing compressors in its residential-use systems. The Reluctance DC motor saves energy by generating more power with a smaller electric current than AC or conventional DC motors.
Swing CompressorWith its smooth rotation, the swing compressor significantly decreases friction and vibration. It also eliminates the leakage of refrigerant gas during compression. These advantages provide quiet and efficient operation.
The high performance of this Daikin original technology was recognised in 1997 with the receipt of an award from the Japan Society for the Promotion of the Machine Industry1. The compressor’s reputation for reliability has grown considerably in the nearly 20 years since this award was presented.
Embedding high-strength neodymium magnets in the shaft turns the entire centre of the motor into a powerful magnet. By rapidly switching the poles of this electromagnet, the Reluctance DC motor is able to produce even greater speed and power.

You can also go out of the

Photocatalytic Air Purifying
Titanium Apatite Photocatalytic Air-Purifying Filter
The outdoor unit’s heat exchanger fins are processed using a special anti-corrosion treatment. The surface is covered with a thin acrylic resin layer to provide enhanced resis-tance to acid rain and salt corrosion.
Anti-Corrosion Treatment of Outdoor Heat Exchanger Fins
Photocatalytic air purifying is a deodorising and antibacterial technology. Daikin was the first to apply this advance to the air-purifying filters used in air conditioners1. Daikin’s success has led manufacturers in various industries to adopt the technology for antibacterial products.
Titanium apatite is an advanced photocatalytic material with great adsorption power. While a filter’s micron-level fibres trap dust, titanium apatite effectively adsorbs and decomposes bacteria. The photocatalyst is activated simply by exposure to light. This filter delivers consistent performance for approximately three years if it is washed with water once every six months.
This filter is not a medical device. Benefits such as the adsorption and decomposition of bacteria are only effective for substances which are directly attached to the Titanium Apatite Photocatalytic Air-Purifying Filter.

Horizontal Auto-Swing automatically moves the louvers to the left and right to cover a room with cool or warm air.
This function combines Vertical and Horizontal Auto-Swing to circulate a cloud of cool or warm air right to the corners of even large spaces. The flaps and louvers swing in turn.
Horizontal Auto-Swing (left and right)

Even when an air conditioner is not operating, it requires standby power. However, thanks to this function, the required standby power can be reduced.
Standby Electricity Saving
See page 26
See pages 27 and 28
Count Up-Down On/Off TimerThe operation start and stop times can be set with the touch of a single button and preset for a period of one to 12 hours in one hour increments. When the Off Timer is set, Night Set Mode is activated automatically.
Weekly TimerThe Weekly Timer allows up to four actions to be programmed foreach day of the week. It is possible to schedule not only the on andoff times, but also the desired temperatures during these periods. Thecopy function also makes the setting much easier and enables a dailyprogramme to be repeated on other days as required.
The backlit LCD allows easy operation in the dark. Frequently used functions are conveniently located on the front of the controller.
