School—5491 4522 Unity College – 5490 5777 We recognise the traditional owners of this land the Gubbi Gubbi peoples. 2016 - YEAR OF MERCY “In order to be capable of mercy…we must first of all dispose ourselves to listen to the Word of God. This means rediscovering the value of silence in order to meditate on the Word that comes to us. In this way, it will be possible to contemplate God’s mercy and adopt it as our lifestyle” (MV 13). \\ Right round the Presbytery, a volery of birds sing in symphony at dawn and dusk. How pleasantly hard it is for an untrained ear to make out which of the sounds belong to what bird. Yet, they all seem to convey one qualitative truth about existence: “in God we live and move and have our being' [Acts 17:28]. Recently, I received a beautiful card from a saintly friend living in the Gold Coast. On the card was a photo of two Kookaburras. In the meantime, I was interested savouring the wonderful wishes written in the card. However, my curiosity raged unabated as I seek to refill my knowledge bank about Kookaburras. Coupled with a remark from a senior citizen of our parish about this bird. I was forced to ask myself: “what other thing/s, Christopher, are you yet to know?" Maybe more of Australian wildlife, I suppose. I am fascinated by Kookaburras, somewhat family orientation. To conserve energy Kookas fly slowly and lower its metabolism and body temperature at night. Their distinctive cackling call, as if singing from the same “hymn sheet” serves as a territorial marker. And try to hold them in captivity, and Kookas won’t 'laugh'. So what do we learn from this bird, as we celebrate Corpus Christi: The Most Holy Body and Blood of Jesus? For us to accept the Real Presence of Jesus in the form of Bread and Wine is a great act of faith. The substance and essence of this Eucharistic meal does not lie on our perfection [Rm.3:23]. Rather, on the faithful words of Jesus: "Take and eat, this my body, take and drink, this my blood [Matthew 26:26-28], for God cannot deny Himself [cf.2Tim.2:13]. By faith, therefore, we do not change this food; this food changes us. This faith also highlights that symbiosis among believers who are now God's ‘spiritual aquarium’. This is key to our building trust, friendship and community life devoid of every kind of incendiary remarks. From Kookas, we learn that every time we listen to God’s word and partake of this Divine Eucharistic meal, we’re conserving and replenishing our energy leaks. We lower our appetite for distractions and increase our bond and exchange with God. Little wonder, Pope Francis, in the "Joy of the Gospel", refers to the Eucharist, as "not a prize for the perfect, but a powerful medicine and nourishment for the weak" [EG,47]. The raucous laughter of Kookaburras as a family can as well project another reality. Is it possible for these birds to be saying; ‘G’day mate, it’s another blissful day?’ So funny I brought that in, but its a kind of interdependence. The Solemnity of Corpus Christi, speaks of interdependence in the Church. We learn to break ourselves for others and express our hope together. Extending a hand of welcome towards a neighbour sitting beside us before Mass starts resonates more here [cf. Ps.133:1]. Our warm welcome and smiles can be the only message our visitors and friends may likely connect with that day. I've heard many visitors say to me after Mass, "I think I would like to retire here! This is a lovely and lively community church! They exude so much faith” And I would think our Parish ushers giving out newsletters are first contacts motivating these positive comments. Those warm smiles tattooed on their faces as they say: ‘Welcome', are no mere ritual; but concretise our faith which extends to all people without distinction or class. God Bless, Fr Chris

From Fr Kevin - One of the insights and indeed a grace of the Second Vatican Council was a renewed appreciation of the

Church as the Body of Christ This description given us by St Paul offers a challenge for us as we place ourselves in the world

Sometimes on the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ we explore our own identity and how we who are the many parts of the

Body continue the mission of Jesus While this is most worthwhile we should not miss the opportunity to make a conscious act of

faith in Christrsquos presence in the Eucharist Christ is really present in the consecrated elements of bread and wine It is this belief

that is both the summit and source of all that is done in Christrsquos name that is as the Body of Christ

Recently the parish had an extended period of time to pray before the Blessed Sacrament and many people hoped that this could

continue After discussion with the ministry team there will be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament every Monday from 800am

to 900pm at Our Lady of the Rosary Church This will commence on the 6th June Prayer before the Blessed Sacrament is to

deepen our faith and devotion to the Eucharist the memorial of the death and resurrection of Christ In other words such prayer

which comes from the Mass leads us into a deeper appreciation of the Mass I hope many people will take advantage of this time

There will be both vocal and sung prayers of praise as well as times of quiet reflection After four months or so we will review this

prayer time

There will be both vocal and sung prayers of praise as well as times of quiet reflection After four months or so we will review this

prayer time

Year of Mercy Sessions The parish Ministry Team is offering opportunities to gather for an hour of prayer and discussion in the spirit of the Year of Mercy Facilitated by Fr Biju the gath-erings will be held at various locations around the parish Light
