Fun Fact

Moving from September to October here are some interesting facts that happened in October:

The first Ford “Model T” was put on the market – 10/1/1908

The Soviet Union launched the first artificial satellite – 10/4/1957

President Harry S. Truman made the first presidential telecast ad-dress from the White House – 10/5/1947

The Chicago Fire began and burned for 30 hours – 10/8/1849

U.S. Naval Academy opened at Annapolis, MD – 10/10/1845

The first transcontinental telegram was sent – 10/24/1945

The Statue of Liberty was dedicat-ed – 10/28/1886

Nevada became the 36th state – 10/31/1864

Project Update

With the space program finalized and the overall square footage of the

building set at 120,000SF, the project has moved in to the schematic de-

sign process. As we discussed in last week’s issue, schematic design is the

time where the overall layout and look of the building is estab-

lished. Randy Pease with Integrated Architecture has been working dili-

gently on getting each department located properly on their designated

floors and through this process the footprint of the building has length-

ened. This change was presented to the PDG Group last week, as well as

current department locations and the following items were brought up

and discussed at that meeting:

Women’s Health is now located on the first floor

Women’s Health and Urgent Care will co-utilize flex exam rooms

All private offices have been removed from the project because they do not

fit the Spectrum model of care

On the 3rd floor, the EEG rooms need to be located in a place where there

will be minimal noise and traffic

The team needs to determine the true needs of the loading area

Special attention needs to be given to the location of the MRI

It needs to be located away from any moving metal, such as the trucks in

the loading docks

Its relationship to phone triage needs to be considered due to the

amount of noise the unit will emit

The IS issues need to be addressed and communicated to the team

Issues include kiosks, check out process, need for nurse call and printers

in exam rooms

We have been inputting these comments, as well as others over the past

week. In addition to the schematic design going on, Elzinga & Volkers has

been working with The Concord Group to establish the preliminary budget

for the project. We have reached out to local subcontractors to validate

costs, as well as try to get inside information on if they project any fluctua-

tions in the market over the next year.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

Let’s all do our part to help find a cure, whether that’s a charity con-tribution, volunteering or having a “pink day” at the office. Every lit-tle bit helps.

Project Forecast

Plans will continue to evolve over the next couple of weeks. We will be meeting with each department next week to present the current documents. In these meetings will be discuss-ing adjacencies with other practices, provider work areas, location in the building, exam room lay-out, hospitality locations, and the overall building layout. From these meetings we will be looking for likes, dislikes, needs, and wants to help direct the design of the building to help suit each de-partment. After our first meeting there will be a follow up meeting to confirm if what was dis-cussed in the initial meeting was translated to the drawings properly. By the next issue of The Cor-nerstone we will be entering these second meetings, as well as getting closer to taking the next step in design.
