SPECIAL NEEDS AREN´T BARRIERS TO

PARTICIPATION IN STUDENT EXCHANGE

PROGRAMMES

By Meta Rojsek

WHY THEY ARE NOT BARRIERS?

Big challenge

New experience

New choices

MY SPECIAL NEEDS

DYSLEXIA - is a learning disability. People have problems with reading, writing, spelling, numbers, …

WHY I DECIDED TO GO?

Love travelling Learn new things Get to know new country, new culture, new

people Get more independent Improve English language Get knowledge about Occupation Therapy in

Netherlands

WHAT THE EXCHANGE PROGRAMME GAVE ME?

I became more independent I improved my English I got new knowledge about Occupation

therapy I saw new country and city I got to know more about Dutch couture and

language I met new people and made new friendships

MORE INDEPENDENT!

Decided to take part in Au Pair Program in USA

WHY STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS CHOOSE TO PARTICIPATE IN

STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAMMES?

Student programs are more adapted

BUT

There is still not enough information (for students, exchange coordinators about supporting disabled students)

WHAT WE CAN DO

We need to inform professors, coordinators about special needs and what is different about us

Students with experience of exchange programmes need to tell other students about their experience

We need to give a chance to everybody who wants to

participate in an exchange programme!

THANK YOU!
