Our Award in Biomedical Electrical Safety Testing is the only accredited training course in Australia which teaches the theory and practice of Biomedical Electrical Safety Testing in accordance with Standard AS/NZS 3551.

The mission of The Medical Room’s Healthcare Technology
Training Team is:
To equip technical staff involved with the support of healthcare technology with the
knowledge and expertise to use, inspect, service & repair medical & dental devices
safely & effectively in line with best practice, current legislation & manufacturers'
recommendations.
The Medical Room is pleased to present a comprehensive technical training programme for Clinical & Biomedical Technicians, Technologists & Engineers. Competency and practice-based training for technical staff involved in supporting healthcare technology. Developed in partnership with a leading NHS London University teaching hospital.
The programme is designed to amalgamate experience with further education, to improve knowledge and to develop the practical skills of staff supporting healthcare technology. The course reinforces the safe and effective support and maintenance of medical and dental devices in the clinical environment.
The course comprises 9 units:

technology. Incorporates relevant legislation, health and safety, and best practice
engineering protocols.

Objectives
On successful completion of this unit the learner will be able to: Understand the principles and importance of electrical safety in the hospital Have knowledge of and understand the important aspects of the relevant Australian Standards pertaining to the management of medical devices in a hospital Be aware of practical ways to implement Australian Standards in their hospital Be aware of any changes to the Australian Standards in the most recent versions Be aware of the relevant legislative and licensing requirements across Australia Understand the requirements regarding Electrical Safety and Patient Area testing Be aware of risk management techniques and how they may be applied to medical device management

This is a short course designed to provide an in-depth understanding of the relevant Australian standards relating to the safe management of medical devices and the practical implementation of those standards in the hospital. The course will include both the theory and the practice of managing medical devices safely and in line with Australian standards.
