• Products below have different use rights for shared third party servers under License Mobility through Software Assurance:
SALs for SA
SAL for SA reported by
service provider under
SPLA
CAL with SA for qualifying
product, purchased by
end-customer under VL
Shared Applications
Comparing License Mobility and SALs for SA
∙ Example: Customer with SA desires hosted SharePoint solution
◉ License Mobility for SA
○ Customer needs both Server license(s), as well as CAL’s with SA
○ Customer deploys to the partner cloud; licenses may no longer be used on-premises
○ Partner licenses Windows Server, but not SharePoint
○ SharePoint application is dedicated to customer
○ Multitenant infrastructure, single-tenant app (and 90-day assignment rule)
◉ SAL for SA ○ Customer needs SP CAL’s with SA ○ Partner reports SP SAL’s for SA under SPLA ○ Customer receives hosted SharePoint Service
from partner ○ Partner is the licensee of SharePoint through
SPLA at lower price (Sal for SA) ○ Customer may continue using SharePoint
licenses on-premises ○ Multitenant infrastructure, multi-tenant app
