How do I Show Virtually?

1. Register online BE SURE TO INCLUDE YOUR EMAIL ON YOUR REGISTRATION FORM, is asking that you display show number at the beginning and end of class video. Kathy will provide your number, email her if you have not received it. You will need to make your show number card and video it at the beginning of each class video. If you would like to use your 2020 NSHA V Permanent Number email [email protected] .

2. Please prep your horse prior to videoed class as you would for any NSHA V Show (exception – you have option to clip or not clip face, ears, legs).

3. Proper (not necessarily fancy – see Show Rules) Show attire and Tack to be worn by Rider/Handler/ Horse.

4. Find someone to video your class. ALL CLASSES SHOULD BE VIDEOED IN LANDSCAPE VIEW (Phone held sideways). Please prepare a card with your show number and make that the first shot of your video. May record from area perimeter or from center of arena or other safe riding area for Pleasure and Horsemanship Classes. Videos should be stored in Google Photo. (see previous page of how to use Google Photo and make link to email to [email protected] ).

5. Follow these directions for each class listed below (Video from “J” judge’s view as indicated for Pattern Classes). Video in LANDSCAPE VIEW to show horse/handler/rider in entire video frame. Note: The drawn description of patterns are intended for the general description of the patterns. Exhibitors should utilize the arena space to best exhibit their horses.

a. Halter Class - Video from place where judge “J” is indicated on Halter diagram. Video the entire horse and handler entering, going away from the videographer. Enter at the walk and then pick up the trot/jog in an “L” shape (see diagram page 11), stop and set up your horse (have someone walk around your horse if available), exit class at the walk.

b. Showmanship – Videographer stands at “J” indicator in Pattern. Horse/Handler enter at the walk to first cone, follow pattern, set up for Judge (another friend, if available, can walk counterclockwise slowly around horse and handler allowing the handler to “quarter” (move side to side, keeping horse and handler in frame), exit according to pattern.

c. English, Western Pleasure and Lead Line Class – Videographer stand 40 feet away. Enter at the walk, walking at least one circuit of your show area or arena, horse to be show at walk, trot or jog (depending on showing English or Western), and canter or lope if 3 gaited pleasure class. Rider must show horse in both of directions WALK/TROT/JOG Classes at the walk, trot/jog, for 3-Gaited Class shown at walk, trot/jog, and canter/lope (depending on class) for at least 30 seconds. VIDEO must be no more than 2-3 minutes in total length. End class by horse/rider lined up for Judges Inspection and back 5 steps.

g. Guidelines for Western & Classical Dressage: i. The video to be taken from behind C, in a short or large dressage arena with letters.

ii. Please do not submit video link any longer than one minute over time listed on WDAA or USEF test of choice.

iii. Video needs to show portion of the arena with letters visible, you may zoom in and out. iv. May not be a video take previously from other shows. v. Please take video in landscape mode.

6. Download Google Photo to your Phone prior to taking video (Video your Show # Card at

beginning of each class video please). a. Send each class video link via separate email (You may email video link as soon as you register

to [email protected] – Video links will not be sent to the judge’s review until payment is received payment, please submit by 8/26/2020) or you may upload directly to our YouTube NSHA V YOUTH Channel.

b. Please Label Video Link or Email subject line with rider and horse name as entered in online registration with show number, list class number (example: Rider/Handler Name/My Pretty Pony #xxx, Class # 5).

All videos should be taken with phone turned sideways. Make sure sun is behind you back. Zoom in slowly and keep the whole horse in the frame. You

should be able to see the obstacles and the path Horse is taking. In halter, turning it sideways and having the horse fill the frame and pausing on all 4

shots helps. Remember the judge can’t judge what they can’t see. In horsemanship and equitation Judge needs to see riders form. Not being able to may result in lower scores. Exhibitors should watch your videos before you

post them and if it’s hard to see in any way, you should redo it. Also make sure there is sound on for trail.

c. Judges view videos (may take up to two-three weeks to announce results, depending on number of entrants).

d. Show placings will be posted on our Facebook page @nshaRegV or click on Facebook button at www.nshav.com .

7. Judge’s commentary on suggestions for improvement for performance from each videoed class is optional for additional $10 fee. Judge’s commentary provided via email (not posted on Facebook).
