Monthly Insight Kimberly Hastings August 1, 2020.

August comes from the Latin word Augustus, meaning "consecrated" or

"venerable." In 8 B.C. Julius’ grandnephew, Augustus, defeated Marc An-

tony and Cleopatra, becoming the first Emperor of Rome. The Roman

Senate decided to honor him by changing the name of their sixth

month, Sextilis, to Augustus.

August 1st is a harvest holiday called “Lammas.” Lammas is celebrated as

a Christian holiday, but also has its roots in Pagan traditions. In the Chris-

tian holiday, Lammas is a way of welcoming the harvest. For Pagans and

Wiccans, Lammas is the first of three different harvest festivals, and a time

to celebrate Lugh, the Celtic god of skilled workers and craftsmen. They

celebrate this day by baking Lammas bread and having a feast. They’ll

also adorn their doors with symbols of the harvest season, such as corn

dolls and/or pentacles made of wheat. Harvest is a time to remember our

ancestors and the hard work they did to do to survive. No matter your reli-

gion, you can celebrate Lammas by giving thanks for the abundance in

our lives and the food on our tables. This is a time of transformation, re-

birth and new beginnings.

August birthstones are Peridot and Sardonyx. Peridot protects the aura and re-leases old baggage. Sardonyx helps attract friends and brings love to existing rela-

tionships, friendships and marriages. August’s birth flower is the Gladiolus and the Poppy. Leo rules until the 22nd, until Virgo takes over on the 23rd. Leo brings us the freedom we need to express ourselves fully. Virgo is healing and loyal energy,

helping us get through rough times.

Our thoughts effect our immune system.

The best way to improve your immune system is to

think positive. Yes, that’s right, thinking positive

can diminish stress on the body, and create a

healthier you. The University of Queensland

shows that older people who keep there focus on

being positive were more likely to have stronger

immune systems. Dr. Segerstorm at the University

of Kentucky researched that although some stress

can actually boost your immune system, over time,

it can break down and lower your immune system.

Keeping your focus on positive thoughts can send

positive responses to the body that promote your

immune system and relieves stress.

Ask yourself, "Do I think positive?" Try to identify

what makes you happy. Music always makes me

happy. I listen to anything that brings my vibration

up and makes me want to dance.

Working with the public can be challenging. Did

you know that you may be able to increase your

positivity just by memorizing a list of positive

words? At my store, we sell retail that helps with

emotional healing, and some of our customers are

overcoming emotional stress. They use my em-

ployees and I as a sounding board. Retail itself is

a tough business; customers can get upset over

things that are not in our control. So I use what I

call “The power of three.” That's when you come

up with three positive power words that you say to

yourself when the energy is low, or you feel like

someone is draining you. My three words are

"KINDNESS,” “LOVE,” and “STRENGTH.” Find

your 3 words and keep saying them until you feel

better.

If you are someone that takes everything person-

ally, then you are training your brain to become

negative. Positive thinking means that you ap-

proach unpleasantness more positively and pro-

ductively. Change the way you think and look at

the brighter side of the situation. Use the power of

three, and you feel so much better.

August, 2020 is a 3 universal month, the number of

creativity, imagination and self-expression. If you

have been putting off “me time” lately, this would be

the time to stop and enjoy what makes you happy.

Finish that book, take a painting class, etc. This is a

great time to do something creative, even if you

don’t feel that you are a creative person.

The 3 brings an essence of spontaneity. Most of us

are structured individuals and must always have

everything in order. This is the month to be adven-

turous! Take a road trip without a definite destina-

tion or learn a new skill that you have always want-

ed to try.

These past few months have been challenging for

all of us. With all the negativity going on in the

world, we may find it difficult to be positive. This

month, the Universe is helping us focus on the pos-

itive by challenging us to live in the moment.

Out of all the numbers, the 3 brings the most joy,

as it brings excitement and enthusiasm. It helps to remind us that sometimes laughter is the best med-icine. We are supposed to enjoy our time here and not take everything so seriously. Only then will we be able to fully enjoy what the world has to offer.

One of the names for the August full moon is “the sturgeon moon.” American Indian tribes named the moon this because

this was a good month to catch Sturgeon. This moon has a reddish haze. The wiccan name is “Hazel Moon.” In this tradi-

tion the moon is said to offer wisdom and intuition. This is a great time to be working on tarot cards and runes. Full Moon: Aug 3rd 11:59 am

1 bundle of cedar sage

1 yellow altar candle or gold (enhances solar magic)

1 Cup Chamomile tea or flower powder

1 Bay leaf

1. Cleanse your sacred area with an opening prayer, a sage smudging, and/or by burning some incense. (The

prayer must relate to you). Make yourself a cup of chamomile tea.

2. As you light your candle breathe in the light of the moon.

3. Pick up the bay leaf and hold it in your hand. While holding it, concentrate on any blockages you may

have. Visualize the blockages breaking as you break up the bay leaf. Put all you anger and emotion into the

leaf.

4. Now take the leaf and bury it into the earth. Drink your tea to seal the spell.
