PACEM IN TERRIS PEACE AND FREEDOM AWARDThe Pacem in Terris Peace and Freedom Award wasfirst given in 1964 by the Davenport CatholicInterracial Council. Since 1979, the award hasbeen given by the Social Action Department of theDavenport Diocese with Pax Christ Quad Cities andBread for the World. The award is named for PopeJohn XXIII's 1963 onc yc Lt caL letter, Pacem inTerris (Peace on Earth), which called on all peopleof good will to secure peace among nations.

Pax Christi Quad Cities is part of theinternational organization of Catholics and otherscommitted to making peace and nonviolence centralto the work of the church and the community.
