WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A CULTIVATOR AND A TILLER?The main difference is size. Because cultivators are smaller in size, they are compact and lightweight enough to maneuver easily between garden rows. Great for cultivating small established beds or for easily weeding between rows, a cultivator is a handy tool for any garden. Larger tillers are ideal when establishing new beds or working in bigger gardens.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FRONT-TINE AND REAR-TINE TILLERS?Front-tine tiller is a must-have tool for maintaining soil that has been cultivated previously.

Rear-tine tiller is considered the real workhorse in the garden. Easier to handle and operate than a front-tine tiller, a rear-tine tiller is recommended for installing new beds or maintaining gardens up to 10,000 square feet. Because the tines are mounted behind the large drive wheels and the engine is mounted forward over the wheels, a rear-tine tiller offers better traction and balance.

WHAT ARE FORWARD-ROTATING TINE TILLERS, COUNTER-ROTATING TINE TILLERS AND DUAL-DIRECTION TILLERS — AND WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?Forward-rotating tine tillers are designed for premium soil preparation, with tines that slice, chop and turn to create finely milled, well-aerated soil ready for planting. They’re also great for turning under vegetation and compost in the fall.

Counter-rotating tine tillers are great for breaking ground in new beds and for turning hard-packed earth into rich, workable soil. With tines and wheels moving in opposite directions, these tillers can dig faster and deeper, even in the most challenging conditions.

ETHANOL’S EFFECT ON YOUR ENGINEMany fuels are blended with ethanol, which is known to cause corrosion. To keep your engine running at top performance, use these simple tips.

• Do not use blends of fuel containing more than 10% ethanol.These blends will lead to poor engine performance, damage to internal components, potential safety hazards, and may void the engine warranty.

• Always use a fuel stabilizer product, regardless of the ethanol content in the fuel mix. The use of a fuel stabilizer eliminates the need to drain fuel during storage, reduces corrosion and moisture, and keeps fuel fresh for up to 12 months.

• If you do not use a fuel stabilizer, never use gas older than 30 days.Also, don’t let gas stay in your unit for longer than 30 days.

• Please remember you cannot restore bad gas. Adding a fuel stabilizerto old gas will not reverse the condition. Using a fuel stabilizer initiallyin new gas will help extend the life of the gas.

TO ENSURE YOUR MOWER AND/OR TILLER ARE READY IN THE SPRING, FOLLOW THESE EASY STEPS:

SPRING PREPARATION

• Remove the engine shroud and clean around air-cooling fi ns• Change engine oil• Clean deck top and bottom; in between and under tine housing• Lubricate controls, linkages and wheels• Add fresh gas that includes a fuel stabilizer product• Replace the spark plug• Check blade sharpness• Clean or replace the air fi lter

BEFORE EACH USE

• Check fuel and oil levels• Check for loose or worn parts

AFTER EACH USE

• Turn machine off and clean clippings from underside of mower and top of deck; clean dirt and debris from tires and under housing

DURING THE SEASON

• Always use fresh gas that includes a fuel stabilizer product• Check blade sharpness and balance• Check visible moving parts for wear or looseness

WINTER STORAGE

• Change oil• Drain gas or add fuel stabilizer product• Lubricate engine cylinder• Grease where necessary• While machine is off, thoroughly clean mower/tiller
