Historically, church camp has been the very place where many preachers today got their start. Many influential church leaders today first realized that God loved them and thus first loved God at church camp which then led to a life of service. Many might say that camp is just a fun place for kids to go for a week out of the summer. The White Mills Christian Camp has seen exceptional growth in the summer camper numbers over the past three years. In 2009 attendance rose dramati-cally from numbers barely above 1000 to 1250. A scare about the economy, all time high gas prices and changes in some youth ministers were said to be the cause for the 2008 numbers. In 2009 many camps across the country contin-ued to decline according to one major newspaper article—but White Mills made the front page when they seemed to be “bucking the trend,” as stated in the headlines. It was during this time frame that God blessed the camp with a tremendous gift that allowed further expansion of facili-ties with a much needed new swimming pool. 2010 saw the “Grand Opening” of the new pool facility which undoubtedly

was welcomed by all. That summer more churches and more campers came bringing attendance way up to 1415. Ex-citement was evident in everyone as more improvements were made in pro-grams and at the camp facility. The White Mills Christian Camp Board set a goal of 1500 campers for the sum-mer of 2011 which would break all re-cords for the past 62 years. The camp season was a hit and when it was all said and done over 1500 students (1511 to be exact) came to White Mills to be a camper for a historic summer. After interviewing all of the staff of the White Mills Christian Camp it is very clear that no one is interested in receiving any credit for such improvements. It is clear that all involved are thankful to God and pray that He alone is glorified and that this trend is only the beginning.
