Dear Friends, I hope your summer is off to a great start! When I started my career with the YMCA 35 years ago, summertime was thought of as down time. That’s not the case anymore. With summer camps, outdoor pools and splash pads, during this season we stay pretty busy. And, although our facility usage decreases, many of our members participate year round. Whatever time of year it is, we continuously look for opportunities to serve you better and try to find ways to impact the community. It is our goal that every interaction in our Y’s helps people transform into a better version of themselves. We work hard to make sure that we are making a difference in the lives of the people in the communities that we serve. Several weeks ago I had the opportunity to request a gift to the YMCA for three different projects we are working on which will increase our capacity to serve local communities. As I considered what we have done over the last 15 years, I truly believe the YMCA has been an organization where quality of life issues have been addressed and changed and I am proud of the staff, volunteers and donors who have made this possible. If you consider that we went from 9,000 members in 2000 to over 52,000 members today with programs and facilities for all ages, that’s transformation! If you consider that no one is turned away for the inability to pay and 20,000 additional people are able to participate because of our scholarship program, that’s transformational! If you consider that we are focused on helping people grow in spirit, mind and body through an array of experiences, that’s transformational. Another way the Y will continue to transform our community is through a brand new partnership with the AWS Foundation. One component of the partnership is that AWS is funding a new YMCA staff position that will focus on the special needs population; specifically people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Lydia Morris has been hired as the Director of Adaptive Services to lead this effort. The YMCA has been serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, but we can do more. I’m looking forward to the impactful work we will be able to do with this opportunity. We don’t always receive the funding we request for projects that will help us expand our programs and services. But a priority in my job is to make sure that we are out in the community doing work that improves the quality of life for people and making sure that funders know about how we are transforming the community. As always, thank you for being a member, a donor or both. I feel honored to serve you and our community. Sincerely,

AWARD WINNERS

The 24th Annual YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne Golf Outing, which took place on May 28 at Pine Valley Country Club, successfully raised almost $19,000 toward YMCA Camp Potawotami, the official resident camp of the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne.

The event was made possible by premiere sponsors, Source One Solutions and Indiana Signworks, a division of Indiana Stamp.

“We extend our sincere appreciation to the event sponsors, players and volunteers. It is through the support of these individuals and businesses that YMCA Camp Potawotami continues to grow and is able to provide our campers with the very best in activities and facilities,” said Patrick Kelly, District Executive Director of YMCA Camp Potawotami.

“Thank you for helping kids in our community gain confidence and learn about community while having fun at camp,” said Kelly.

Thank you to all who donated to the 2015 YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne Annual Campaign. Because of you we exceeded our association wide goal of $456,350 and raised $464,905. This year there were over 1,500 donations from individuals like you and the employers you represent. And that is good news because the need for financial assistance is ever present. 1 out of 5 people participating at our Y’s receive financial assistance for memberships or programs.

Thank you for your involvement in the annual campaign. You help us deliver on our promise not to turn anyone away due to the inability to pay.

ANNUAL CAMPAIGN WRAP-UP

THANK YOU!

One way the Y strengthens the community and promotes our mission is by holding an annual Christian Conference. This year’s theme, “Why Serve?”, and scripture verse, Galatians 5:15, reflect that when we are serving humbly in love, there is no limit to what God can accomplish through us. By empowering others with this belief we strengthen the foundation of the community as a whole.

The Fueling Your Faith Conference will be held on November 14th at The Summit and features great speakers, music, fellowship, and FUN! Check out our website for more information or to register now at fwymca.org! Questions? Contact [email protected].
