    Job Title: Special Education Diagnostician

    Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

    Reports to:TXVA

    Dept./School TXVA

    Position Summary:

    The Special Education Diagnostician will implement the special education evaluation

    process.

    Qualifications:

    Education/Certification Must possess a Master's degree (MA or M.S.) from an accredited institution

    of higher education in educational evaluation Must possess a valid Texas teaching certificate Must possess a valid Texas educational diagnostician certificate

    Experience 2-3 years of experience in classroom teaching for a public or accreditedprivate school. Must have 3+ years of experience collecting and interpreting test data for

    use in student placement and instructional programs.

    Must have 3+ years of experience identifying students failing to master any

    portion of TAKS and report objective areas of need for tutorial programs. Online experience is preferred.

    Required Knowledge. Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

    Must have a passion for students, especially students with disabilities. Must have the ability and patience to work interactively with children. Must have advanced knowledge of federal and state education laws.

    Must be computer literate.

    Must have the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.

    Must be able to cooperate with administrators and teachers in identifying students

    with special abilities and in providing appropriate classroom placement.

    Must be able to provide crisis counseling and consultation to students.

    Must be able to keep confidential the counseling relationship and information

    except when student's condition requires intervention.

    Must be able to inform students of the requirements for taking STAAR/TAKS tests

    with emphasis in mastery of Exit-Level TAKS or EOC as a requirement for

    graduation.

    Must be able to assist students in developing individual four year high school plans

    Must be able to provide current information on reference guides and colleges and

    maintain appropriate career information for students.

    Must be able to coordinate and assist the college scholarship process.

    Must be able to assist student with application process for college admission,scholarships, financial aid, alternative post high school training, includingletters of recommendation.

    Must be able to work closely with the homebound teachers, diagnosticians,

    visiting teacher, and all auxiliary personnel to help students with special

    needs. Must have the ability to communicate with all levels of students, theirparents, the community, peers, administrative staff, and corporate staff.

    Must have the ability to transition with changes. Must have excellent verbal and writtencommunication skills. Must have the ability to managemultiple priorities effectively.

    Must be proficient in the online instruction arena Must have the ability to travel as necessary.

    Preferred KSAs

    Must possess knowledge of diagnostic procedures, education of special

    education students Must have strong organizational, time management, communication,

    and interpersonal skills.

    Responsibilities and Duties:

    The Diagnostician will be responsible for the following task and duties:

    Evaluation

    Receive student referrals and review for Response to Intervention (RTI)fidelity

    Select and administer formal and informal evaluations to determine studenteligibility for special education services according to federal and stateregulations.

    Conduct classroom observations

    Participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee tointerpret evaluation data. Make recommendations for appropriate placementand development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs)

    Consultation

    Provide staff development training as requested to assist school

    personnel in identification of students with disabilities as well as

    understanding of specific disabilities. Assist classroom teachers with implementation of IEP.

    Consult with parents concerning the educational needs of students andinterpretation of evaluation data.

    Assist in the selection of evaluation materials and equipment.

    Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the evaluationprogram and make recommendations based on the findings.

    Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records,and other documents required. Observe all retention regulations.

    Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board ofEducation rule, and local board policy in the areas of evaluation, placement,and planning for special education services.

    Participate in professional development activities to improve the skills relatedto job assignment.

    Communication:

    Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors. Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents.

    Equipment Used:All equipment required to perform jobs duties and task previously described.

    The employee is expected to maintain emotional control under stress, travel to multiplelocations as needed, and may experience moderate lifting and carrying.
