Spectrum PowerCCEnergy Control – matching the challenges ofindustrial power supply

Competition in the industry leads to increased costpressure, which forces many companies to implementrationalization measures also with regard to energy supply. These could include reduced shifts in the control centerat night or on weekends, for example. The energy market, which as a result of deregulationis subject to increased dynamics and complexity, alsohas consequences for industrial power supply. Bymonitoring and control of the energy supply and the peakload, costs can be reduced and own power productioncan be optimized.

The energy control systemSpectrum PowerCC contains thefull range of functions – tailoredto the needs of industrial powersupply.

The scope ofSpectrum PowerCC

Energy Control:Applications and functions

• Basic functions

The basic functions encompassoperation and monitoring, log-ging, control, updating, taggingand alarming. In addition, theyinclude alarm forwarding, e.g.via city call, operation andmonitoring via Intranet/Internet,report management, valuecalculation as well as automaticsupervisory control. Additionaloptimizing functions are availablefor electrical networks.

Spectrum PowerCC providesclear, well-structured displays, the visualization of values, eithernumeric or in the form of bargraphs, curves, and charts, logging of reports, convenientquery functions on reports andthe visualization of external in-formation, e.g. of the productionprocess. The operator is alertedby means of visual and/oracoustic indicators.

Power supply disturbances arepresented in form of messagelists. They are classified accord-ing to priority, criticality and otherquery criteria.

• Operational support

Operational support is providedin the form of fault locationdetection, topological coloring, interlocking conditions, displayof grounded field devices, whichinformation is derived fromsuitable protection relays, andhighlighting of non-suppliednetwork parts.

• Archive

The archive contains analog, digital and accumulated mea-surements, It has two partitions,i.e. the online archive and thelong-term archive on externalstorage devices. The physicalstorage is in a commercialrelational database. Data accesson the fly is implemented via aconvenient user interface.

• Data processing

The data processing includesanalog, digital and accumulatedmeasurements and it also offersaveraging and maxima/minimaprocessing. In addition, theaccumulator processing includesthe calculation of load group-related consumption, hourly, daily, weekly and monthlyreports as well as the calculationof the demand in accordancewith the contracts.

• Load management

The load management servesto balance contracts with thepower suppliers. It includes loadtrending and demand sidemanagement. All applicationsmay run in study as well as inoperational mode.

• Engineering system

The engineering system pro-vides a common user interfacefor all configuration and fielddata. It enables importing ofdata from an external sourcesuch as another database or anASCII file. In addition, an object-oriented editor is available forentry and maintenance of allcustomer data. The naming con-vention is based on well-knownterms such as station, voltagelevel, branch or switchingelement. The hierarchical datastructure is user-defined.Modification of data is possiblewithout interrupting the runningoperation. The data is storedin a commercial relational data-base.

• Process interface

The field data can easily betransmitted via various standardprotocols, such as PROFIBUS,IEC 60 870 5-101, -102, -104and SINAUT 8-FW.

• Interfaces

Interfaces based on ODBC/OLEfacilitate the integration of toolssuch as Microsoft Excel. AnSQL interface is provided to gethistorical data. A simplified SQLinterface was implemented toget access to facility data, real-time data and calculated data.

• Software Development Kit(SDK)

Spectrum PowerCC can becustomized in a wide range tomatch even sophisticatedadditional requirements. In caseof further necessary extensions, customer specials may beattached via well-defined APIs.Customer specials will bedeveloped by means of SDK.

• Connection of large screenprojections

• Redundant system(optional)
