Abstract. LetG D .P;Q/ be a bipartite graph andG0 be a graph obtained by joining each vertexof P and Q with m and s new vertices respectively. We obtain the characteristic, Laplacian andsignless Laplacian polynomial of G0. As an application, we give a simple proof for Csikvari’slemma on eigenvalues of graphs.

1. INTRODUCTION
Throughout the paper 0nn and In are used respectively, for square zero and iden-tity matrix of order n, 0n and jn, respectively, stand for length-n column vectorsconsisting entirely of 0’s and 1’s. The Kronecker product A˝B of two matricesA.aij / and B.bij / of order m n and p q, respectively, is the mp nq matrixobtained from A by replacing each element aij by aijB . This operation has theproperties .A˝B/T D AT ˝BT and .A˝B/.C ˝D/ D .AC ˝BD/ wheneverthe products AC and BD exist. The latter implies .A˝B/1 D A1˝B1 fornonsingular matrices A and B . Moreover, if A and B are nn and pp matrices, then det.A˝B/D .detA/p:.detB/n. NKn, Kn and Kn;m stand for the graph with nisolated vertices, complete graph and complete bipartite graph, respectively. Also weuse these two notations

Let G be a graph with the vertex set fv1; : : : ;vng. The adjacency matrix of G is an(nn) matrix A.G/ whose .i;j /-entry is 1 if vi is adjacent to vj and 0, otherwise. The characteristic polynomial of G, denoted by fG./, is the characteristic polyno-mial of A.G/. We will write it simply fG when there is no confusion. The rootsof fG are called the eigenvalues of G. The notation .a/Œm, means that multiplicitiyof the root a is m. Spectral graph theory is an area of intense study, see for instance [1,2,4–6]. Graphtransformations are natural techniques for producing new graphs from old ones, andtheir spectra have received considerable attention in recent years. In this paper, wefind the characteristic, Laplacian and signless Laplacian polynomial of some specialbipartite graphs obtained from other bipartite graphs by a specific graph transforma-tion. We describe it as follows. Let G D .P;Q/ be a bipartite graph with n verticeswhich jP j D p, jQj D np. We join each vertex of P and Q with m and s newvertices, respectively. We add .np/.m s/ isolated vertices. This only resultsadding 0’s to the various spectrums, but will simplify our computation. We denotethe resulting graph by Gms . By a proper labeling, the adjacency matrix of Gms is

where D D jmT ˝In .0sT ;jmsT /˝Snp.We obtain the characteristic, Laplacian and signless Laplacian polynomial ofGms .
Let G D .P;Q/ be a bipartite graph with n vertices which jP j D p, jQj D np.We join each vertex of P and Q with m and s new vertices respectively. From nowon, we denote this graph by G0. In Section 2 we give some preliminaries. In Section3 we obtain the characteristic polynomial of Gms . The results on Gms enable usto obtain the characteristic polynomial of G0. As an application, we give a simpleproof for Csikvari’s lemma on eigenvalues of graphs ( [3] Lemma 2.8). Finally, weconstruct some graphs whose all nonzero eigenvalues are of the form ˙
pm˙pm
for any natural number m. In Section 4 we obtain Laplacian and signless Laplacianpolynomials of Gms and G0.

In this section we assume that G is an r-regular bipartite graph with jGj D nD 2kwhere k is the size of each part and G0 is obtained from G by joining each vertexof one part to m and each vertex of another part to s new vertices. We denote theLaplacian polynomial of G0 by fL.G0/./ and the signless Laplacian polynomial ofG0 by fQ.G0/./.
