The standard properties of the hot-working steel 1.2343 ESR Premiumare set by combining the melting process with a secondary refi ning treat-ment (vacuum degassing, argon fl ushing).
Casting of the ingots takes place by bottom pouring making sure no oxi-des, which are formed at the head of the ingot, can get into the melt. The solidifi ed ingot is remelted and the droplets are cleaned through a slag. This process is known as electroslag remelting (ESR).
The ESR-ingot is formed to the required dimensions by a targeted ther-mo-mechanical treatment. The result of this special controlled heat treat-ment combined with a high degree of deformation is a homogeneous and extra fi ne microstructure (EFS).

Anwendungsempfehlungen
Aufgrund seiner hervorragenden Zähigkeit und Polierbarkeit findet 1.2343 ESU Premium sowohl Anwendung in der Warmarbeit als auch in der Polymerverarbeitung. Die Härte kann auf über 50 HRC gesteigert werden, wobei eine hohe Zähigkeit erhalten bleibt. Hierdurch eröffnen sich Anwendungsgebiete im Bereich der GFK-Spritzgusswerkzeuge, welche sowohl verschleißbeständig als auch zäh sein müssen. Falls ein höherer Verschleißwiderstand gefordert wird, kann 1.2343 ESU Premium sowohl randschichtgehärtet, nitriert als auch PVD-beschichtet werden.
Weitere Vorteile des 1.2343 ESU Premium sind seine gute Bearbeit-barkeit und Härtbarkeit. Im Vergleich zum normalen 1.2343 benötigt der Kunde keine anderen Werkzeuge oder Bearbeitungsparameter. Auch bei der Wärmebehandlung können die bekannten Parameter für 1.2343 verwendet werden.

Due to the excellent toughness and polishability, 1.2343 ESR Premiumcan be used for both hot-working applications and for polymer pro cessing.
The hardness of the material can be increased up to over 50 HRC, main-taining its ductility. This opens up areas of application for GRP-moulding tools. These tools require good wear resistance and good toughness.
If a higher wear resistance is required, 1.2343 ESR Premium can also be surface hardened, nitrided and PVD-coated.

Additional advantages are the good machinability and hardenability of 1.2343 ESR Premium. Compared to standard materials users do not need special tools or machi-ning parameters. The heat treatment of 1.2343 ESR Premium is similar to the standard material 1.2343.

Due to the alloying composition, our hot-working steel 1.2343 ESR Premium shows excellent hardenability.
The carbon content ensures a good hardness increase. Chrome and molybdenum allow for large cross sections to be through hardened. During the tempering process vanadium and molybdenum form fi nely dispersed carbides. This leads to a secondary hardening of the material.
Our Coating & Hardening division has decade-long experience with the vacuum heat treatment of steel. At our facility, 9 vacuum hardening furnaces and 14 protective gas tempering furnaces are available. With this equipment the ideal heat treatment for your moulds, cavities and dies can be performed.
