Due to many available drive/converter solutions, three main transformer designs are significant in this area:

• Transformer for 6-pulse operation• Designed as standard 2-winding transformer

• Transformer for 12-pulse operation• Designed as 3-winding transformer in double tier design

• Transformer for 24-pulse operation• Two double tier active parts in one transformer tank

Every converter transformer is designed for additional cooling capacity -Due to non-sinusoidal load and harmonic distortion, additional losses will occur.
