RepeateduseofVOLUNTEER(orsimilarpostemergencegrassherbicideswiththesamemodeofaction)mayleadtotheselec-tionofnaturallyoccurringbiotypesthatareresistanttotheseproductsinsomegrassspecies.Biotypesarenaturallyoccurringindividualsofaspeciesthatareidenticalinappearancebuthaveslightlydifferentgeneticcompositions;themodeofactionofaherbicideisthechemicalinteractionthatinterruptsabiologicalprocessnecessaryforplantgrowthanddevelopment.

Ifpoorperformanceoccursandcannotbeattributedtoadverseweatherorapplicationconditions,aresistantbiotypemaybepresent.Whereothercontrolstrategies,suchascroprotation,mechanicalremoval,andotherclassesofherbicidesarenotusedinfieldsfromyeartoyear,thisismostlikelytooccur.

Contactofthisproductwithdesirablegrasscrops,suchascorn,rice,sorghum,smallgrains,orturfshouldbeavoidedastheseandothergrasscropswillbeinjuredorkilled.Minorleafspottingcanoccurontreatedplantsundercertainenvironmentalconditions.Newfoliageisnotaffected.

SYMPTOMS OF CONTROLThetreatedgrassweedsshowareductioninvigorandgrowth.Earlychlorosis/necrosisofyoungerplanttissueisfollowedbyaprogressivecollapseoftheremainingfoliage.Dependingongrassspeciestreatedandenvironmentalconditions,symptomswillgenerallybeobservedin7to14daysafterapplication.

APPLICATION INFORMATIONTimingMakeapplicationofVOLUNTEERpostemergencetoactivelygrowinggrassesaccordingtotheratetablerecommendations.Donotmakeapplicationtograssplantsstressedbyinsufficientmoistureorhotorcoldtemperature.Applicationstograssplantsexceedingrecommendedgrowthstagescouldresultinunsatisfactorycontrol.Donotmakeapplicationswhenthisoccurs.

Whenirrigationisusedtosupplementlimitedrainfallinaridregions,VOLUNTEERshouldbeappliedassoonaspossible,afteran irrigation(within7days).Asecondapplicationof thisproductwillgenerallyprovidemoreeffectivecontrolofperennialgrassweedthanasingleapplicationinaridregions.Applyasecondapplicationtoactivelygrowinggrass2to3weeksafteremergenceofnewgrowth.

Cultivationoftreatedgrasses7dayspriortoorwithin7daysafterapplicationofthisproductcouldreduceweedcontrol.DONOTAPPLYifrainfallisexpectedwithinonehourascontrolmaybereduced.

MakeapplicationofVOLUNTEERin0.1to0.2acre-inchofwater,eitherattheendofaregularirrigationsetorasaseparateap-plicationnotassociatedwitharegularirrigationusingtheleastamountofwaterthatprovidesproperdistributionandcoverage.Applicationofmorethanlabelrecommendedquantitiesofirrigationwaterperacremayresultindecreasedproductperformancebyremovingthechemicalfromthezoneofeffectiveness.UseameteringdevicetoinjecttheVOLUNTEERintotheirrigationwaterataconstantflow.Constantagitationmustbemaintainedinthechemicalsupplytankduringtheentireperiodofherbicideapplication.Injecttheproductwithapositivedisplacementpumpintothemainlineaheadofarightangleturntoensureadequatemixing.Allowtimeforalllinestoflushtheherbicidethroughallnozzlesbeforeturningoffirrigationwater.Toensurethelinesareflushedandfreeofremainingherbicide,adyeindicatormaybeinjectedintothelinestomarktheendoftheapplicationperiod.

General Precautions1.Applythisproductonlythroughsprinklerincludingcenterpivot,lateralmove,endtow,side(wheel)roll,traveler,biggun,solidset,orhandmovesystem(s).Donotapplythisproductthroughanyothertypeofirrigationsystem.

2.Cropinjury,lackofeffectiveness,orillegalpesticideresiduesinthecropcanresultfromnon-uniformdistributionoftreatedwater.

3.Ifyouhavequestionsaboutcalibration,youshouldcontactStateExtensionServicespecialists,equipmentmanufacturersor other experts.

4.Donotconnectanirrigationsystem(includinggreenhousesystems)usedforpesticideapplicationtoapublicwatersystemunlessthepesticidelabel-prescribedsafetydevicesforpublicwatersystemsareinplace.

5.A person knowledgeable of the chemigation system and responsible for its operation or under the supervision of theresponsibleperson,shallshutthesystemdownandmakenecessaryadjustmentsshouldtheneedarise.

Sprinkler Chemigation Precautions1. Thesystemmustcontainafunctionalcheckvalve,vacuumreliefvalve,andlowpressuredrainappropriatelylocatedontheirrigationpipelinetopreventwatersourcecontaminationfrombackflow.

2.Thepesticideinjectionpipelinemustcontainafunctional,automatic,quick-closingcheckvalvetopreventtheflowoffluidbacktowardtheinjectionpump.

3.Thepesticideinjectionpipelinemustalsocontainafunctional,normallyclosed,solenoid-operatedvalvelocatedontheintakesideoftheinjectionpumpandconnectedtothesysteminterlocktopreventfluidfrombeingwithdrawnfromthesupplytankwhentheirrigationsystemiseitherautomaticallyormanuallyshutdown.

MIXING INSTRUCTIONS1. Fillcleanspraytank1/2to2/3ofdesiredlevelwithcleanwater.Whileagitating,addthecorrectamountofVOLUNTEER,makingsurethatagitationmakesaripplingorrollingactiononthewatersurface.

2.Whentankmixingthisproductwithotherlabeledherbicides,addwater-solublebagsfirst,followedbydryformulations,flowables,emulsifiableconcentratesandthensolutions.Preparenomorespraymixturethanisrequiredfortheimmediatespray operation.

3.Addanyrequiredadjuvants(cropoilconcentrate,nonionicsurfactantand/ornitrogensolution.).4.Fillspraytanktodesiredlevelwithwater.

Continue agitation until all spray solution has been applied.Failuretoagitatethespraysolutionmayresultinimpropermixingoftheherbicidesandunsatisfactoryweedcontrol.Verifymixingandcompatibilityqualitiesbyconductingajartest.
