Waste-to-energy incineration plant – St Helier, Jersey
Realized by the joint venture Spie batignolles Camerons Limited, this
project was at the time (2011) the most important project executed on
the Island of Jersey. Planned to operate during 25 years, this plant
was designed to produced 10 MW of electricity (7% of the Island’s
needs) while respecting the highest European standards in gas
emissions. For this project the joint venture was awarded two prices by
ROSPA and Considerate Constructors for its performance regarding
safety and environment.

ITER Cryostat & Coils Buildings – Cadarache, France
ITER is an international research project that will run full-scale test for
the future 5th generation nuclear reactor. The Cryostat is a
confinement vessel used to create the extremely low-temperature
(-273°C) needed for the reaction to occur. Components are
manufactured in India and assembled in the Cryostat building.
The design teams worked hard to optimize the final design, resulting in
a less expensive building that still met 100% of the customer’s needs.
This was also achieved by a strong mutual trust between Spie
batignolles and its partners (F4E, ITER Organization, ITER India, Larsen
& Toubro Ltd.).
Civil Engineering

Civil Engineering
/ Breaking records
Viaduct of Vila Pouca de Aguiar – Portugal
Among the 30 viaducts and 155 km of the IP3 SCUT highway project,
this viaduct, the biggest of the program was initially not part of the
plan. But this area occurred to be a “Natura 2000” protected area and
a natural habitat for wolves. To protect this natural treasure, the
highway was diverted and this 1,380 meters long and 90 meters high
viaduct was built in a record time of 22 months, by Spie batignolles
and Tamega.
Foundations
/ Creating a sustainable presence
Guggenheim Museum – Abu Dhabi, UAE
Regarding Middle East, Spie batignolles is already located in Abu
Dhabi, Dubai and Qatar for specific works such as foundations,
diaphragm walls, grouting and pilling. Through those works, Spie
batignolles was part of majors projects such as the Guggenheim
museum, STEP (Special Tunnel Enhancement Project) and The Gate
Towers in the UAE and the Doha Metro Gold Line in Qatar.
Strategic Tunnel Enhancement Program – Abu Dhabi, UAE
As a partner of Odebrecht, Spie batignolles’s work on the future
pumping station was completed in December 2014, after two-and-a-
half years of specialized works. This very expensive project covers
7,200 m2 of diaphragm walls, 1,200 m2 of secant piles, 33,000 ml of
injection bore holes, 750 ml of umbrella arch, 12,000 ml of bolts and
6,500 ml of piles.
Foundations
/Managing complex projects
Saverne Tunnel (LGV Project) – Eastern France
The Saverne tunnel on the LGV Est line is one of the outstanding
recent achievements. A design and construction project, it was the
first structure to be built under new European regulations on fire
safety in railway tunnels. Two separate tubes, through which TGVs will
travel at 320 km per hour, will enable rapid evacuation of passengers
in the event of an incident. Teams from Spie batignolles, excavated
more than 7 km of tunnel in two separate tubes using a mixed-ground
tunnel-boring machine and registered a world record monthly advance
with an average rate of progress of 24.5 meters per day.
Underground works
/ Aiming for performance
Croix-Rousse tunnel – Lyon, France
The multi-modal Croix-Rousse tunnel, in which Spie batignolles was
heavily involved, was awarded at the “Concrete and urban planning”
national competition. A world first, this innovative “soft transport”
tunnel is dedicated to environmentally-friendly transports mode:
buses, bicycles and pedestrians. To make the tunnel crossing more
pleasant, light and sound ambiances were installed all the way
through.
Underground works
/ Providing innovative services
CNM High Speed Rail Link – France
Spie batignolles is a French leading competitor regarding earth works
for major road, rail and hydraulic infrastructure projects. The CNM
(Contournement Nimes-Montpellier) high speed rail link and the A63
motorway project – finished 7 months ahead of schedule -, offered
further proof of project management expertise. The company is a
leading player in France in Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) and is
very active in this market
Earth works
/ Reshaping your world
Refurbishment of Lyon Airport taxiway – Lyon, France
Besides classic road and highway projects in which Spie batignolles
has many references (new roads and highways, road widening's,
interchanges, tolls, etc.), Spie batignolles has also an expertise in
specific works such as airport’s runways and taxiways, urban facilities
and car or bus parks.
Road works
/ Creating and repairing your assets
EDF Research & Development Center – Saclay, France
The EDF (Electricité de France) R&D Center, designed by Francis Soler,
will be the largest research center in Europe, gathering more than
1,400 research scientists. This project is part of the global Paris-
Saclay Campus program which aim is to gather both the best French
engineering and business schools but also the labs of the French
major companies. This development meets the highest standards for
sustainable energy (France’s HQE label and BREEAM Excellent label)
and is a showpiece for French environmental excellence and a
benchmarking for others worldwide.
Construction
/ Integrating environmental excellence
Auditorium of the “Maison de la Radio” – Paris, France
The new auditorium for the Maison de la Radio in Paris, designed by
Architecture Studio, opened to the public in November 2014. The new
1,460 seats concert hall designed to host orchestras from around the
world was built by Spie batignolles. The renovation work covered all
aspects in this Parisian landmark and took place while the site was in
operation.
Construction
/ Achieving construction quality
The Louvre modernization program – Paris, France
Spie batignolles completed the newly updated fire safety system
covering a major portion of the museum. This project includes a new
fire control center, 11 km of fiber optic cable, 2,700 fire detectors,
290 door controls, etc. Lighting upgrades will continue throughout
2015. The museum will remain open to the public during the
modernization works.
Energy
/ Enhancing user’s safety
Parking of Achères – France
Located near the city’s railway station, this parking of 600 parking
spaces was designed to encourage the citizens to use the public
transport services. Besides designing and constructing parking's, Spie
batignolles has also a strong activity in parking concessions, with the
brand ©Autocité, which manages more than 15,000 parking spaces
located in 26 different sites.
