Our early days

Thecompanydevelopeditsfirstproduct,ahydraulicurinalflushcontrolvalvein1976atatimewhentherewerenoregulationsstipulatingthatcompanieshadtominimisewaterconsumptioninthewashroom.

ThedesiretoconservewaterandpromotewashroomhygieneisthekeydriverofCistermiser’songoinginvestmentinnewproductdevelopment.

Research and development

Twolowpressurederivativesofthehydraulicvalveweredevelopedduringthe1980sbeforethecompanyaddeditsfirstdomesticproduct,alimescalepreventiondevicecalledCombimate,toitsrangein1987.

InvestmentinR&Dledtothedevelopmentofelectronictechnologiesandthecompanylaunchedacompletewashroomcontrolandtheinfraredurinalflushcontrolvalveintheearly1990s.

Inrecentyears,thecompany’sproductportfoliohasexpandedintoallareasofthewashroomwitharangeofWCandurinalflushingdevices,aseriesofinfraredtapsandSensazone;anadvancedsystemtomanagewaterandenergy.

Urinal Flushing OurrangeofurinalflushcontrolvalvesincludestheHydraulicurinalflushcontrolvalve,andelectronicInfraredControlvalveforuseinurinalinstallationswhereacisternisusedtoflushtheurinal.

TheDirectFlushurinalvalveisan‘intelligent’productwhichdetectswhensomeoneisusingtheurinalandonlyflushesafterthatpersonhasleftit.Thisvalvehasbeenspecificallydesignedforflushingurinalsdirectlyfromthe(mains)watersupply.

How it works

TheCistermiserHydraulicValveisinstalledonthesupplypipetotheurinalcistern.Thevalveisactivatedbyshort-termpressuredropscreatedbyuseoftapsorWCsonthesamesupply.Thevalveisnormallyclosed;whenitisactivateditopensandwaterpassestotheurinalcisternuntilthepressuresonbothsidesofthevalveareequalised.Whenthecisternisfull,theauto-siphonwillflush.

TheInfraredUrinalFlushControl(IRC)valveautomaticallymanagesthesupplyofwatertoaurinalcistern.ThePIRsensordetectsmovementandactivatesthesolenoidvalve,allowingwaterintoaurinalcistern.

• Thesolenoidassemblyisplumbedinonthewatersupplytotheurinalcistern.Theconnectiontotheinfraredsensorismadeeitherbydirectlymountingthesensormoduleontothesolenoidorbyusingthe‘floatingsocket’suppliedforaremotemounting.Ifmountedremotely,thesensormodulemaybe:

-Surfacemountedusingastandardpattressbox.

-Recessedintoasuspendedceilingusingthe‘ceilingmountingkit’(CMK),suppliedwiththeIRCasstandard.

• Ifthesensordetectsnooccupancyin12hoursitwillautomaticallyopenthevalvefor30minutestoallowoneflushofthecisterntorinsetheurinalsandpipework.

• Thesequenceisdesignedtomaximisebatterylife,givingapproximately3years’lifefromonegoodqualitysetofbatteries.

• Theflowrateofthewaterintothecisternisadjustabletomaximisewatereconomy.Generallythisshouldbesetsothatthecisternflushesonceeverytimethevalveisopened.i.e.every30minutesduringoccupation.

How it works

TheInfraredUrinalFlushControl(IRC)consistsofasolenoidvalveandthesensormodule.

WhentheIRCdetectsmovementinthewashroom,apulsefromthesensoropensthenormally-closedsolenoidvalveandwaterflowstothecistern;atthesametimethesensorisswitchedoff.

After25minutesthepowerisrestoredtothesensorand,aslongasnomovementisdetectedfor5minutes,thesolenoidvalvecloses,shuttingoffthewatersupplytothecistern.

Toachieveaneffectiveandefficientflush,thewatersystemneedstodeliveratleast90lpm(litresperminute).Typicallythiswouldrequirethatthedynamicwaterpressure,measuredbeforethevalve,isatleast2bar.If90lpmcannotbeachieved,theflushwillbelesseffectiveandalongerflushdurationormultipleflushesmayberequired.Thiscanresultinwaterwastage.

Ifthewaterflowrateexceeds150lpm,splashingfromtheWCbowlmayoccur.EasyflushDirectisfittedwithaflowregulatorthatwilllimittheflowrateto100lpm.However,additionalflowregulatorsfor90lpmand125lpmareincluded,toregulatetheflowratefurther,ifrequired.

Flow rates

Theflushvolumeisdeterminedbytheflushdurationandtheflowrateofthewatersupply.Usingtheflowregulatorsandadjustingtheflushduration,willallowyoutoconfiguretheflushperformance.However,thiswilldifferbasedontheWCbowldesign.

Theflowratecanalsobereducedbyturningtheadjusterscrewinthemiddleofthevalve(clockwisetoreduceflow)orbyfittingathirdpartypressurereducingvalveaboveEasyflushDirect.

Ensurethatthedynamicwaterpressure(pressuremeasuredwhilethevalveisopenandwaterisflowing)issufficienttoachievetherequiredflowrate.

AstheSensazonecontrolstheflowofwaterintothewashroomareaattheentrypoint,thewaterispreventedfrompassinguncontrolledthroughthe

damagedoutlet,whicheliminatestheriskofwaterwastageorfloodingduringvacantperiods.

How it works

CombimateisfilledwiththeappropriateamountofCombiphoswhich,whenincontactwithwater,isreleasedinverysmallquantities,sufficienttokeepthemineralionsinsuspension.

Thisactionpreventstheformationofscalewhileretainingthehealthbenefitsofthenaturalmineralscontainedinhardwater.Combiphoscoatstheinsideofthepipework,boilerheatexchangerandapplianceswithanon-residual,microscopic,protectivecoatingtopreventscale-causingmineralsfromaccumulatingandaggressivesoftwaterfromcorrodingthesystemandappliances.

Combiphosshouldbereplacedonanannualbasis.CombiphosRefillboxes(800g)areavailablefromtradeoutlets.

Installing Combimate

Therearetwopossibleinstallations;whole-housesupplyorsingleappliance.

Whole-house supplyForthisinstallationCombimateshouldbeplumbedinafterthestop-valveonthecoldwatersupplytothepremises.ThewhiteremovabledividertrayshouldberemovedfrominsidetheCombimatedomeinawholehouseinstallationsothatthedomecanbecompletelyfilledwithCombiphos.

Single appliance installationsCombimatecanbeusedtoprotectasingleappliancebyplacingitonthecoldwatersupplytothatappliancee.g.aboilerinwhichcasetheredremovabledivider

trayshouldbeleftinplace,andCombiphosshouldonlybeputinthetophalfofthedomeandthisreducestheamountofCombiphosrequired.

Inletandoutletconnectionsuse15mmor22mmcompressionfittings(dependingonmodel).ThereisminimalpressureorflowratelossthroughCombimate.Vertical,topandbottomentrypipeworkcanbeusedwhichensureseasyretrofitinstallation.Combimateshouldbeinstalledatleast0·5mfromanylocalsourcesofheatsuchasboilersorhotwaterpipes.
