PACEM IN TERRIS PEACE AND FREEDOM AWARDThe Pacem in Terris Peace and Freedom Award wasfirst given in 1964 by the Davenport CatholicInterracial Council. Since 1979, the award hasbeen given by the Social Action Department of theDavenport Diocese with Pax Christ Quad Cities andBread for the World. The award is named for PopeJohn XXIII's 1963 onc yc Lt caL letter, Pacem inTerris (Peace on Earth), which called on all peopleof good will to secure peace among nations.

Pax Christi Quad Cities is part of theinternational organization of Catholics and otherscommitted to making peace and nonviolence centralto the work of the church and the community. Bread for the World is a nationwide Christiancitizens movement which works to alleviate hungerby influencing public policy. The Quad Citychapter meets on the fourth Monday of the month.For additional information, contact Dick Guise755-6496 or Carolyn McGuire 764-6741 or 764-1419.
