DEAR ALCA MEMBERS, PARTNERS AND SUPPORTERS: DEAR ALCA MEMBERS, PARTNERS AND SUPPORTERS:
Our 2021 ALCA Conference Planning Committee and ALCA
staff have been working diligently to plan an outstanding
conference for you. As co-chairs of the 2021 conference,
we were so eager to welcome you to Boston, one of the
most exciting cities in the US. However, after reviewing the
results of the recent membership survey, we have made
the diffi cult, but necessary decision to cancel the in-person
portion of the conference and go completely virtual. We
hear loud and clear the profound impacts this pandemic
is still having on our members’ personal and professional
lives and the vulnerable populations you serve. Based on
the uncertainty of when Boston will loosen their current
gathering restrictions, the challenges with the vaccine roll
out and fi nancial and safety concerns for our members,
speakers, and staff the fi nal decision was inevitable. We
know it’s not ideal but hope you will consider support
ALCA and our committee’s eff orts to bring you another
outstanding event!

During this session, Dr. Castiel will talk about heath disparities and the
roles healthcare workers play in providing equitable and culturally
appropriate care for communities of color, with a focus on elderly
populations and those with disabilities. Race and Ethnicity are
intersectional identities that impact how individuals move through
our society’s healthcare systems, and this session will review some
of the many ways racism and discrimination have impacted the lived

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
BUSINESS TR ACKThinking About Your Business the Same Way You Think About Your Client
As Aging Life Care Professionals, we pride ourselves on our expertise
and our ability to improve the health and well-being of our clients. We
use a scientifi c approach to identify and stratify key risks, prioritize, and
implement a plan, and evaluate the eff ectiveness of that plan. What
if we applied the same skill set to the health and well-being of our
business? Most Aging Life Care Professionals come from backgrounds
with vast experience in helping others and are confi dent in their
abilities to do so. Maybe running a business is a new skill for us or
have experience but lack the knowledge and confi dence needed to
strengthen or scale our business. The session will raise awareness about
common internal and external risk factors Aging Life Care management
businesses are exposed to while giving them confi dence in their ability
to manage these risks by applying a skill set with which they already
have expertise.

CLIENT CENTERED TRACKDemonstrating Value During the “The Fragile Years™”
The Fragile Years™ is a concept developed by the speaker that describes
that period of time when parents or other older loved ones start to and
continue to experience events that lead them to need interventions
and assistance. By framing these experiences as “The Fragile Years”,
Aging Life Care Professionals can demonstrate their value to families
by helping to identify the systems that need to be navigated - medical,
fi nancial, social, and more. ALCPs can help families to “reset” to the new
normal, lower anxiety, plan for changes, and become a trusted partner
throughout the Fragile Years.
