Welcome to the celebration of our 60 years of academic excellence!

II am very happy to welcome you at the Aix-Marseille School of Management. It is part of Aix-Marseille University, the largest university in France. The AMSM is the only public institution in French higher education to hold both EQUIS and AMBA accreditations. We bind together the academic excellence of the university, a deep commitment to the values of public service and the dynamism of a business school. Our school is also recognised for the quality of its research which is backed by the CERGAM laboratory, France’s leading research unit in terms of defended doctoral theses.

TheThe AMSM community of academics and staa is inspired by a powerful school culture. All feel they are part of an institute which has richly matured thanks to 60 years of experience, teaching innovations and a constanlty renewed educational oaer. Our school has long been well-regarded in the corporate world and our 17,000 graduates form an impressive network of alumni.

TheThe School has defined its mission as bridging the gap between the university and the corporate world in order to train responsible, eecient and civic-minded young managers. A 2014 survey on our 2013 graduates shows that our mission is accomplished: 93% of our graduates are recruited on long-term contracts within 6 months following their internships or apprenticeships. Overall, their average pay increased by 3% compared to 2013.

DuringDuring their stay at the School, we work hard to raise our students and participants’ awareness of the economic and social role they will play in society, so that tomorrow they may become the ambassadors of our values: diversity, courage, integrity and commitment to public interest. Our motto, “Empowering humanistic leadership”, points to our ambition to nurture a more humane form of leadership. To materialise this commitment at AMSM, we emulate the prestigious universities who share the same vision (Harvard, Duke, McGill, MIT, the London Business School...) and on the year of our 60th anniversary we innovate by inviting students for the first timetime to sign our “Management Pledge” (see page 8). This is a moment of solemn emotion on graduation day as they reach the crowning achievement of their academic endeavours.

It is my hope that this file and this anniversary celebration will provide a clearer picture of our school and will promote creative, enriching and promising relationships.

1955: IAE founded by Pr. Pierre Tabatoni.

1969: IAE becomes an independent training and research centre within the Université de la Méditerranée.

1971: Adaptable programmes for corporate executives are launched.

1973: IAE rejoins Université Paul Cézanne, specialised in law, economics and science.

1974: Establishment of the research centre (known today as the CERGAM).

11977: IAE is nationally certified. Four new 5-year degrees are launched: audit, marketing, management of information systems, human resource management.

1988: Creation of a consortium between the IAE, the London Business School and SDA Bocconi to implement a programme for European executives.

1990: First exchange agreements are signed: with York, Dublin, Koblenz and San Diego.

1992: Agreement with ESSEC Paris for Doctorate degrees signed.

11993: Creation of the EUROMBA in collaboration with Audencia Nantes (France), EADA (Spain), HHL (Germany), Kozminski University (Poland), Maastricht University (the Netherlands).

1996: Apprenticeship programmes launched.

1999: EQUIS and EFMD accreditations obtained. A Master in general management is launched.

2000: Creation of “MBA full-time”.

2002: EQUIS reaccreditation.

2004: AMBA accreditation for MBA full-time.

2005: AMBA acc2005: AMBA accreditation for the Master programmes in Management Science.

2006: Executive MBA Programme with ParisTech Arts & Métiers, Telecom Ecole de Management and IGS in Paris. The IMMIT Programme obtains the Erasmus Mundus status with the universities of Turku (Finland) and Tilburg (the Netherlands).

2007: AMBA and EQUIS reaccreditations for MBA full-time, Executive MBA and EUROMBA.

2008: Only French public business school ranked by the Financial Times among the best management Masters and best European business schools.2009: AMBA 2009: AMBA reaccreditation for MBA full-time and Executive MBA.

2011: Creation of the Master of science in Management (MSc) programme.

2012: EQUIS reaccreditation. Aix-Marseille Université is established. The IAE is one of AMU’s 21 units (faculties, schools and institutes).

2014: AMBA reaccreditation. Development of local partnerships with AMU units (Faculty of pharmacy, Polytech’s engineering school, AMU’s polytechnic institute [IUT]...).
