New Name,

New Regulations

If you have not already been alerted…The assessment previously referred to as the California Measurement of Academic Performance and Progress (CalMapp), California’s new statewide student assessment system has been renamed the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). The CAASPP assessment system encompasses the following required assessments:

• Smarter Balanced system of assessments for mathematics and English-Language arts

• California Standards Tests for Science in grades five, eight, and ten

• California Modified Assessments for Science in grades five, eight, and ten

• California Alternate Performance Assessments for Science in grades five, eight, and ten and for mathematics and English-language arts in grades two through eleven.

On January 15, 2014 emergency regulations concerning the CAASPP’s implementation were passed by the SBE and can be found here: http://www.cde.ca.gov/re/lr/rr/caaspp.asp. The Regulations are to become effective February 4, 2014.

Extended School Year (ESY) 2014

The Extended School Year will be held this summer at Olive Elementary School for students the IEP teams have recommended. Attend. Site: Olive Elementary Dates: June 16 - July 11, 2014 Registration forms will be sent to all students who have this recommendation in the IEP, by the end of February. Return the registration form with the IEP (including goals), and the eligibility worksheet to the Special Education Department by March 14, 2014. It is important to get these back as soon as possible to help us determine staffing for teachers and related services providers. A student should not be recommended for ESY if it will result in more restrictive placement than during the regular school year. Please ensure that the services you list in the shaded area of the registration form match the services identified in the ESY grid of IEP.

We’re shining the 212ᴼ Spotlight

212° is a message of persistent and additional action – the continual application of effort to whatever task or activity you undertake in order to achieve not only the primary objective you seek, but to reap the exponential rewards that are possible by applying one extra degree of effort.

At 211°, water is hot; at 212° it boils!

ASHLEY WHITAKER-PILON

Ashley worked diligently and thoroughly to develop procedures for the Early Intervention Assessment team. The team was able to use the information Ashley compiled to come to consensus on a complex assessment process. Thank you to Ashley, for taking the lead, and the great product and teamwork that followed! You applied 212 degrees to accomplish this.

ELIZABETH OLINYK

We are shining the 212° spotlight on Elizabeth for agreeing to host the Extended School Year program for Special Education this summer.

Thank you both for your 212° of action for students with disabilities!!
