ContentsAbout this book:This book contains a collection of 17 spelling/word work printables that can be used with any word
list. The second half of this unit contains the same worksheets with a highlighted writing line for use
with children who are struggling with letter size differentiation.
Directions for use:Following is an outline of the worksheets included in this unit and suggestions for use.
1. Pencil/Pen/Marker
Students write their spelling words in the first column using a pencil, then a pen in the second
column and lastly a marker in the third column.
2. Alphabetical Order (2 pages)
For the first sheet, students write their spelling words in the “Spelling List” section, then write them in
alphabetical order in the “ABC Order” section. For the second sheet, students write their spelling
words in the boxes on the right side of the page, arrange them in alphabetical order, then glue
them in correct order on top of the numbered boxes.
3. Shape It!
Students write their spelling words in the shapes provided, stretching them out along the perimeter
or in the middle of each shape.
4. Frame It!
Students write their spelling words in the frames provided. They can write each word multiple times
using normal writing, fancy writing, capital letters, etc.
5. Syllables (2 pages)
For the first sheet, students write their spelling words in the “Spelling List” section, then write them in
correct section to show how whether the word has 1 or 2 syllables. For the second worksheet,
students write their spelling words to show whether they have 1, 2, or 3 syllables.
6. Shape It Out!
Students write their spelling words on the writing lines, then draw a “shape box” around the whole
word.
7. Backwards Spelling
Students first write their spelling words in the “Spelling List” section, then write each of their spelling
words backwards in the “Backwards” section.
8. Ups and Downs
Students first write their spelling words in upper case letters, then lowercase.
9. My Sentences
Students first write their spelling words in the “Spelling List” section, then write a sentence for each
of their spelling words.
10. Pyramid Words (for 5 and 6 letter words)
Students write their spelling words one letter at a time, following the example on the page.
11. Rainbow Words
Students write 8 of their spelling words 3 times on a different rainbow section using different
colours (optional).
12. No Peeking!
Students first write their spelling words in the “Spelling List” section, then write each of their spelling
words with their eyes closed.
13. Spelling Addition
Students add the letter points within each spelling word using a number-letter code provided.
14. My Story
Students write a story using all of their spelling words, highlight them, then draw a picture.
15. Word Search
Students first write their spelling words in the “Spelling List” section, then they make their own
personal word search using the 10X10 grid provided.
16. Rhyming Words
Students find 2 rhyming words for each word from their spelling list.
17. Spin to win
Students write 5 of their spelling words in each section of the
spinner and in each of the shaded sections at the bottom of the
graph. Using a paper clip and pencil as a spinner, students spin the
paper clip and colour a section on the graph to show each of their
spins. Upon completion, they record the word with the most spins
and the one with the least spins. Please see the example on the
right of how to use the spinner.hat
