ADVANTAGES
Safe disinfection through bio- dosimetrically certified systems
No harmful by-products (such as THMs in chlorinating)
Exceptionally low operating costs through uniquely efficient electricity flow and electronic
units of the newest generation
Excellent EMC protection, exceeds valid industry and
household standards
Ongoing self-monitoring of UV intensity, reactor temperatures and water flow combined with a high-performance memory and analysis system
Extremely low loss of pressure
Variable installation positions for easy integration into existing pipeline systems
UV Disinfection SystemsSpektron SeriesThe biodosimetrically tested UV systems from the Spektron
product range meet all the requirements of safe and environ-
mentally friendly water disinfection according to 11 of the
German drinking water regulation (TrinkwV 2001). They are
certified according to Austrian NORM and German DVGW
directives.
The new Spektron range offers a wide array of uses from
domestic water supply to industrial uses to large water plants
with a capacity of more than one thousand m3/h. What makes
them special is their consistent optimisation of hydraulic
characteristics with the use of the unique CrossMixmodule.
Electronic ballasts of the newest generation in conjunction
with our SpektrothermUV lamp technology allows minimi-
sing energy and lamp costs by up to 30 %. Improved Spektro-
thermUV lamps offer today even better efficiency and a very
long lamp life.
The robust construction makes them certifiably usable in
waters with high humic contents or in environments with
increased requirements in terms of EMC protection. The new
uv reactor construction ensures simple installation within
virtually any space limitation.

Safe disinfection at 254 nm
UV disinfection has been proven world-
wide as the most important water disinfec-
tion process. Bacteria, viruses, yeast and
parasites (for example, cryptosporidium
and giardia) are effectively inactivated by
using UV light.
There is no development of resistance
in UV disinfection as is increasingly experi-
enced in, for example, treatment using an-
tibiotics and also in chlorination. There are
no resultant dangerous by-products (DBP)
as is the case with chemical disinfection.

Taking photo reactivation intoaccount = safe disinfection
Photo reactivation, meaning the self-repair of inactivated micro-
organisms, can occur with many microorganisms making it parti-
cularly important to consider this effect in the original equipment
design. This is done by choosing a safe UV dosage (400 J/m2=40mJ/
cm2=40.000 Ws/cm2) that is confirmed by microbiological tests
(according to DVGW W-294 and/or NORM M-5873-1). Leading UV
specialists have repeatedly ascertained that there is no difference in
the safety of the disinfection capabilities between low and medium
pressure lamps when this UV dose is applied.

The most advantageous solution when compared to medium pressure lamps
Low pressure Medium pressure Significantly higher efficiency in UV-C: SpektrothermUV lamp: 40 % efficient
Medium pressure lamp: 12 - 15 % efficient
Lower electricity and operating costs Fewer lamps
Essential higher electricity and operating costs Shorter lifespan of lamps
Lower lamp operating temperature:SpektrothermUV lamp: 100 C
Medium pressure lamp: 800 C Medium pressure requires cooling at zero-flow
Low lamp aging and longer service life reduce operating costs
Medium pressure requires reactor temperature monitoring
Significantly less scaling on the protective quartz sleeves
Medium pressure lamps require a mechanical wiping system
Immediate restart possible Medium pressure lamps must cool down for 10 minutes Amount of liquid mercury:
SpektrothermUV lamp: 0 mg Amount of liquid mercury: Medium pressure lamp: up to 300 mg
