TSN: 802.1 Qbv – Time Aware Traffic Shaping

Spirent TestCenter release 4.91 now supports generation of timed traffic based on gPTP time and Time Aware Shaping parameters. You can configure a set of Qbv parameters on the gPTP GUI and start Qbv traffic based on the configuration. You can configure Qbv Base time, Qbv Cycle time, and the Offset from the beginning of the cycle at which you want to start the traffic. A command has been added at the device level to start Qbv traffic using a gPTP device.

The objective is to start the traffic streams configured on the traffic generator at a user-configured gPTP time, when the gPTP protocol is started. This allows streams on different ports to be started at different times, allowing different streams and classes of traffic to arrive at the DUT at different instances, testing and evaluating its scheduling ability via Spirent TestCenter results views (on the receiving endpoint).

IEEE 1588 – Displaying and Recording t1-t4 Timestamps

Spirent TestCenter release 4.91 now supports displaying and logging the four timestamps (t1-t4) from the PTP Clock Sync messaging sequence. In Classic and Spirent TestCenter IQ result views, t1-t4 are visible in real time. You can specify the threshold offset value and trigger logging of t1-t4 values.

eCPRI PDU Template and Auto Response Frame

BPK-1364 eCPRI Base Package

Spirent TestCenter release 4.91 now supports the eCPRI (Evolved Common Public Radio Interface) PDU template and auto response framework. You can use this feature to create raw streams with eCPRI messages. You can also use the eCPRI auto response frame feature to match incoming DUT eCPRI messages with pre-defined filter patterns and respond with pre-defined messages. To access this feature, select the “Traffic Generator” under a port, click the “Add” button and then click the “Add Raw Stream Block …” menu option.

You can add payload directly for different message types as shown in the screen capture.

You can add data headers, application headers, and section headers to the eCPRI message.

Data Header – This is used to transfer time domain or frequency domain IQ samples between

physical processing elements split between eCPRI nodes (eREC and eRE).

ISIS SRv6 Draft Update

Spirent TestCenter now supports the ISIS SRv6 latest draft version draft-bashandy-isis-srv6-

extensions-04. As part of new draft, support for SRMSD Sub-tlv has been added under the

Neighbor tab. Note: There are no other GUI changes to support the latest draft version.

On the ISIS Global settings tab, you can change the default value of IANA numbers.

ISIS SR View Routes

Use the View Routes function to view the details of the routes learned from DUT(peer), a.k.a. the

routing information in Spirent TestCenter’s routing table. The routes information is from the TLVs of

the Route Update packets.

Spirent TestCenter now supports viewing IS-IS SR capabilities, LSP information, interface ip, and

related TLVs; for example, Prefix SID and Adj-SID as shown in the screen capture.

ISIS SR Flex Algorithm New! (Requires license BPK-1365 FLEX-ALGO FOR ISIS-SR PACKAGE)

Segment Routing (SR) allows a flexible definition of end-to-end paths within IGP topologies by

encoding paths as sequences of topological sub-paths, called segments. It also defines an

algorithm that defines how the paths are computed and provides a way to associate Prefix-SID

with an algorithm.

Spirent TestCenter now supports the following drafts and RFC to enable flex algorithm functions:

https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-lsr-flex-algo-00

https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-isis-te-app-04

RFC 7810 (IS-IS Traffic Engineering (TE) Metric Extensions)

Spirent TestCenter includes a new capability, “SR-FAD Sub-TLV,” added to Capability TLV tab.

17

Under the Neighbor tab, you can define the TE metrics for flex-algo as shown in the screen

capture.

SRv6 L3VPN Wizard

Spirent TestCenter now supports the SRv6 L3VPN Wizard. You can select the new wizard from

the SP-SDN wizard category and the SRv6 VPN wizard. Depending on the number of ports

involved in the testing, you can select Core and CE facing ports and step through the wizard to

complete the setup as shown in the screen capture. In addition, the wizard will automatically set up

the traffic bi-directionally by selecting SRH and IPinIP encapsulation.

Flow Spec Types 7, 8, 9, and 12 Support for IPv4

Spirent TestCenter now supports IPv4 flow spec types for 7, 8, 9, and 12. You can select different

types of BGP flow specs by enabling the component checkbox as shown in the screen capture.

BGP Add Path Capability Support for IPv6

Spirent TestCenter now supports BGP add-path capability for unicast and VPN routes. You can

input multiple next-hops in the IPv6 Nexthop list as shown below.

BGP Dual Stack

You can now select a BGP device to run in dual-stack mode and choose how to

advertise/withdrawn routes: on both the sessions, only on the IPv4 session, or only on the IPv6

session. The screen captures show how to configure BGP in dual-stack mode and add the routes

in the respective tabs.

20

BGP SRv6 for EVPN

Spirent TestCenter now supports SRv6 over EVPN route types 1, 2, 3, and 5; upon adding any of

these route types, you can select SRv6 Data Plane Encapsulation and then input the SRv6

parameters such as Locator, Function, and Argument as shown in the screen capture.

HLTAPI Enhancements

• The interface_config command has been enhanced to support the FEC option for 25G and 50G speeds

• The traffic_stats command has been enhanced so that the streamblock name may be used to get results for that streamblock

• The get_handles command has been enhanced to support all object types.

VXLAN Trasnporting VM BUM Traffic Using PIM-ASM Underlay

BPK-1310A VXLAN Emulation

Spirent TestCenter release 4.91 now supports transporting BUM (broadcast, unknown unicast, and

multicast) traffic from VMs to VMs that belong to the same L2VNI (Layer 2 virtual network) using

PIM-ASM (protocol independent multicast – any source multicast) in the underlay.

Each layer 2 virtual network is associated with a multicast group. This mapping of L2VNI and

multicast group should be configured on all emulated and DUT VTEPs that have VMs belonging to

that VNI. The same multicast group can be associated with multiple VNIs.

Spirent TestCenter emulated VTEPs will use EVPN type 3 inclusive multicast route to establish the

multicast PIM neighborhood among VTEPs. Routes are advertised with PMSI tunnel mode set to

either PIM SM, PIM-SSM, or PIM-BiDir and corresponding multicast address. The VMs will be

running IGMP protocol to express their interest in joining a specific multicast group.

To use this feature, you must create underlay named multicast groups. For each underlay named

multicast group, set the number of groups, starting IP multicast address, and increment steps.

Page 21: Spirent TestCenter Software and Hardware New Features 4 · Spirent TestCenter 4.91 New Features 4 New Spirent C50 Appliance Spirent C50 8-Port FX2 10/100/1000 Ethernet SFP NIC and

Spirent TestCenter 4.91 New Features

21

In the “VXLAN Segments” editor, you can then associate a VNI block with a named multicast group. If the VNI count in a VNI block is more than 1, and multicast group count is set o 1, all the VNIs in a VNI block will be associated with the same multicast group.

Those named multicast groups will be advertised in type 3 EVPN inclusive multicast routes.

Optimize Configuration for Long Term Test

Spirent TestCenter now provides a one-click option to optimize test configurations for long running

tests. Choosing this option automatically deletes inactive streams, changes the “Result refresh

mode” to manual, and unsubscribes “Aggregated Port L1 Tx/Rx Rate”.

The new button is under Settings > L2L3 ResultOptions
