A idea of a just society is of course a very political notion: in fact, deep social unrest, turmoil and revolutions have occurred with the objective to arrive atsuch a society. What leads to society being more and more unjust in a seemingly irreversible fashion? To start with, democratic deficits, weak accountability structures and unrepresentative political systems often lead to bottlenecks for citizen participation in the public sphere. Such accountability issues need to be addressed. If they are left ignored, social divisions can rise and a society can become extremely polarized.
