The structural and functional systems of the brain have complexnetworks in which connections play a prominent role. Gliomasare infiltrating tumors that can alter the normal function of theseconnections in different ways. Operating on and dealing withthese tumors requires a global approach that considers thetumor relative to the brain, and therapeutic goals are measuredin terms of quality of life and effective brain functioning.Consequently, neurosurgeons need to assemble a large amountof information before deciding to operate. As never before, modern neurosurgeons have the opportunity to enrich theircultural background through the translational flow of informationas a result of neuroscience research. Intraoperative brain mappingtechniques provide the unique opportunity to directly explorebrain function and represent an extraordinary integration withnon invasive methods. The aim of this congress is to gatherinternational leading experts from different neuroscience domainsto foster the exchange of knowledge between basic and clinicalneuroscientists. It will represent close interactions betweenneurosurgeons, neurologists, neurophysiologists, neuroradiologists, neuropsychologists and basic neuroscientists. Connections willbe the keyword of the congress, as the talks will exploreinteractions between the brain and gliomas, beginning with thenormal structure and function of the brain through fascinatingresearch in cortical and subcortical brain anatomy and theoreticbrain function modeling. Non-invasive brain mapping techniques, such as fMR (active and resting state), TMS and neuropsychologyexploration, will also be discussed, leading to a core feature ofthe congress, which includes the latest surgical techniques andintraoperative brain mapping. An entire section will be dedicatedto outcome measures, with a special emphasis on quality of lifefrom neurosurgical and neuropsychological perspectives. Indeed, connections between brain surgeons, neuroscientists, neuroimaging experts and neuropsychologists is definitely akeyword in modern glioma therapy.
