Focus Group Questions: How important is community involvement to you? What would attract you to attend events? How do you follow the Dallas Mavs or other basketball teams? What is your perception about the NBA players and owners? How do you think it can be improved?

Results: From the responses of the people who participated in our focus group, we came to the conclusion that fans want more interaction with the players. People are also open to the idea of neighborhood events. Facebook and other forms of social media are not the first medium in which fans keep up with The Dallas Mavs. Most people use television and apps such as ESPN to get their sports news. We believe our events and marketing plan would be successful because we will provide the city of Dallas with a wide range of family community events, as well as give them the chance to interact with the Dallas Mavs players and organization.

Meet and Greet

For the meet and greet, we look to entertain the fans. It would be held at American Airlines Center. This event would be open to all Mavs fans and also give other members of the community a chance to be introduced to them. There would be a highlight presentation of the team beforehand, and then a meet and greet where people could take pictures with the players and get autographs. We would look to hold this event before the All-Star Break, possibly around the first of February. It would take place between the hours of 2p.m.-6p.m.

Children’s Hospital

For this event we look to build community and team connection. A select number of players (possibly the starting 5) will make an appearance to visit the children. The will spend the day with the kids, in an effort to boost their morale. Take pictures, play games and give autographs. The kids will also be given the chance to collaborate on a design of a shoe, which the team will wear in their home opener the next season and also a select few games down the line as a way to raise awareness for the hospital. The shoe will also be released to the public at a later date.
