As of March, there were only 348 drive-in
movie theaters in the US, down from 443
theaters in 2000. They account for only
about 1.5% of all movie theaters in the
country. In 1980, there were over 2400.
We’re fortunate to have Hull’s in Rockbridge
County!
Hull’s Welcomes Laura Post as NEW Operations Director!
Laura was hired on Friday, March 2nd and went right to work to pull the facility,
equipment and concession stand together as well as hire staff in time for Opening
Night on Friday, March 16th. No small feat, but she was up for the task and
operations have been working smoothly ever since. When not at the Drive-In, Laura
is active in the community as Race Director for the Chessie Trail Runs set for this
October and enjoys her dog, Snickers, a Shepherd-Chow mix. Originally from
NOVA, Laura has been an area resident since 2014.
One bulb costs $1,500 and is
guaranteed for 500 hours which lasts
less than 6 months
of movie playing!
Meet Bertha - Without her, the show would
NOT go on…...
Executive Director, Lauren Summers, joins Hull’s Staff in 2018
With a background in administration, communications and event management,
Lauren is comfortable in her new role at Hull’s and hopes to bring some innovative
new ideas for marketing the theater and creating new community partnerships. A
Rockbridge County property owner since 1989, Lauren became a full-time resident
in 2015. Her spare time is spent traveling to see family, baking, gardening and
working on home improvement projects.
Sponsors are the lifeblood of the Drive -In. Thank them by supporting their businesses!
In order to remain vital in the Drive-In
industry and keep up with the changes
in movie production in Hollywood,
“Bertha” (as we lovingly call her) was
purchased by Hull’s in 2012. An era
had passed and the technology age
had set in. As with all progress, there
are both benefits as well as drawbacks.
No more reels to spool and picture
quality is greatly enhanced, but the
cost of doing business has also in-
creased as a result of these improve-
ments.
